Story
Free-spirited and easygoing Taylor Vandenberg left her hometown of Faircombe, Tennessee, as soon as she could, and in the twenty-five years since, she has rarely looked back. She wouldn't change anything about how her life has turned out—having traveled to nearly every country, never staying anywhere long enough to feel stifled. Brooke Watson has known Taylor for her entire life, and lifelong knowledge means that Brooke knows she's trouble: irresponsible, takes nothing seriously, and irritatingly attractive.

Sure, lesbians love to bring a U-Haul on the second date. But what happens when the U-Haul crashes? For Amelia Stone, it's a literal question as much as a figurative one. Public Relations expert Emery Bates has exactly one problem she's willing to admit, and it's that she doesn't have a girlfriend to take as her date to a wedding. Not because she needs a girlfriend, but because she needs an easier way to come out to college friends she hasn't seen in five years. Her job is about controlling the narrative, and as she sees it, there's no reason why that can't extend to her personal life. When her ends up single a few weeks before the wedding, Emery realizes inviting Jordan along and faking romance for a week in Hawaii could be perfect for both of them.

When Remy's grandmother dies, it means leaving her life in San Francisco and returning to a town she swore she'd never revisit, forced to confront a world she'd worked hard to put behind her over the last twelve years. She's not expecting that the first girl to ever steal her heart, the pretty, popular Fallon Lewis, is still around, and in a town this small, their paths continue to cross, much to Remy's dismay. It's hard enough seeing her first love, but it's exponentially more difficult when she can barely stand to look at the woman.

Publisher's Summary
Moving back to her hometown was never at the top of Joy Henderson's to-do list. With a successful career in San Francisco and plenty of opportunity for casual relationships, the last thing Joy wants is to return to the small town she'd planned her whole life to escape. But family obligations pull her back home, and it isn't long before Joy runs into someone she's always dreamed of seeing again - the first girl she ever imagined kissing. Kelsey West.
Olympic dreams are a thing of the past for Kelsey. Now an out-of-work swim coach recovering from a bad relationship, she's back home only long enough to get her life together. When she learns that Joy Henderson, the high-school crush she never forgot, is also back in town, she can't help but wonder if there's a chance to rewrite the past.
Time has changed their hometown. Time has changed Kelsey and Joy. But when it comes to two women who have never trusted love - has time changed them enough?

Not my jam..
I gave high rating to be fair. Lori gave excellent performance as per usual & the book is well written also as per usual for Clevenger. But it’s not my cup of tea.
Most books create the angsty moments just for the sake of it to bring about the inevitable reunion & HEA. This story is just straight up sad from the jump right to the very end until things are finally resolved. And when I say sad I mean super heavy emotional issues & situations that get me waaaaay too deep into my feels...but in a not so great way. It’s just a very heavy depressing story without nearly enough highs to at least balance out all the lows. Well written heartfelt story that just isn’t what I like listening to for 10+ hrs. Too depressing for my tastes, sorry to say. It’ll likely strike some chords for someone out there though.
I also feel like this one is prob based at least somewhat on a true story for the author & I imagine was a cathartic writing for them. Good on them for achieving that, truly. If it is a realistic story I genuinely hope things turned out well for all involved <3

Diversity for the win
Thank you for continuing to acknowledge that there are more than just blonde hair and blue eyed lesbians. I love being able to have a whole story about someone that looks like me. Obviously it must be a monumental task for most of these lgbt authors to write anything that resembles an ACTUAL world view, so bravo to you!!
