Publisher's Summary

In the lean years following World War I, brash American adventuress Beryl Halliwell and prim and proper Brit Edwina Davenport form a private inquiry agency to make ends meet, hoping that crime does indeed pay...

The latest occurrence to disturb the peace in the quaint English village of Walmsley Parva hits rather too close to home - in fact, the prime suspect has taken up residence in Edwina's potting shed. Her elderly gardener Simpkins has been secretly sleeping there after a row with his disreputable brother-in-law and housemate, Hector Lomax.

When Hector is found murdered in the local churchyard, Constable Gibbs comes looking for Simpkins, who was last seen arguing with his kin in the pub the night before. Based on the sad state of her garden, Edwina has grave doubts that the shiftless Simpkins could muster the effort to murder anyone. The two sleuths throw themselves into weeding out suspects and rooting out the real killer.

But this is no garden variety murder. The discovery of a valuable ring, a surprise connection to Colonel Kimberly's Condiment Company, and a second homicide all force Beryl and Edwina to play catch-up as they relish the chance to contain the culprit . . .

Content is great.....and the flaw is Fixed!!

Thank you Audible for so quickly addressing the problem of the incomplete book! For all you fans of Beryl and Edwina, this is a worthy addition to the series. As always, Barbara Rosenblat is wonderful and for a little over 9 hours, you will again be transported to 1920 and the delightful village of Walmsley Parva.

Walmsley Parva... a not so quiet little town!

I've listened to the entire Beryl & Edwina Series over the last few weeks and I truly hope that we can expect more books and audio recordings with Barbara Rosenblat! Not going to deny that I'm excitedly curious to know what their next adventure holds in the not so "perfect" little town of Walmsley Parva with all of the plot twists and new characters in this book, the future looks good for the duo of B&E.

Perfect

For me this is the kind of “cozy mystery” I like. I gave up on the Mysteries and Thrillers I use to listen to after I was quarantined and could not bring myself to listen to them. This series is so well written it keeps me engaged with the mystery and the great characters. It’s not sugary. Best of all when I’ve finished the book I’m not depressed! Well a little but only because it’s finished.

Love the series & the audible!

The narrator Barbara Rosenblatt is a great orator! Different voices for the characters is such a treat. I’ve listened to all of these books, they’re fantastic. Just a quick paced, British village mystery with a pair of female leads. Five stars!

Not for me

I read the other two books and enjoyed them, but this one is not for me. The story is dull and bland and I lost interest.

The audiobook cuts off 1 minute into the final chapter

This was such a letdown. There is an issue with the audiobook recording and it ends 1 minute into the final chapter. Bleh. Someone else has reported it, so hopefully it will be fixed, but honestly.

Just what you need in a pandemic!

This is the third of four in the Beryl and Edwina mysteries and it was every bit as good and lighthearted as the others. if you're looking for something to brighten your outlook, this book will do it!

Performed! Not just read.

A book you can enjoy while you hands are otherwise occupied. Right number of characters, plot complex enough to hold your interest, but not so convoluted that you need a flowchart.

Barbara Rosenblat is one of the best narrators I’ve experienced. Is she really just one person?

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Highly recommend.

Perfectly fine

This series is a slow meander through small village life, characters, and murder. Not exciting, but definitely relaxing. The narrator is very good with mood, tone, pacing, cadence, and such. My only complaint would be how old everyone sounded and that the narrator often sounded like she had a smoker's voice. I don't mean to imply she smokes, but the narrative is very deep and growly.

Wonderful continuation of the series!

I enjoy following Beryl and Edwina's escapades. Keeping up with Beryl's adjustment to village life and Edwina's struggle to balance her upbringing with her newfound love of adventure add to the fun of trying to figure out their latest mystery. Also, Barbara Rosenblat is an absolutely wonderful narrator, and I love that she's stayed with the series.
