Story
Adrian Monk is horrified when he learns there's going to be a blue flu in San Francisco. He doesn't understand what the blue flu is - but it sounds terrible. Captain Stottlemeyer explains that it's not really a virus: the police force plan to call in "sick" until they get a better contract. The good news is that the labor dispute will give Monk a chance to get back on the force. The bad news is, it means he'll be a "scab" - and he doesn't like the sound of that, either.

Harvey Mapes is a 26-year-old security guard who spends his nights in a guard shack outside a gated community in Southern California, reading detective novels, watching reruns, and waiting for his life to finally start…which happens when Cyril Parkus, one of the wealthy residents, asks Harvey to follow his beautiful wife. The lowly security guard jumps at the opportunity to fulfill his private eye fantasies and use everything he’s learned from Spenser, Magnum, and Mannix. But things don’t exactly go according to the books…or the reruns.

Delightful listen
If you haven't heard a MONK audiobook yet, this one is quite delightful.
The story is is plotted out well.
The narrator does a good job.
The only reason I give this book a 4 stars instead of 5 is the over use of the word "said", but that might just be me.
If you like MONK the series, or the other MONK novels, you will have fun listening to this installment.

Might be better if you haven't seen the show
The actual plot was decent, but I thought the narration was pretty terrible. Maybe it's because I've watched the entire series on tv. Some stuff seemed out of character for both Monk and Natalie to be saying or doing.

The Monk
What made the experience of listening to Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii the most enjoyable?
Definitely Monks alter ego when he's on meds.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Monk, his antics have me in stitches. He like a modern day Sherlock Holmes - with issues.
Which character – as performed by Laura Hicks – was your favorite?
The Cop when he was going in and out of the pigeon speak and his reaction to Monk and his odd ways.

Hilarious & entertaining
Most TV scripts don't covert well to the written page, this does wonderfully. Like any good detective book, this even added aspects where the reader could find the flaws in evidence before the great Monkish unravelling!!

Natalie POV
I think if like these better if it was a neutral narrator not from any character pov. Since it's from Natalie's point of view you get a lot of stuff not necessary to the story.

I love Monk but gave up in this book
I loved the show Monk and miss it. Therefore, I looked forward to this.
However, I gave up about 40% of the way through.
Some stuff seemed out of character for Monk and, rather than craft an interesting murder mystery, the author just played up Monk's quirks again, and again, and again. I think I'll avoid other (Monk) books by this author because the character she creates isn't the Monk we love from the TV show -- it's almost a parody or caricature of him.
