Much better than I expected!
I must admit I wasn't expecting anything more than the usual cosy murder , as I didn't know of Gladys Mitchell at all.
Besides the narration being exceptionally good , I realized the author making references that meant she was writing as a contemporary to the period it was set (as this was published in 1950).
Which is my preference , when reading , as I know from experience that often writers often get details so very wrong .
As they can't write the past without being influenced by the present .
For example . it is hard to explain how much political incorrectness was tolerated , or preoccupied people were with food during rationing.
If you like Agatha Christie , this is so much better , more of a refection of times and of real people.
I hope more of her works added to Audible , as most of my reading is done with my ears so I can get on with other mundane things :)

More please!
Gladys Mitchell deserves a place on the book shelves of every lover of the crime novel.
This is brilliantly read and I’m so hoping Audible bring more of her work out. A great listen and such a fantastic story!

Promises but doesn't really deliver
There are times in this book when we go for a ramble both in the writing and the story with groups going for walks through the country and the route told in much detail, in fact even in the final hour we have a 15 minute 'hunt' for no apparent reason. The ending seemed broken with no flow and I would have hoped for more.

enjoyable golden age detective story
This is a great winter listen. It's a fairly classic sort of story: there are some slightly spooky moments, but it's not as creepy or bizarre as some other Mrs Bradley stories. The narration is very good. She tackles a range of accents convincingly and her voice is pleasant to listen to. I particularly enjoyed the sense of place and the way the snow is described, and its crucial role in the story.

Laboured, tedious and smug.
Do not bother to listen to this. It is slow to the point of excruciating tedium and the characters, who are from another era, are neither attractive, quirky or interesting. A complete waste of time.

Disappointing
I really wanted to like this book, but I’m afraid I didn’t even get to the end of chapter 2. I found the narration intensely annoying, the characters stereotyped and irritating and the pace tedious. I can’t comment on the story as I didn’t get far enough to be able to add a useful review. It’s not often I dislike a book enough not to be able to listen to it, but sadly, this has put me off trying anything further by Gladys Mitchell completely.

Boring....
I really tried to enjoy this book but it was just too boring. It doesn't come close to Agatha Christie's similar poison-pen murder mystery 'The Moving Finger'. I persevered with Murder in the Snow but I've given up at the midway point. The pace is just too boring and slow. Endless dialogue where nothing happens.

Enjoyable
Gentle intelligent and engaging, just what I expect of a book from the Golden Era.
