Publisher's Summary

A joke? A prank? Or something more sinister?

When the Exham-on-Sea residents are targeted by anonymous emails containing apparently harmless nursery rhymes, no one knows whether to laugh or shudder until an unexplained death touches the town.

Libby Forest, baker, chocolatier and Exham’s very own resident private investigator, alongside her partner Max Ramshore, set out to solve the puzzle before more people die. But when Max’s ex-wife arrives on the scene, ahead of Max and Libby's long-awaited nuptials, things go from bad to worse.

With the town and their relationship under threat, Max and Libby need the help of the Exham History Society if they're going to find the nursery rhyme killer in time.

Murder at the Gorge is the seventh in a series of Exham-on-Sea Murder Mysteries set at the small English seaside town full of quirky characters, sea air and gossip.

If you love Agatha Christie-style mysteries, cosy crime, clever dogs and cake, then you'll love these intriguing whodunnits.

Light, Interesting Murder Mystery

This is not my typical style of mystery, but it kept me interested with nicely developed characters and pleasant narration. I'd read another of Evesham's mysteries and find her style to offer a nice break from some of the heavier subject matter contained in my regular repertoire of often brooding and intense psychological thrillers. That said, I genuinely enjoy her writing style and would recommend this as a nice, light, satisfying read. Recommend.

Complex excitement with relaxing style

There may have been too many complexities thrown into the story but it flowed well and all mysteries were completely cleared up in the end. I enjoy the way the dogs are utilized in the series to provide a stabilizing and de-stressing influence on the plot and the characters and longed to see more of them in this story. I liked the reference to Nancy Drew and this series does have that old timeNancy Drew like feel to it.

very good mystery.

I really enjoyed this book. I've always enjoyed a good mystery and this one had many great twists and turns. The characters were interesting and most had very good personalities. The description of the gorge was down right scary. Frances Evesham has a great series going here. Charlotte Strevensdoes a fabulous job narrating these books.

How old is this couple?

The voice of the narrator sounds old, yet Max & Libby are described so many different ways I'm at a loss. Towards the end of the book we're told Ollie was into Dungeons & Dragons. These people could be anywhere from their 40's to their 70's given all the various indicators. They seem like a couple that would have awkward, dry closed mouth kisses. Can't imagine them making love beyond cuddling & holding hands and that has nothing to do with age, it's their personalities.

Murder, mystery, and beautiful Somerset. Flawless.

"Murder at the Gorge" is an excellent ending to this brilliant series. I fell in love with Libby, Max, Bear and Shipley, and the fictional town of Exham-on-Sea. I've never been to this part of Somerset but now, inspired by this wonderful series, I can't wait to go and enjoy the beauties of Dunster Castle, Minehead, Watchet, and everything else the area has to offer.
In the final instalment of the Exham-on-Sea Mysteries, Libby and Max tackle another case - one that hits dangerously close to home and ties the whole series together. Just like the previous books, it's beautifully written, well-plotted, sharp, yet cosy and narrated with such gentleness and compassion.
Charlotte Streven's reading is absolutely flawless and makes the book even better.
I've enjoyed the whole series so much that I almost feel a little sad I've reached the end of Libby and Max's adventures. Luckily, there are more cosy mystery novels by Frances Evesham that I'll be diving into very soon.

Excellent story

A really good easy listening mystery. Well read, good characters. The only issue I have is with audible. This was obviously part of a series as other cases and people were mentioned of which I had no clue about. This is always happening when I read the blurb it doesn’t state anywhere that this is book # in a series of #. It is most annoying audible. Sort it out.

perfectly pleasant

I bought this because I live near Bristol and have enjoyed Agatha Christie. this is a pleasant enough amble, with never an opportunity for a cliche missed, that is like an undemanding walk in Leigh Woods. The dialogue is afternoon tv.

Like Mrs Christie there is a full denouement in the final chapters for those who have not been paying attention throughout.

The reader is excellent.

An entertaining cosy crime story

If you like cosy crime this will be right up your street.
I think it was marginally spoilt for me by the narrator, who would be best placed reading childrens audio books.

Sickly sweet

Forgot the narrator is so sickly sweet, like a patronising elderly grandma. Story fits her voice, that's why I avoid anything narrated by her.
