Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family but doubts he can last much longer.

Publisher's Summary
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.
Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne, and now private investigator. Sort of.
Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her undercover to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at the Santa's Workshop toy store are going missing.
Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that's strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.
Will her magic save her? Or will she come up cold?

I want to live in Nocturne Falls
I have read Ms. Painter's other books set in Nocturne Falls and greatly enjoyed them. I am hoping there will be more.
The comes Jane Frost who happens to come to Nocturne Falls and adds a delightful twist to the city of Nocturne Falls. Although this seems to stand as a new series it looks as if it will be in Nocturne Falls and hopefully will combine in characters from the first series. It did some this time.
Will definitely get the next book and hope Ms. Painter contiues with both of the Nocturne Falls series.

Princess Turned PI!
I loved the original Nocturne Falls series so much, I just had to listen to the new series. It's everything you come to expect from Kristen Painter! A well written story that's clean, funny, full of suspense, and of course a cat!
Kristen takes us on another visit to Nocturne Falls for an adventure with Jayne Frost, the Winter princess, who goes undercover to investigate why employees are quitting and disappearing from Santa's Workshop.
When Jayne arrives in Nocturne Falls, we are introduced to new characters, while running into a few old friends. In addition, to these new characters, we get to see a different side of Nocturne Fall; a slightly darker side. With each new story, Kristen expertly develops both the characters and town to the point they appear real and tangible. The stories are so well written, you can easily visualize each scene, learn something new about the characters and town, and get lost in a good story.
I really enjoyed listening to this book, and will be on the lookout for future stories; however, it's definitely different from the PNR Nocturne Falls stories we are used to listening too. This is truly a detective story, with no romantic HEA's, and is told from Jayne's POV. We follow Jayne as she secretly investigates the missing employees, meets new friends, goes on dates, and solves the case.
While I missed B.J. Harrison narrations, this is a new series so it makes sense to go with a different narrator and Hollis McCarthy did a great job! While this is the first audiobook I've listened to by her, she did an awesome job on the voices and each main character had their own voice and was easily identified.
Besides getting used to the new narrator, and not having the romantic HEA, this was a great mystery and evil villain.
If you are a fan of the Nocturne Falls series, this story is a great addition to your collection

Yelping yetis! A great new series!
Where does Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I loved this book. Lighthearted and fun, just like all of the Nocturne Falls books.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jayne was my favorite character. She's strong, snarky, and fun... the perfect heroine for this book.
What about Hollis McCarthy’s performance did you like?
I hadn't heard Hollis McCarthy narrate any other audiobooks, but she nailed this one. Each character had his or her own voice and the tone of the scenes came across just right.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed out loud quite a few times.
Any additional comments?
A Nocturne Falls spinoff series? One that blends cozy mystery, year round Christmas, and Halloween 365 days a year? Yes please, sign me up!
Jayne Frost, the daughter of Jack Frost and the niece of Kris Kringle, is the Winter Princess and a pretty big deal in the North Pole. Not that it matters to her, she'd rather be happy. She's part of the family business, and her family needs her at the Nocturne Falls Santa's Workshop flagship store. It seems that elves are leaving with no notice, never to be seen again, and the higher ups (ie: The Big Guy in the Red Suit) are starting to notice. Jayne needs to go undercover and try to solve the mysteries surrounding the disappearances. What she doesn't count on is running into her old flame Cooper, a summer elf, or meeting sexy Roma vampire Greyson. Yelping yetis... what's a girl have to do to find her happiness and save the family business?

Frosty Elves and Vampires
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is my most favorite audiobook so far. I absolutely LOVED the narrator. And omg, Greyson's accent is to die for. I am so torn between him and Cooper. But I think I am team Greyson. The story is really great. I had already read the book. But listening to it gave it an even more richness.
What did you like best about this story?
I love how we get to visit the town of Nocturne Falls. If you haven't read any of that series, don't worry, this can be read or listened to without it. But I whole heartedly recommend it. This series is like a cozy mystery. And mystery it was. It kept me guessing until the end. There aren't any cliff hangers but I really wish I knew who Jayne decides to choose. Cooper or Greyson. While there is some dating, the story is mainly about solving the mystery of why all the employees have left the store in Nocturne Falls. Did they all just quit because the boss is so difficult to work for? Or did someone make them disappear. At times I was on the edge of my seat.
Which scene was your favorite?
There are so many great scenes in this story. I really liked when Greyson had Jane balancing on the railing and took off with her.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Ooh, I have to say, I really wish Kristen would stop writing about all the delicious food. Especially the raspberry truffles. I had a craving I couldn't fix. I had to eat chocolate in the middle of the night. At one point, I stopped off at McDonald's on my way to work and was late. Lol

Not quite as good as the original series
i missed the old, familiar characters and the elf thing was a little weird. Vampires and Werewolves are a bit more interesting then Summer Elves an Winter Elves, at least to me. I also dont like Grayson, the Irish Roma-Vampire and Rake. His character is too busy.
i will probably revisit this at Christmas time, rather then Halloween.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Her voice inflection is spot on. She brings the characters to life and stays true to each one.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes. this is a great book and part of a great series
What other book might you compare Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case to and why?
I might compare some of Molly Harper's Half Moon Hollow books to this book and this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When she saved Spider. He became her cat.

Too simple of a story.
The story is far too predictable, the characters all so nice and squeaky clean it becomes annoying. If you're looking for a book for your 13-14 year old daughter, this is fine.

Jayne is smart, funny, and doesn't get into a lot of the self doubt that other heroines go through. The pace was good and the overall book was entertaining. A great start to hopefully a long series. Nocturne falls sounds like home.

A Fab Start to this Cosy Paranormal Mystery Series
Kristen Painter is fast becoming a favourite author of mine and I can't wait to read more of her books; I love her writing style and find her books very easy to read.
I love all the characters that Ms Painter has created for her fictional town of Nocturne Falls and I love that this new series is set there too. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of the plot in this book; its twists and turns, the many clues and red herrings that were revealed and although, I had guessed the big secret before it was revealed, I still found myself gripped with the story, keen to keep reading.
I downloaded the Audible version of this book and was impressed with Hollis McCarthy's performance; the pace of her narration was just right and I enjoyed her slight vocal variances for the dialogue of the different characters too.
There is absolutely no offensive content within these pages - language, violence or sex - and so I can recommend it to lovers of charming, paranormal mystery tales who enjoy a sprinkling of humour and a bit of romance with a happy ever after ending.

OK but it's NOT Nocturne Falls
What did you like best about Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case? What did you like least?
The setting in Nocturne Falls was the best thing. The worst thing was that there was no real involvement at all from any of the characters that we've come to know and love. I know it's a new series but why set it in NF if you're not going to include anyone we know? (except as the most casual passing reference)
What three words best describe Hollis McCarthy’s voice?
The narrator was OK - her voice is pleasant but her dialect/accent switching quite patchy so that our heroine ended up with an Irish accent if she was speaking to Greyson and so on. Also a lot of the characters seemed .. for no particular reason sound like someone from NY or New Jersey - which is a bit strange as NF is in Georgia and the heroine is from the north pole? As a Brit I found it particularly confusing.
Could you see Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
No I really can't
Any additional comments?
I wouldn't listen to any more of this series although I may read the next book before making a final decision. I REALLY want the next Nocturne Falls (with B.J narrating) to be available now!

Another good one
Kristen Painter manages to create an interesting world that is populated by strange but believable characters. This first in the series spin-off from the Nocturn Falls series is no exception.
Good performance by Hollis McCarthy.

This book takes places in Nocturne Falls but is different from the books in the Nocturne Falls series. It is the beginning of a series that stars Jayne Frost, Winter Elf, Winter Princess and Santa Claus’ niece. She is sent to the family store in Nocturne Falls to investigate members of staff that have gone missing in unusual circumstances. It has romance but is more of a mystery.
This book is written to the same high standard as the Main Nocturne Falls book. It is well written and fun while at the same time being a good mystery.
It’s a good solid supernatural, cozy mystery.

Fun fantasy
Any additional comments?
When Jayne’s father, Jack frost, sends her on a secret mission Jayne is thrilled to be outside the North Pole. She sees the job as a chance to improve her skills and her worth but the job gives her more than she bargains for. When she learns to care for the inhabitants of the strange town of Nocturne falls, she knows exactly what she could lose when she eventually reveals her true identity.
I was immediately drawn by the cover of this book and I’m glad I was. Jayne’s character is sweet and funny and the book sits between the fantasy, mystery, and fairy tale genres perfectly. Jayne made me laugh and the balance of characters worked well together. I also appreciated the mixture of fantasy and modern day technology and the Nocturne Falls setting was a good touch of both.

Loved it!
Would you consider the audio edition of Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version but thoroughly enjoyed the audio version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Juniper - the character just appeals to me
Any additional comments?
I Enjoyed this one so much I went on to listen to the other Nocturne Falls books (they're OK-ish, but romances don't interest me as much as mysteries) and bought the second Jayne Frost book as soon as I saw the audio version was available

fantasy meets the corporate world
Employees at a Santa retail store are going missing. Jack Frost sends his daughter under cover to investigate.
This is bright and breezy. So not for anyone looking for high drama.
