Publisher's Summary

Monk's house is being fumigated, and he has nowhere to go. Fortunately, his assistant Natalie and her daughter are kind enough to welcome him into their home. Unfortunately, their home is not quite up to Monk's standards of cleanliness and order. But while Monk attempts to arrange his surroundings just so, something else needs to be put straight. The death of a dog at the local firehouse - on the same night as a fatal house fire - has led Monk into a puzzling mystery. And much to his horror, he's going to have to dig through a lot of dirt to find the answer.

Enjoyable listen

I believe this is the first MONK novel that this author wrote.
It was entertaining, and I could see the characters and situations that the author was creating.
Although he had the spirit of the characters, I couldn't decide if it is the narrator, or the character Natalie that is whinny.
But after this revelation and seeing another episode of MONK, it is the character and the author did a good job of capturing that aspect of her.
The reason I gave this book a 4 star instead of 5 is because the author insists on using the word 'said' too much (in my opinion). Then the characters talk to each other all you zero in on is 'said... said... said...' , a little annoying but tolerable.

Overall, if you are a MONK fan you will most likely get a kick out of this book.

Terrible narration

Love the Monk TV series but had a difficult time finishing the book because of the terrible narration. The narrator struggled with the various voices. Unfortunately, she was simply unpleasant to listen to.

The story was decent but made Monk seem even more ridiculous than the TV show. In the show, Monk is a growing person, little by little overcoming his "disability". In the book he just seems silly and ridiculous.

I'm not sure if I will listen to the next book or not.

Like the show but longer

This was great! I loved the show and the book doesn't disappoint. I laughed out loud at many different parts. Just what you expect from a Monk mystery; twists, turns and surprises!

Light and Fun Listen

I like to alternate between a serious book and a light, "fluffy" book. This fit the second category perfectly. I found it surprisingly funny. I giggled out loud several times listening to this book in public, which I haven't done since the last David Sedaris book. It was also quite touching in some parts, much like the TV show. Overall a very satisfying listening experience. I will be buying more in this series.

Awesome introduction to an amazing man

While a slow start with kids et al. this takes the course of the usual Mr. Monk spellbinders.

Great novel!

I loved listening to this book, it would have made for a great episode in the TV series. While it would have been great to have to original cast members for the TV show voice overs. The story and case keeps you listening until the end.
