Publisher's Summary

Jessica and her friend, Dr. Seth Hazlitt, get the shock of their lives when they travel to a Florida retirement community for the funeral of their old friend, Portia Shelby, only to discover she has been murdered. Needless to say, America's most beloved sleuth soon finds herself with a Palm Beach potboiler on her hands. Who would want to kill her dear friend? A neighbor with a personal grudge? Or the victim's handsome husband, next in line to inherit her riches? One thing is certain: the beach umbrellas aren't the only shady things in the seemingly innocent community, so now Jessica is in a race against time to solve this Floridian flummoxer before it's too late.

Delightful and Suspenseful

One of the best books in this wonderful series, perhaps because I have a soft spot for the Keys. The storyline development was detailed, but never slow. The introduction to new characters was very smooth and believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Thank you for such high quality entertainment!

Fun, easy read!

I really enjoyed the narration of the book through my fire tablet. I am able to go for long walks, mow the lawn, vacuum the floor, or bike ride while having this book read to me! Great reading voice. Really held my attention.

Great narration

I take umbrage to other reviewer who said the narrator grates on "everyone's" ears. Cynthia Darlow is my favorite narrator and I often seek book s she narrates. When writing a review please keep it to your personal opinion.
I did enjoy the book.

Murder Madness

For a cozy mystery you can’t beat a Fletcher book. The narrator really compares to Angela Landsbury and makes for an enjoyable read. This particular one made me wish I was on a beach in the keys.

Fun read/listen

If you're on the road or just running errands, this is a fun whodunit to have along. Narration was very good and added to the enjoyment. it was easy to stop and take up again in my busy life and still keep up with the mystery.

Cerebral engaging mystery

This captivating novel combines an intricately woven story with facts about real estate development, herbal supplements, and the Florida southern shore. When the last page was read, I felt sorry leave my new Florida Foreverglades friends.

Hit or Miss

I'm still trying to put my finger on why I'm not enjoying the books as much as the TV series. Maybe it's the difference in pacing? Maybe it's the fact that the two I've listened too haven't really focused at all on Jessica's career, which was one of the most interesting aspects of the show for me. Maybe it's a bunch of little things combined, but I'm still on the fence about this series.

The reader was decent. My only complaint is something that I don't think she knew/realized - Mort Metzger IS NOT from Maine and SHOULD NOT sound like he is. He's from New York City, grew up there if I'm remembering correctly, and every time she had him speak, I winced.

Another small complaint - did Mort get remarried?! Did I miss that somewhere? In the TV series his wife's name has ALWAYS been Adele. Who exactly is MAUREEN?

And finally - the mystery itself. I think this is the first time I've seen a Murder She Wrote mystery turn out to be almost EXACTLY who everyone thought it was from the beginning. Yes, there were a few little additional twists, but I was underwhelmed by the mystery's solution this time around. :(

This is only my 2nd book in the series. I don't want to give up on it yet, but I've listened to 3-hour books that had a better story to tell and kept me guessing to the end, and made me want to immediately pick up the next one. This series just isn't doing that for me yet. I'm glad they're free with my subscription because based on the two I've listened to, I'd consider this series 'money lost' so far.

It was Ok

Jessica Fletcher isn't my cup of tea. I remember watching Murder She Wrote when I was younger, I didn't like the show then and I still don't like it. I'm sure there are other people who love it, it's just not for me.
