Publisher's Summary

Before he was an Elfin Lord - before he even joined that secret group of Mages - Jamie Riley was a Mage recruited by the FBI and the Office of Supernatural Policing and Investigation. A new-minted Inspector sent into one of the most complicated supernatural regions in the country: Los Angeles.

The rest of OSPI’s LA team has grown comfortable with allowing politics and pragmatism to decide which cases they pursue, which criminals they charge - but when Jamie’s investigation suggests that a pillar of the supernatural community has killed in cold blood, he will let nothing get in the way of getting the murderer.

Not even his career.

A bite size masterpiece as usual

This series is my absolute favorite. I was bummed as it appears Glynn Stewart is only going to make 4 of the main series books. I jumped for joy when I saw this one pop up. Masterful as ever. When you pair a great series with the all time best narrator out there? Brilliance.

Liked it and think I may start the series

Overall found this mini intro to be very entertaining. Enough so that I will want to get the first book in the series and try it out.

Surprisingly gripping.

Short but action packed. Jamie is one of the good guys and a magic, working for a magical agency fresh out of recruiting. He’s sharp and by the book.
Cracking his first case could get him killed.
I highly recommend this brilliant short story, it’s a doozy.

Great short

This is probably my second favorite short story ever after baron steel as far as sci-fi and fantasy goes and ray porter is brilliant As always I routinely use it as a bedtime story it’s a good story and raise voice has some calming hypnotic affect despite the plot that allows me to fall asleep fairly quickly listening to it. At the same time if you’re awake and not tired you can listen to the story a couple times in a row it’s one of glynn’s best

the story is mediocre at best.

The characters are two dimensional. The female characters are poorly depicted and the racial stereotypes were un welcomed.

My first dive into this universe! Loved it!!

Everything was good, not too long, enough to tell the story. I definitely want more of this world!

A New Super Hero

I'm normally a military sci-fi guy, but this super natural special agent stuff was pretty cool. And you can't go wrong with Ray Porter...pure gold! More please!

Can't wait to start the series

I like this idea of being able to listen to a novella to decide if I want to get into a new series.

Having Ray Porter as the narrator is a great selling point for me. The story is written well and moves along quickly. I can tell this magic world will have slight differences from others that I've enjoyed, but so what? As long as it's put together well and in an entertaining fashion with a good storyline and good characters I am in.

Weak noir

Listen s like a noir but too much background set up with little magic happening.

So glad I tried this.

I admit that I only tried this because it was free but I am really glad that I did. Now I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the series.

That was all right

Pretty good little story. Quite bureaucratic though. When I enter into contemporary magical stories I like comedy or fantasy, not just straight forward policy and officers of the law. I might check out the book series though.

Ray Porter…

I listened to this because it was free and because I’ll listen to anything narrated by Ray Porter, and I’m glad I did. Crime fiction plus magic, that works for me. Now I need to listen to the rest of this series :)

More Like, Murder by Boredom

There was altogether too much Police procedure and not enough magic involved in this thankfully short piece. The narration was clear but read without much inflection or enthusiasm, as though the chap was bored to tears, as was I. It didn`t make me want to hear any more of the series, assuming there is one. I found myself waiting for the magic to occur but when it did it was completely underwhelming. It could have been an ordinary shoot-out while apprehending a crime suspect. I have probably been spoiled by being a fan of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, which this is absolutely nothing like.
