Story
Late summer 1933. After a quarrel with too-plucky-for-her-own-good amateur sleuth Kitty Underhay, dashing ex-army captain Matthew Bryant is nursing his wounds, and a tumbler of brandy, when there’s a heavy knock at the door and he finds himself arrested for murder. The body of aspiring actress Pearl Bright has been found, strangled with one of Matt’s own bootlaces, and the evidence seems to be stacked against him. The local constabulary might have locked Matt up, but before they can throw away the key, Kitty hears the news and hies to his aid, determined to prove his innocence.

Publisher's Summary
The delightful new installment of the beloved and New York Times best-selling Miss Julia series
When Miss Julia's regular doctor goes on vacation with his wife, leaving a replacement in his stead, Miss Julia is immediately concerned. Never one to miss an opportunity to entertain - or size up - a newcomer, she invites the charming Dr. Don Crawford, and his painfully shy wife, Lauren, to dinner. While Miss Julia and Sam both note Lauren's obvious lack of social skills, it's her friends Hazel Marie and Binkie that pick up on some of Dr. Crawford's less palatable qualities.
Meanwhile, Lloyd has gotten his first car, and LuAnne, fresh off her divorce, has started a job at the local funeral home and is in urgent need of an occupation-appropriate makeover - Miss Julia has enough on her plate. Yet there is just something she can't place about the Crawfords, and she won't rest until she gets to the bottom of it.
As always, hijinks ensue as Ann B. Ross delivers this delightful and entertaining installment, Miss Julia Takes the Wheel, in her best-selling Miss Julia series.

Oh Miss Julia
I discovered these books a little over a year ago and read the entire series within a couple months. They are clever, humorous, and smart. I appreciate that the plot normally involves a mystery that is believable and relatable. It's nice to know that murder isn't always needed for a good cozy mystery.
I love Miss Julia and Cynthia Darlow's narration of the beloved character so much that Ive become obsessed with finding books where the protagonist is a feisty geriatric slueth.
This latest installment, however, was one of my least favorites, but, still better than most of the other books I've read this year. I wish more of the townspeople had been featured in this book. They are so well developed and fun to read about.
Lastly, I felt like the ending was rushed and not well thought out. Everything was "sort of" wrapped up but felt the story was incomplete.

Miss Julia not up to her usual fun loving self
The story was very slow through most of the book. Miss Julia finally came to life at the end, when she helped Lloyd rescue a friend from a drug house. I had looked forward to hearing another Miss Julia book, and I was disappointed.
