Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

After the War of the Gods, the demons were cast out and fell to the world. Mankind was nearly eradicated by the seemingly unstoppable beasts until the gods sent the great hero, Ramrowan, to save them. He united the tribes, gave them magic, and drove the demons into the sea. Ever since, the land has belonged to man, and the oceans have remained an uncrossable hell, leaving the continent of Lok isolated.

Story
From the pulpy pages of Black Mask Magazine in the 1920s and '30s, through the film noir era of the 1940s, to today, noir fiction has lured many a reader and movie-goer away from the light and into the dark underbelly of society. Names such as Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and James M. Cain; titles like The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, The Postman Always Rings Twice...these have inhabited our collective consciousness for decades. Humanity, it seems, loves the dark. And within the dark, one figure stands out: that of the femme fatale.

Publisher's Summary
The no-holds-barred final entry in the Monster Hunter Memoirs series from New York Times best-selling authors Larry Correia and John Ringo.
"This is New Orleans." That mantra had rung in Chad Gadenier's ears since his first day working in the Big Easy. Everything was different in New Orleans. The food. The climate. The monsters. Even the shadowy and reprehensible MCB was different. But that's just the beginning.
The real reason New Orleans is so different is a larval Great Old One growing day by day in power and just about ready to pop. If Chad can't convince "the powers that be" to get involved, not only New Orleans, but the entire world, is going to fall under the power of the nastiest of nasties.
Now on the outs with the US government and in exile from his usual job of saving the world, Chad must rally the forces of light against the coming darkness. The problem is one guy with a sword and a sub-gun isn't going to solve this one.
Fortunately, Chad's made a few friends over the years - and the Fey hate Old Ones as much as God's people, and they're not about to give up this world without a fight.
If the saints don't come marching in on this one...there won't be a final battle; there will be a final massacre. Now, where'd he put that number for the ditzy Fey princess?

YES....!
If you liked any of the other HMI story arcs, you will DEFINITELY like this one, too. This is easily the best of the series and Chad Gadenier is and may always be my favorite character from the series. I was rapt with attention at listening to these (on my headphones and often busting out laughing to neighbor's amusement). The only thing I didn't like about this series was that it had to come to an end... But what a very satisfying end it was. You feel like if you were in this universe you and Chad would be best friends. Oliver Wyman brought Chad Gadenier to life and to him and, of course, Larry Correia and John Ringo, I say thank you for the adventure.

Pleasantly Surprised
I've listened to all the Monster Hunter books, including all those in the Memoirs vein. The first two Memoirs books didn't impress. I found the stories mediocre, the monsters unimaginative (giant frogs, giant crocodiles, and giant shrimp, among other giant animals (yawn)), and, frankly, the protagonist, Chadwick Gardenier, to be hard to like. Saints, though, was a cut above the rest. I believe you need to read/listen to the first two Memoirs books to fully appreciate the third (and, really, you should read/listen to *all* the Monster Hunter books to really, fully appreciate it). I don't know what caused the improvement, but it was noticeable. Pacing was more deliberate and character development more fleshed out., but it still packed in plenty of action. One gripe I had is that one whole chapter from this book was used in the collection of short stories compiled in The Monster Hunter Files book, which I thought was rather lazy. In any case, while I consider the Memoirs books to -- as a whole -- be relatively inferior to the main MHI books written solely by Larry Correia, I found this last Memoirs book to be superior to some specific core MHI books (most notably the last one, which I had to power through just to finish). It will be interesting to see if the Memoirs books are incorporated as canon into the MHI universe going forward, assuming there are more MHI books in the offing by Correia. If there are, I sure hope he writes a better one than his last full novel. I've loved hearing the exploits of the characters of the MHI universe -- Owen, Earl, Milo, Franks, Julie, Chad, etc. -- and have looked forward to every new installment, but the last (Monster Hunter Siege) is making me wonder if the magic is over and this series is played out. I sincerely hope it is not. BTW, as always, I found Oliver Wyman's various characters' voices to greatly add to the story and my enjoyment of it.

RIP Chad
This book did a great job of linking MHI's history with the present day hunters and having Earl finish this last memoir was absolutely the way it needed to end. I will be devastated if this is the last we hear of MHI, there are still so many stories to tell: the first year's of MHI, the years spent overseas, little Miss Gardenier's story even. Please, please, please keep writing these books!

Great part of the series, but nothing more.
Is it magnificent? No, but, it is good for what this series offers. It's a great, detailed story about Chad Gadenier's history as a monster hunter. As such, it really is worth reading for anyone invested in this series. Is it great as a stand alone novel? Probably not so much. It's still really well written, it still is quite dependent on being part of the bigger Monster Hunter series.

SO Good!
I don’t even know where to start! Amazing story, excellent characterization, astonishing finale... there’s nothing about this mini-series that sucks. Additionally, the left enough “open” material to easily fill a fourth installment... maybe even a fifth. I love the backstories/development of some of the more famous and respected hunters you only know from the main story line. All in all, Monster Hunter Memoirs is, by far, my favorite stories of the Monster Hunter International saga.

Not my favourite of the series
Given the average rating so far, my opinion is an outlier, but here we go anyway.
I did like the previous two instalments in this new Monster Hunter series. The series as a whole brings an interesting perspective on the earlier days of monster hunting.
My problem with this book doesn’t lie there. Rather, what really annoyed me was that this books is padded with a lot of unnecessary philosophising on the benefits of arming everybody and then letting people shoot it out to figure out whose way of life is the best. I’m not really a pacifist, but this is way over the top. I know Correia is a gun nut in a way, but I’d much rather have him post his rants in a blog or something, rather than muddle up an otherwise perfectly good story.
So that’s why I’m only giving it three stars and that’s bit generous given my level of annoyance. Of course, not everybody will be bothered by this and the story otherwise is fairly decent and a good followup to the previous two books. Your mileage may vary.

Best of the Trilogy
This third installment of the Memoirs is the best of the three, but still not as good as the mainline MHI books.
You've go to remember that these are memoirs, an autobiography by the hunter Chad Gadenier, who is as arrogant as they come. If you take what he writes with a grain of salt and recognize that he embellishes every account to make himself look better, then the series is a lot more fun. The author never really tells the reader to do this, until perhaps the very end of this third book, so we are left reading a series of unrelated adventures about a character who is hard to like and and even harder to identify with. I wish they'd done a better job of having current MHI characters remind us occasionally that we are reading the journal of a dead hunter - the times when they did that the book was at its strongest. In fact, the best part of the entire trilogy is at the end of this book when another character (don't want to spoil anything) summarizes some of Chad's actions. It was moving and powerful - it raised the level of the entire series. The end pulled the book up an entire star for me.
I like the idea of this series more than the execution. I feel like John Ringo finally got into the groove in the second half of the third installment. I'd be up for another collaboration between these two under the assumption that they'd keep getting better since each book in this one was better than the previous.
Oliver Wyman is, as usual, amazing.

hope this collaboration continues...
I'm not normally a fan of any author writing about a world created by another. This collaboration is truly the exception. Together Larry Correia and John Ringo have created a hero that belongs with MHI. And Oliver Wyman continues to narrate these stories with incredible skill. Well done gentleman, looking forward to many more books.

Epically brilliant!
This is hard-core and leaves you with some serious feelings, but it is seriously awesome, well written and well read. Characterisation is fantastic, build up and sequencing is fantastic, interaction with the main monster hunting series is fantastic, an all-round fantastic finish to a fantastic trilogy! It is very rare that I can’t think of a butt, but I can’t find one for this book.. Genuinely great. These three books are proper heroes fighting bad stuff, which is exactly what I liked about monster hunter International in the first place. Please can the main series get back to this level of book.

Great reader and easy to listen to.
I'm loving all the Monster Hunter series. They are all extremely different but offer new perspectives on characters. The books appear to wrap into each other at times which I'm really enjoying.

Nice wrap up to the series
if you likes the first 2 book in the series definitely grab this one to finish off the trilogy.
it's a nice little wrap up that explains and ties up afew loose ends left from the last book and the monster hunter world.
it definitely isn't as action packed as the last 2 books but Chad isn't meant to be all about brute force, this book really aims to show of his smarts and ingenuity more than his brute force.
I really enjoyed the character building Chad had in this book, and having a main character in this universe that isn't completely reliant on big guns and strength, that actually shows some planing and research is a great change.
if love the monster hunter universe like I do, do yourself a favour and grab this book.

Another great title in the Momster Hunter series
A quality and heart felt memoir about Chad and his explotes, great writing and reading of said book. This ever expanding universe is great. Larry Correia has knocked it out of the park with plenty of detail and an amazing setting. Can't wait for the next one
