Story
Colin MacIntyre's life as a NASA astronaut might not have been exciting, but at least it was orderly. Unfortunately, he's been tapped for greater things, and he isn't too sure he likes it. First he was kidnapped by an ancient, self-aware starship masquerading as Earth's moon. Then he was drafted as its captain to suppress a 5,000-year-old mutiny. And then he had to mobilize the planet against the attack of an eons-old ancient menace dedicated to the eradication of all intelligent life in the galaxy! It's hard to blame him for feeling a little stressed....

Story
Spacers call the warp point Charon's Ferry. No star ship has ever entered it and returned since a vengeful Orion task force pursued a doomed Terran colonization fleet into it in 2206. Almost a century has passed. The fiery hatreds of a quarter-century of warfare between the Terran Federation and the Zheeerlikou'valkhannaieeee, the cat-like species humans called the "Orions", have eased at least a little.

Story
Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But they made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home/work, tortured and murdered her family, and then left her for dead. Alicia decided to turn "pirate" herself, and stole a cutting-edge AI ship from the empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's gone crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders. And, of course, the pirates want her dead, too.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
Stephanie Harrington had always expected to be a forest ranger on her homeworld of Meyerdahl until her parents relocated to the frontier planet of Sphinx in the far distant Star Kingdom of Manticore. It should have been the perfect new home - a virgin wilderness full of new species of every sort, just waiting to be discovered. But Sphinx is a far more dangerous place than ultra-civilized Meyerdahl, and Stephanie's explorations come to a sudden halt when her parents lay down the law: no trips into the bush without adult supervision!

Story
Doctor Benjamin Schröder was far from a man of action. In fact, he was a history teacher - chairman of the Castle Rock University history department - and if his life wasn't perfect, it was close. Until, that is the discussion of his star student Elzbietá Abramowski's dissertation on Operation Oz, the Pacific Allies' invasion of Vladivostok, was brutally interrupted. The psychotic episode that turned his entire world upside down struck with absolutely no warning, and it was more terrifying than anything he should have been able to imagine.

Publisher's Summary
Mutiny
For Lt. Commander Colin Maclntyre, it began as a routine training flight over the moon. For Dahak, a self-aware Imperial battleship, it began millennia ago when that powerful artificial intelligence underwent a mutiny in the face of the enemy. The mutiny was never resolved - Dahak was forced to maroon not just the mutineers but the entire crew on prehistoric Earth.
Dahak has been helplessly waiting as the descendants of the loyal crew regressed while the mutineers maintained control of technology that kept them alive as the millennia passed. But now Dahak’s sensors indicate that the enemy that devastated the Imperium so long ago has returned - and Earth is in their path. For the sake of the planet, Dahak must mobilize its defenses. And that it cannot do until the mutineers are put down. So Dahak has picked Colin Maclntyre to be its new captain. Now Maclntyre must mobilize humanity to destroy the mutineers once and for all - or Earth will become a cinder in the path of galactic conquest.

I think that this book is awful.
I love David Weber's writing. THIS book, I do not love. The narration in the story (not Jonathan Todd Ross, the audio book narrator) is often awkwardly formal. There is nothing wrong with the Audio Narration given what he had to work with. There are countless "For he/she/it was the..." statements and it sounds ridiculous when read out loud. I think this is because a lot of the dialogue flows pretty naturally and clashes with the narration. There is a character who speaks in "Unexplained Modern Shakespearian Iambic." There is dated slang from at least 3 different decades and dating real world social/political references that are just fuzzy enough to fit in a near future setting. The book was published in 1991 and is the first of a series of 3 books. I didn't know this until I did some research. I thought, and still do think, that the books reads like an early manuscript rescued from a drawer and worked on from time to time and then published. I kept thinking "Oh, man, this is really, really bad" until I gave up on listening to it in chapter 20. There are brain transplants and the mention of a theoretical bio-enhanced Hitler. I don't really care what happens, and the protagonist is a cardboard cutout who I don't have any sort of feelings for/about, good or bad, after about the 3rd chapter.

One of my favorite books
Mutineers Moon has been one of my favorite series for decades. When I saw it had come out on Audible, I had to get it immediately. However, I’m so disappointed in the narrator! He speaks slowly and calmly - much like I imagine Dahak himself speaks - but his voice doesn’t get excited at exciting parts of the book. It’s like he’s reading the phone book. I would love to have the entire series in Audible - with a different narrator. Other reviewers have suggested having R. C. Bray read, and I think that’s a fantastic idea!

Disappointed
This book started off really great, and I enjoyed the new concept of the story! However as is David Weber's normal way of writing, like he did in the Safehold series, it rapidly deteriorated into a political nightmare, battle, etcetera, which I really don't care for!

One of my all-time favourites.
I first read this about 25 years ago and it is still one of my favourite sci-fi stories. The only downside to this one is the narrator’s odd style. He sounds like he’s reading a children’s bedtime story and his timing leaves much to be desired. Pauses where there should be none, no pauses where there should be some, particularly to differentiate between scenes, and a peculiar, off-time rhythm all tend to detract from a great romp.
Still worth the listen, doubly so if Audible adds the next in the series, Armageddon Inheritance.
If given the narrator it deserves, like Sean Runnette, John Lee or (my personal fave) RC Bray, this series would really come to life.

The moon is an ancient self-aware battleship?
Just take my money.
I'll agree that the narrator has an odd cadence. I'll also admit some pronounciations aren't the way I've been saying them. However, that's more the fault of the director than the narrator.
Once you put on your big-boy pants and listen to it like you're an adult, it's still the same fantastic story it has always been.
Mutineers Moon was love at first sight when I found it decades ago and this audiobook was greatly anticipated. PLEASE continue the series!

An old favourite, read delightfully well
I've read the paperback so many times that when I read it I skip over whole sections of the text. Listening to it was like hearing the story anew, for every detail was enunciated, even the author's spelling errors, which caused the odd chuckle. Even now, I stare up at the moon, in wonder and wish.
