Story
The Absorbent Mind was Maria Montessori's most in-depth work on her educational theory, based on decades of scientific observation of children. Her view on children and their absorbent minds was a landmark departure from the educational model at the time. This book helped start a revolution in education. Since this book first appeared there have been both cognitive and neurological studies that have confirmed what Maria Montessori knew decades ago.

Story
In the late 19th century, a revolutionary education system was proposed for children from when they were toddlers until when they are 12 years old. The entire tenet of this system was based upon promoting education in an environment where the little ones could function independently. Maria Montessori, a physicist by profession, laid the foundation for the Montessori method of education in 1897 and began to operate her school in 1907 from her apartment.

Not so great :-(
I guess there is a downside to reading several parenting books, one starts to get familiar with the theories and it becomes easy to compare the quality of the content. I finished this book because I have troubles quiting, but it was hard not to frown at its lack of engagement, vague descriptions of methods, theories and strategies. It also repeats itself often with the exact same descriptions. This could be a good book to quickly review previous knowledge but not to acquire and understand it in a deep way or make more connections. Dissapointed that I didn't find anything revealing. Other books under the same topic do give some unique tips, facts or even anecdotes.

Very superficial and vague
In principle it goes along the lines of Montessori but it deviates a lot. Not really true to principles and even when the author tries to explain what’s the problem and what’s the solution it’s so vague and doesn’t really get the message to the point.
Also the structure of very lose and doesn’t flow together. If you are new to Montessori definitely not the book for you. If you’ve read some books before then I’m sure there’s some value there but there are better ones out there.

Poor
I was not able to get through the whole book. The entire first 45 minutes felt as though they were just tooting their own horn talking about all the great people have gone through Montessori. I couldn’t even get the gist of what I actually meant. I do not recommend this book. I strongly recommend something by Magda Gerber or Janet Lansberry. The RE method is very clear and concise and very helpful for discipline and talking to your toddler

Hard to listen slowly
I had to speed up the narration because the speaker presents this as if we are toddlers and we are new to all the words she is using. Being critical, her voice is just robotic and awful. The storyline was hodge podge and not in a great order but I really liked the message as a reminder for parenting techniques.

Straightforward
I have read a few parenting books. These tips aren’t groundbreaking by any means, but I do appreciate how they are presented in a concise manner. There is a little more history about Montessori than I needed. I am on board with the Montessori method and don’t need to be convinced about why it works, but you can skip those chapters if you’re like me.

Not the best resoure
There are a lot of things in this book, that don’t add up. But what I disliked the most is that they talk about montessori education, and then turn around and suggest rewards and illogical consequences which is fundamentally against the whole Montessori principal. There were a lot of good ideas in there too, but all together just very confusing and should have been better researched in my opinion. There are better books out there in the subject. Jane Nelson’s Positive discipline for one.
