Story
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce - and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So, we fight, to defend Earth and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. “In wartime,” Winston Churchill wrote, “truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.” For Britain’s counterintelligence operations, this meant finding the unlikeliest agent imaginable - a history professor named Alfred Vicary, handpicked by Churchill himself to expose a highly dangerous, but unknown, traitor. The Nazis, however, have also chosen an unlikely agent.

Publisher's Summary
The Moonraker project has a millionaire backer, the war hero Sir Hugo Drax - a man who, it seems, cheats at cards. With a ballistic rocket at stake, Sir Hugo's exposure could threaten Britain's latest defense system, so James Bond is asked to investigate. Moving from London's most exclusive gambling club to a missile silo on the Channel coast, 007 and his Special Branch assistant, Gala Brand, discover there's more to Drax than meets the eye.
This audiobook includes an exclusive bonus interview with Bill Nighy.

Featured Article: The Definitive Guide to James Bond’s Gadgets, Gear, and Gizmos
Celebrated super spy James Bond is as well known for his gadgets as he is for his libido, his shaken martinis, and his fancy cars. While the Bond novels mention various widgets, the translation to film gave the special effects crew a lot more to work with. As a result, the clever tools and tricked-out weapons Bond uses on screen are perhaps even more impressive—and outlandish—than those featured in the books.

A first class adventure
Anyone familiar with the Roger Moore film will be pleasantly surprised with this taught adventure, which has little to do with the 1955 novel. Bill Nighy enlivens Fleming's third Bond novel with a mix of humor and sentiment adds humanity to 007.

Great book, and great reading.
This is the first bond book I've read. The amount of detail that author goes into for every scene is exceptional. Bill Nighy did a great job reading the book. Each character was unique.

Amazing
Having grown up on the Bond movies, I decided that I wanted to read the books. I listened to the first two, read by Simon Vance, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I love Simon Vance as a narrator, and he fit the Bond novels extremely well.
As much as I have always enjoyed Bill Nighy as an actor, I was not enthused by the idea of listening to him read a Bond novel. I was accustomed to hearing Vance. But Nighy is an incredible narrator. His voice changes for different characters are perfect. I’ll have to try to listen to more things that he has read.
As to the book itself, it’s wonderful. As a lifelong Bond fan, Moonraker is easily my least favorite film. It’s ill-advised foray into science fiction is ridiculous. But the novel is wonderful, with a very tight plot.
I enjoyed this a great deal.

Incredible book and performance
Bill Nighy was absolutely incredible in his interpretation of the characters. I've listened to these books in order so far, and with this being only the third book, there's still much to come. That being said, in my opinion, Nighy's performance on this book has been the best so far. I must also say that this book (and the previous two books) surprised me from a literary standpoint. I'm sure that like many children of the 80's, I knew the movies first; and for those alone I've been a Bond fanboy from the first moment. The books, on the other hand, have been a foregone conclusion in my mind; an assumption, or more accurately a misconception...until now. These first three books have in no uncertain terms blown my mind and completely opened my eyes to the brilliant author and amazing talent that was Ian Fleming. Of course one has to correct a little for the period during which these books were written in terms of certain language, but even so I have so much more respect and understanding now for the character of James Bond, as well as for the man who created him. If there's another level above a fanboy, consider me having reached it. I'd also love to shake Nighy's hand and buy him a properly shaken martini as a "thank you" for bringing this book to life.

So much better than the movie
Long time fan of the Bond movies, but the movie that shares the name pales compared to the novel.
