Publisher's Summary

It's the last race of the season, the wheels are smoking, and the temperature is rising at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Alexandra Barnaby is NASCAR-driver Sam Hooker's race-day spotter, his eye-in-the-sky, telling him when to pass and when to let off the gas.

From her vantage point high above the grandstand, she's also seeing goings-on in the infield that will change her life: events that will lead to a stolen racecar hauler, a kidnapped Saint Bernard, a bizarre murder, some restless nights under the covers with Sam, and a reunion with super cigar roller Rosa Florez and the queen of wholesale fruit, Felicia Ibarra.

From Miami, Florida, to Concord, North Carolina, and back to Miami, this is an action-packed, multi-car pileup of shady dealings, stolen technology, drive-thru windows, and destruction of personal property. It offers everything you always wanted to know about righteous indignation, stealing an 18-wheeler, stashing a dead body, and sex in the fast lane.

AWFUL

The narrator made the male characters sound like morons. They were but she made it worse. I ended up throwing it out after the first disc.

Just fine book

Not as good as original - sequel is too outrageous - but good for the 2 hour commute. Book is a tease - you are just waiting for the steam to hit between Sam Hooker and Barney - so you keep listening. Not the same as the Stephanie Plum series - but good nevertheless

Not exactly a Plum...

A long long series of events leading to a cute but usual ending. Seems the Evanovich books that are not part of the Stephanie Plum series are just carved out methodically and lack any real lustre. Have always been disappointed by books that aren't real Plums.

Fun Nascar based romp

Janet Evanovich' humor is timeless. Her attention to detail and character depiction are second to none! This is funny who-done-it that takes some hilarious turns, enjoy!

Not as good as the first

I think Janet Evanovich is so funny and I really liked Metro Girl, the precursor to this book, but this one was just OK. It kept me interested and had some funny parts, but nothing great. If you are a fan of Evanovich, worth a listen. CJ Critt is a great narrator as well.

Evanovich Fun As Ever

NASCAR guy revisited with all the old familiar "faces". Funny, entertaining. Well written and well read. Highly recommend.

terrible narration

I like Evanovich's novels, and have liked other audio editions, but I found it impossible to listen to this one. The narrator used a painfully exaggerated cartoon-like voice for the NASCAR-driver hero, and a bland generic voice for the New Jersey auto mechanic heroine. I had to turn it off by the 2nd or 3rd chapter. A big disappointment.

fun listen

This was a fun listen, although not yet up to Stephanie Plum standards. Evanovitch has fun developing some of the secondary characters here, and Bob-the-dog is re-born in Beans. Entertaining, but not engrossing. Critt does a good job with the narration and in capturing the spirit of the characters.

Not Worth the Money

This book is written in the form of slapstick comedy wihtout the wit of slapstick. The only good part of the book is C.J. Crit read it. Very disappointing.
