Publisher's Summary

Halia Watkins has her hands full cooking, hosting, and keeping her boisterous young cousin, Wavonne, from getting too sassy with customers. Having fast-talking entrepreneur Marcus Rand turn up in her kitchen is annoying enough when he's alive - but finding his dead body face-down on her ceramic tile after hours is much worse.

Marcus had his enemies, and the cast iron frying pan beside his corpse suggests that at last, his shady business deals went too far. Halia is desperate to keep Sweet Tea's name out of the sordid spotlight but her efforts only make Wavonne a prime suspect.

Now Halia will have to serve up the real villain - before the killer returns for a second helping....

Pretty good but...

Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles is a pretty good mystery, but, I'm not sure I want the next book. The mystery was ok and the characters were engaging, but Wavonne got on my last nerve. Her character was stereotypical and annoying. I'm not sure I can put up with her through another book.

I enjoyed this book. Just a fun lighthearted murder mystery series... I can see this series being a tv series.

Cute and cozy

This was a cute book. It was a good mystery. The characters and storyline were relatable. It was nice to hear characters that sound like my family, f friends, and people I know. I loooved the recipes and will definitely be trying my hand at the corn casserole.

Funny and Intriguing

If you like murder mysteries with a touch of humor, this book fits the bill. Years ago, I read several Joanne Fluke books that are written using the same food theme. I loved them, and am really happy to find this Black author whose writing is equally captivating. I just purchased Book 2 for my next read.

Better than Expected

I almost passed up this gem, the narrator was on point, it was very entertaining and kept my interest. Wavonne was hilarious to say the least. I'm really enjoying the female sleuthing. A little corny, but to the point and very plausible. Looking forward to the next series.
I almost passed this up because of some of the reviews...so glad I decided to give this one a listen!

I was missing Blanche and found Halia

I enjoyed the story though some of the mispronounciations were distracting. I couldn't tell if they were deliberate or not, but the performance overall was good.

Disappointed

I m not a fan of the ending and narrator wasn't that good. I feel Mahalia and her cousin should have gotten some type punishment for moving the body. There dishonesty hurt others .

LOVE THE WITTINESS!

I thoroughly enjoyed this first installment. I came across this author by accident and it was a good accident! Can't wait to start 2nd book. I sure hope the author decides to do more book series too.
