Story
Nobody loves an honest man, or that was what police sergeant Hamish Macbeth tried to tell newcomer Paul English. Paul had moved to a house in Cnothan, a sour village on Hamish's beat. He attended church in Lochdubh. He told the minister, Mr. Wellington, that his sermons were boring. He told tweedy Mrs. Wellington that she was too fat and in these days of increasing obesity it was her duty to show a good example. Angela Brody was told her detective stories were pap for the masses and it was time she wrote literature instead. He accused Hamish of having dyed his fiery red hair.

Story
“They’re going to kill me soon,” begins the note Amelia discovers in an antique hurdy-gurdy. From that moment on, the shy young woman finds herself doing all kinds of things she never thought possible. Between newfound intimacies and a risky journey into the past, Amelia comes to see herself in a whole new light. The scrawled note drives Amelia to find out what happened to the person who wrote it, identified only as “Hannah.” Who was Hannah? Was she really murdered? Amelia’s investigation leads her to dizzying new heights of romance and danger. Like a tightrope walker, she must not look down—especially when she finds herself in situations uncannily similar to those Hannah faced just before her murder. Like the Mrs. Pollifax mysteries for which Dorothy Gilman is famous, The Tightrope Walker features a spirited and unpretentious heroine and an intriguing mystery, enhanced by colorful settings and characters. Ruth Ann Phimister’s skillful narration adds a personal dimension, making you care about Amelia and the fascinating and dangerous people she meets.

Fun change of plot for Mrs P novel
Love to brain chill with a Mrs. P novel every now and then. Its like eating a cream puff, nothing really there, but enjoyable anyway. This is different than the usual formula for Mrs P books and I enjoyed the change up, made me want to read the next.

Trouble comes home for Mrs Pollifax
After Emily takes Cyrus to the airport she returns home to find she isn't alone. Searching Mrs Pollifax finds her unexpected guest. A white van becomes suspicious in Emily's neighborhood. All this sets up a story Mrs Pollifax and visitor are running from their pursuers.
A call from an exhausted Mrs Pollifax brings the CIA to the rescue. Furthermore two crazy stories collide which sends Mrs Pollifax and crew to Africa.
Emily Pollifax has spunk, is creative, resourceful, and genuinely interested in catching the crook(s). I want to be an Emily Pollifax when I grow up.

Felt a bit like half a book
This is one of the thinnest, if not the thinnest, plots of any in this series. It feels far too short, as if one longer book got chopped in half and an ending was quickly added to the first half (this story) so it made sense. Disappointing, but I still love Mrs. P and Barbara Rosenblat.

A thousand voices from one talented actress makes the beloved series come alive. The intrepid Mrs P is stalked on her own turf discovering a stowaway hidden in her pantry closet. Her danger draws mrs p into a delicious journey of narrow escapes, a stint in the traveling circus, and the thwarting international skullduggery. A treat indeed

Danger, excitement, interesting char, & happy end.
Loved Mrs Pollifax as usual, she really packs in the th kms, and excitement into her weeks! From her home, to the circus, to paris briefly, then to Africa, before flying home. She does like to travel far! As always a hint of danger, full cast of interesting characters, and a happy ending! My favorite kind of story.
