Story
The United Nations of Earth sent out the Forerunner ships to explore and colonize the four most promising star systems within 50 light-years of Earth. Forerunner One left Earth under the command of Captain Clayton Cross, heading for Trappist-1. After a ninety year journey to reach it, the crew encountered not only a habitable world, but alien life already inhabiting it, and dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. The revelation of who these aliens are and what they want proves more terrifying than promising, and Captain Cross is forced to make tough decisions that will affect not only his crew, but the fate of the entire human race.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

AD 2150: Chris Randall just lost his job as a bodyguard. That night, after picking up his wife, Bree, from her shift at a local casino, he breaks the bad news. Moments later, thunder cracks the sky, but there’s no lightning. Flaming debris rain across the valley, and a dark mass goes sailing out of the clouds, headed straight for LA. As a sci-fi author with a hit TV show, I have a few ideas about what alien invaders are supposed to look like. In my stories, they’re technologically advanced monsters, with tentacles, and no faces. Turns out I was right about the technology. And about how angry they’d be. But the way they look is more terrifying than even I could have imagined. They look exactly like us. Because they are us.

Another awesome title from Scott Bartlett!
I picked this one up recently because of Scott's work on the Ixan series and how blown away I was by it. I will admit to being a bit leery of a new narrator because I really loved Mark Boyett but Scott Aiello has done a great job with the narration of this story!
The story is very well done and Scott's attention to detail never fails to impress. The characters are well developed and their interactions seem smooth and believable.
If you haven't listened to any of Scott's work, I can highly recommend it, and if you are already a fan, you won't be disappointed.

I was disappointed
I expected more from this than I got. It was hard to finish and I am an avid fan of science fiction and audio books of all types. It seemed to me that the writer was just not familiar enough with his topic to make the story believable. The main character had completed one year at the USAF Academy in Colorado. I have been there many times so this would make the main character about 19 or 20 years old. His best friend is an idiot and would have died off early on in any real conflict. Personally, I might have killed him myself or left him behind after he continuously put the mission in jeopardy. I just couldn't connect with a hero running around with this idiot and his high school principal trying to save humanity. It just doesn't work that way.
I found the performance not serious enough for the magnitude of the story. I think a different narrator may have helped a little but, again, the content just didn't have enough depth to it for me. I wish it did because I listen to book after book as I drive around the state. A good thriller helps to make the drive so much easier. With this one, I couldn't wait to pull in somewhere to put the book on hold.

Get ready for the Invasion. It's a hell of a ride.
This invasion novel plays on the traditional tropes and inserts much needed humor throughout the book to create a great experience in this genre. The building pace of this novel is really brought to life with Scott Aiello's masterful performance. He deftly creates the voices and personalities of the characters as they grow, devolve and amble through the adventure.
Treat yourself to this wonderful work.

Unexpected
Mother Ship surprised me. I was expecting an "Independence Day' type experience, but this isn't your typical alien invasion and much of it plays out much more like a zombie-esque/ survival story with a healthy dose of conspiracy thrown in. Solid cast of characters, though at times I found the best friend insanely irritating (which I think is exactly how we are meant to feel about him). Solid, well-paced story, that kept me engaged from start to finish. Scott Aiello does a great job with the narration. I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Above average alien invasion story
I thoroughly enjoyed how Max’s story evolved from start to finish. Some of the characters were a little 2D but that didn’t spoil the story too much. There were parts that I found predictable but I think that it could be that I have read a lot of invasion stories.
On the whole the book was enjoyable and am glad that I have listened to it. If you like a good story that is not heavy on science, read it with pleasure. I can’t wait for the next installment as the main characters have been established and begin the next phase of their journey.

A great invasion/survival story
I really enjoyed this tale of alien invasion, zombies, and a boy with hidden talents.
Aliens have visited us before and we knew they would be back, a secret department is created to help fight back when that day comes but they arrived before we were ready.
This book has taken themes from around sf and weaved them into a compelling tale of survival, ruthless government agents and friendship against the odds.

seriously?
in what universe does a country boy watch somebody beating his dad's dead body with a rake and not go grab an AR and take this douchebag out. I don't know where this Rider comes from but everywhere the country I've ever been man these people are armed and capable of dealing with this. they don't cry on the couch will somebody beat their father's body to a bloody pulp. this is horrible. if it keeps going like this the Stars will drop usually I like bartlet but this sucks.
the narrator's characters are not that believable. the accents are wrong, and Bartlet clearly has had no time in the country. at the end if the day... eh, no I have to pass on this.
