Publisher's Summary

You’d think being magically tethered to the hottest warden in all Verona wouldn’t be a hardship.

You’d be wrong.

Incubus Nico Azertiran has his dream job as a cherub-in-training. It’s the perfect position for a lust demon who’s more interested in happily-ever-afters than one-night stands. Or it would be, if he didn’t keep screwing it up. When a new cherub gadget misfires, Nico is left trussed to Verona’s most eligible warden, the incredibly grumpy, Sir Flame.

Flambeau Illume has a job to do. Someone’s murdering Verona’s rich and famous, and Sir Flame’s hot on the killer’s trail...until he has the misfortune to get magically lassoed to the most infuriating incubus he’s ever had the displeasure to meet. Except, maybe Nico isn’t so terribly awful. But how can he solve his case and keep Nico safe at the same time? Especially when the sweet demon seems to have a bullseye on his back.

Together they need to solve the crime, stay alive, and - if their luck changes - maybe even fall in love. Easy, right?

Must Love Demons is part of the Magic Emporium series. Each audiobook stands alone, but each one features an appearance by Marden’s Magic Emporium, a shop that can appear anywhere, but only once and only when someone’s in dire need. This audiobook contains explicit scenes, a lariat of love, a demon tail with a mind of its own, and a guaranteed HEA.

Narrator Darcy Stark is so perfect! Yay!

An incubus whose special magic is love, not lust! This premise is simply brilliant and totally astounding! Writer Meghan Maslow just grabs and shakes the reader with this demon's awesome truth. Nicodemus Azertiran is thrown out of his legion because of his remarkable differences and his insistence on maintaining impeccable standards in sexual behavior. This demon wants romance! He did not enjoy his job as a sex worker, resulting in him not fitting in. But he is blessed with the ability to help others to discern their soul mates.
By solving a mystery in the prequel titled 'In Fair Verona', Nico was able to get a probationary job with Cupid Inc., whose equipment and uniform are too small for the 7ft incubus. In addition, the cherubs' matches are not the heart-soaring soul matches Nico is capable of, but he tries to fit in as best he can. Using an experimental love lariat from Cupid Inc's R&D department, cherub-in-training Nico is accidentally lassoed to phoenix shifter Flambeau Illume--a lead investigator for the Order of the Wardens. And the bond cannot be broken with the antidote developed for the Lariat of Love. Ward Illume is not interested in romance and proves invulnerable to the love juice the cherubs use with their arrows so being magically bounded to the incubus is unwelcome, at the very least. But forced proximity and the need to discover who is murdering Verona's rich and famous leads to Nico and Sir Flame learning to appreciate, accept and desire each other.
The world-building is truly wonderful as the writer uses several opportunities to describe the appearance, feel, and social structure in Verona. She is especially gifted in using secondary and tertiary characters to round out the nature of Nico and Sir Flame's world and their places in it. The development of the protagonists is outstanding as readers are able to see them grow individually and as a couple who learn to work together in spite of their cultural distinctions, personality differences, and social variances. The story is just so 'tight and alright' with entertaining elements in the narrative that encourage the reader to stay engaged and invested. Then the conflicts are satisfactorily resolved as the writer put forth the time and energy to make it all come together in a credible manner. I'm hoping we will see more of Nicodemus Azertiran! Narrator Darcy Stark is sheer perfection in reading this thoroughly enjoyable story. The writer's selection is EXCELLENT! Good one, Meghan Maslow!

Cute, unexpected, complex and absolutely wonderful

A total fantasy world, where a 7 foot incubus demon had the power of love rather than lust. His magic is for true love, so he tries to become a Cupid. Seriously. A 7 foot tall incubus wearing a Cupid toga, trying to shoot a teeny tiny bow. It gets a teeny bit campy at times, not too much, but just enough that the balance between normal humor and ridiculous is like a tasty seasoning- too much would have ruined it.From the first scene readers are introduced to a ridiculously cute and funny story that has a complex plot, multiple surprises, and a certain depth that is usually not seen in a book labeled as ‘cute’. It’s got everything you could need- great characters that defy stereotypes, fantastic creatures, a surprising plot that you just can’t guess all the angles, spicy hot times, and eventually after lots of griping and cantankerous shenanigans - love. Darcy Stark is fantastic at narrating this story. No dry, dusty reading here! His with accents and clear character delineations are spot on so the listener knows who is talking at all times. The emotions are portrayed perfectly with no over-dramatization.

I really loved listening to this book, there was lots of fun and seriousness in it, with a great ending. I hope there’s more of Nico and Flame in future.

Cute fantasy ❤️

I love Maslow, her stories always make me smile!
This audio was nice, though I had a few issues with it. Like how Flame sounded so grumpy even in moments when he wasn’t. That just made it a little difficult for me to get a read on him.

An unusual incubus

Oh my gosh this story is so delightful! Tossed out of his clan because his magic is true love instead of lust, Nico the incubus has been on his own for a while. Now working for the cupids whose magic is supposed to be about love, he finds himself accidentally tethered to a grumpy Phoenix warden by the name of Flame. Stuck together, these two have to figure out how to cohabitate while solving a major case Flame is working on. And Darcy Stark's characterizations are so spot on! I loved his voices. He really added to the enjoyment of this tale. Highly recommended!!!

Great

Meghan Maslow writes urban fantasy like no one else. Her stories are set in different worlds but still feel familiar. Must Love Demons is no different. It’s a detective story with a fantasy twist. I loved the unique take on an incubus as well.

Highly entertaining!!!

I adored this when I read this, I absolutely loved it on audio! The narrator did an awesome job distinguishing voices and gave so much personality to Flame and Nico. The mystery was great, and even though I knew what was coming, it was still interesting to read. I'd love to read an interlude story that shows what life is like for them a few months down the road, but I hope we see more of them in Ahz's book. This is a fascinating world.

Fantastic story and narration!!

Loved the story, the characters but the narration took it to a whole new level!
Darcy Stark is not new to me and have enjoyed his narrations, but this was a masterpiece of a performance! So many characters, so many voices and accents and not one misstep. He did a phenomenal job with Ms Maslow's book.
Needless to say, highly recommend!

Absolutely loved it

Poor Niko couldn’t catch a break. He had a heart of gold but he was always overlooked or mistreated.

Flame was a grumpy phoenix but Niko bought out a different side of him.

Flame and Niko had a slow burn romance; it simmered for ages until everything finally exploded between them.

I was gobsmacked by the turn of events towards the end - didn’t see that coming.

Fantastic book. The characters were amazing and pulled me in instantly. The narrator’s performance was fantastic.

Must Love Demons!

Loved this pnr set in alternative-world Verona inhabited by demons, cupids, shifters, wizards and all sorts of creatures.
The book is a lot of fun with a grumpy phoenix shifter getting (literally) stuck with a clumsy, wannabe-cupid, incubus. Being tied together brings all sorts of trouble, not least of which their growing attraction and burgeoning feelings toward each other.
As I said, fun and very easy and pleasant to read, but with a twist in the mystery part of the book leading to a major plot twist which left me, frankly, quite speechless.
Loved Darcy Stark’s narration. He did a really good job on this one!

Enjoyable listen

This was a good book. I’d recommend listening to the prequel novella, In Fair Verona, before listening to this as it gives a good introduction to some of the characters and settings. I’m looking forward to more from this series!

I LOVE DEMONS!

I am beyond thrilled that this book has made it to audio. I first read it on KU, then bought the paperback as I wanted a physical forever copy. I’ve been on something of a book binge over the last four or so months, and have got through upwards of 200 books. Must Love Demons is definitely one of my favourites, and I am so delighted to have found Meghan Maslow.

The title caught my notice of all the kindle books recommended to me by Amazon. I had recently devoured E.J.Russell’s Mythmatched series, which has left me with a soft spot for cuddly demons. I was not left disappointed, Nico is the ultimate cuddly demon!

I thoroughly recommend that you enjoy the prequel short story In Fair Verona before embarking on Must Love Demons. Here we meet Nico, and learn more about Marden’s Magic Emporium, and how Nico came to be a cherub. We also learn how Sir Galfridus came to be in his current situation (and why we hate him).

There is so much to love in this book. Nico and Flame are just fantastic characters who are so gorgeous together. There is so much support and caring going on between these two, that you’ll end up a melted puddle of happiness :)

The world of Verona is so rich with fascinating side characters. Forced proximity leading to awkward situations, a very cheeky tail, cherubs up to no good, Flame constantly threatening to arrest everyone in sight, disappearing clothes, enough action to get your heart thumping, and a deliciously sinister plot twist. What more could you want? Oh yeah, the sex is smoking hot too ;)

Darcy Stark has been a complete revelation with his narration of these Maslow books. I have listened to a few books narrated by him in the past, and I was extremely doubtful when I first saw that he had recorded In Fair Verona. Maslow’s books are bursting with colour and energy, and I have found Darcy’s previous works pleasant but pedestrian. I was won over by his voicing of Nico, oh my gosh it’s so beautiful. I just can’t imagine Nico’s sensitivity and strength being portrayed any better. I have been bowled over by Darcy's work on Must Love Demons. I imagined that Verona would be a place teeming with a huge array of accents, and I’m so pleased that has come to life on audio. I am always impressed when a narrator sustains a foreign accent for a main character, and in this case it was both MCs with two different accents, plus numerous others among the support cast. Colour me impressed.

This was my first Maslow book, and I am hooked! I am really hoping that we get more books set in Verona. We leave Nico and Flame starting “a new chapter” as Flame puts it, and I for one, cannot wait to see what they do next. A detective/matchmaking agency?! I’m also desperate to know the stories of various side characters, especially Azrael and Raaf, Trey and Jerrill, and Pree.

If you find yourself in need of a Maslow fix, I can heartily recommend her reworking of Rumpelstiltskin: ‘Demon’s In the Details’ (yep, another cuddly demon, but a bit more bad ass than our sweet Nico) in the anthology ‘Fables Retold: An MM Urban Fantasy Anthology’ by Rhys Lawless et. al. I hope we’ll see that story make it to audio too.

I’m going to get stuck into Maslow’s Starfig Investigations series.

Happy listening!

The ultimate forced-proximity romance!!

Unlike most incubi whose magic inflames lust, Nico’s magic shows those around him their soul mates, so you’d think working as a cherub-in-training would be his dream job. You’d think wrong. His cherubic robes have no pockets and reveal way too much of his 7-foot frame and tail, and don’t get him started on trying to aim the tiny bow and arrows! When their latest invention, the ‘lariat of love’, sees him permanently tethered to a very cranky phoenix and warden, Sir Flame, things go from bad to worse. After thoroughly enjoying the prequel novella, In Fair Verona, where we meet Nico, this full-length novel was superb: lovely humour, great action, a sweet and hot romance, and a wonderful urban fantasy world. I also loved Darcy Stark’s carefully wry audio narration, which enhanced the story and humour perfectly.
