The Confederation consists of the seven oldest races in known space. They control a vast section of the galaxy. All races in that part of the galaxy are subjects of the Confederation and forced to obey the Confederation’s laws. The Human Empire is well aware of the Confederation and has been careful not to intrude upon Confederation space. However, now the Confederation has decided the Human Empire has grown too large and needs to be brought under control of the seven races.

Story
The Trellixian Empire was constantly expanding, seeking new worlds for its ever-increasing population. If worlds were discovered with existing sentient populations, they were cleansed to make room for colonization. Hundreds of budding civilizations had been eliminated by Trellixian battle fleets. On Earth, years in the past, a scout ship fleeing from the Trellixians crashed. Scientists investigating the wreckage discovered what the Trellixians had done to the world the scout ship escaped from. They also discovered it was only a matter of time before the Trellixians reached Earth.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Publisher's Summary
The starship New Horizon is Earth's first attempt at an FTL capable spaceship. But others don't want the mission to succeed. The mission goes suddenly and horribly wrong with the possibility of inadvertently leading the Hocklyns to Earth decades in advance of their estimated arrival time. Can the cadets on the New Horizon stop the deadly plot before it's too late?
The Federation survivors on Ceres have built a new warship. It's the most powerful ship they have ever built. Its mission is simple. Return to the old Federation worlds, search for survivors, and find out how far the Hocklyn Slave Empire has spread. The whole key to their mission is secrecy, but the disastrous events on the New Horizon may jeopardize everything.

Enjoyed the the take this took in this verse.
Any additional comments?
Well after reading the second book that was very face paced (which i personally prefer) this book goes back in time as we just start to get out into the universe. i enjoyed it, it was a bit slow for me, but i stuck with it and I'm now on to the next book in the series.

Time to get out of Dodge!
The saga continues after the Federation took a sound beating from the Hocklyns and the AI Masters. What survivors remained gathered together, resupplied and headed for Earth. It wasn’t that easy as Hocklyn war ships surrounded the home planet and had landed their version of Marines to root out and destroy all survivors. Once reaching Earth’s system our refugees, whom I’ll continue to refer to as the Federation, numbering some thirty thousand settled on and within large asteroids to remain hidden. Earth was not prepared for what the Federation had to offer, and wouldn’t be for roughly one hundred years. During this time the Federation secretly helped Earth increase their knowledge and expand their technology so that by the end of that period the Federation could reveal themselves. Once that was done the real work began. Among the many goals were: increase the population, educate and train the population, raise the overall technology level, build defenses, weapons, weapons platforms, and space ships; many, many space ships. Prepare for the Hocklyns to eventually discover Earth!

Like the series but, a little like a tooth ache.
Would you listen to Moon Wreck: Fleet Academy again? Why?
No. The story was good but, it was not exceptional.
Would you be willing to try another book from Raymond L. Weil? Why or why not?
Yes. My issue is not with the author but, the reader. The pernouncation of some words are grating, they take me out of the story. For example, the star Tau Ceti should be pernounced with a soft "C", not a hard "CC" as the reader does in the audible rendition. It is kind of like touching a sore tooth with your toung. I am surprised that Audible let this foopa slip bye... Not up to their usual high standard. I hope the other books in this series don't have this kind of short coming.
Would you be willing to try another one of Liam Owen’s performances?
See note above. I hope he does better.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, too long for 1 sitting.
Any additional comments?
Nope.

If I hear extremely one more time I will scream
The plot line is good and the narration is good BUT the authors vocabulary is at best high school level. He uses the world extremely so many time I think he does not know what it really means. There are several other words that he uses repeatedly. I think someone should tell the author that there is such a thing as a thesaurus. Additionally this story is essentially a composit of several other space civilization stories. Such as battle star Galactica. I have listened to two of the books and that is it for me.

Badly edited interesting story
"Eyes opened wide", "sparks came out of the consol", "blue white vortex" etc are repetitive phrases that rapidly grate and give a childish feel to the writing. In general the people are poorly described and don't feel real. When there is no action this weak character description makes the story boring (not helped by flat narration).
These clear faults are compensated by a good story and strong long term narrative. So I do keep buying the next (rather short) "book" in the series.
