Publisher's Summary

In 1789 HMS Bounty under the command of Lieutenant William Bligh sailed off on a voyage to Tahiti in the South Pacific to obtain breadfruit trees for transplanting in the Caribbean. After a long, difficult voyage, in which a passage of Cape Horn had to be abandoned, the ship finally reached its destination. Within a few months, the Bounty was loaded with breadfruit plants and fresh provisions. But the return voyage never materialized.

In this most successful retelling of the famous saga of the Bounty mutiny, Nordhoff and Hall recreate the excitement, peril, fear, and tension that envelope the crew members. Made into films in 1935, 1962, and 1994, it is a story that continues to enthrall new generations. In a realist style, the novel brings the listener into the private world of William Bligh, Fletcher Christian, Roger Byum, and all the other crew members. It is a story you will want to hear more than once.

Critic Reviews

"This vigorous, artistic narrative remains incontestably the finest account of the Bounty story, and since many others have tried to write of this famous ship and its misadventures, the accomplishment of Nordhoff and Hall was not trivial. A grand book." (James A. Michener)

Excellent narration of a classic sea adventure!

This is an excellent audio version of Mutiny on the Bounty! I read the book several years ago, and loved it. I needed to reread it so it was fresh in my mind for a book discussion group, and decided to make more efficient use of my time by listening to part of it. That is why I purchased this audible version. Well, I am so glad that I did! I ended up listening to most of the book. The narrator was wonderful, and he made the story come alive.

MUST READ True Adventure

I read Nordhoff & Hall's "Bounty Trilogy" when I was 20 years old. Forty years later, the books are still among my favorites of all time. In my opinion, the music, and British accented narration, bring the story more life than a hard-copy reading. I would recommend this book to men, women, and readers in their teens. I certainly hope that this first book in the trilogy will be followed by "Men Against the Sea" and "Pitcairn Island" in the near future.

Well read, true narrative, classic seafaring tale!

Having always loved this story, I eagerly looked forward to listening to it and was not disappointed. The reader captures the essence of the Islanders language which is key to this story.

Adventurous and Fast-Paced Story!

As a young girl in the 1960s and 1970s I found that reading allowed me to travel, escape, dream and survive epic adventures. Many, many times my dad entered my room long past bedtime to take from me the flashlight that I was using to read while under the covers. I fell in love with adventurous and mysterious stories because they made me feel like I was living that kind of life.

Recently, I found myself awake at 3 am and arguing with myself that it was time to push the stop button on this audiobook. I couldn't bear to stop it. This seafaring tale exciting and shocking. I wasn't sure it would be a book for me. But I loved it!

Great Story

This fictional account... wait come back! Just hear me out.

This fictional account of the true story of the Mutiny on the Bounty is told from the first person perspective of "Peter Heywood" errr I mean "Roger Byam". The details exactly match that of Peter Heywood start to finish with about 95% of the being the same as the true events that happened to Peter Heywood. It's a great book. I thought it was a non-fiction book when I got it, that's all I read and listen to, but I enjoyed it nonetheless because of his accurate it was to the real story. It's great start to finish.

Masterful

Possibly the best audiobook experience I’ve ever had. Not the cheapest version, but worth every penny.

Excellent Presentation

Where does Mutiny on the Bounty rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best historical novels

What about Charlton Griffin’s performance did you like?

Appropriately British, but not overboard. Good differentiation of character voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

One more time

Phenomenal story. I couldn't leave it alone . better than just reading a book

The narrator of the story fantastic job. Probably the best audiobook Ive listened to ever. Doesn't matter how much those things cost, buy it it's worth your time. So good I wish I could give it a higher rating. One of my favorite books anyway. Thanks for producing it.

Classic delivery of a classic story.

Would you consider the audio edition of Mutiny on the Bounty to be better than the print version?

Yes, the sounds of the sea and the British voices really bring the experience to the next level.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mutiny on the Bounty?

The trial is one of the best parts. You can feel the tension with lives on the line. The contrast of brutality and empathy.

Have you listened to any of Charlton Griffin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this was my first and I will be seeking more.

Any additional comments?

This is the classic story that anyone who appreciates sea stories has read or heard. I have read the book several times. This was my first time listening to the book. Audio books are not always better than print but in this case the experience was enhanced greatly. Mr Griffin's accent and delivery were perfect for the time period of the book. He also clearly changes his tone to represent different characters. An A+ excellent performance. I could not stop listening once I started and was sad when it was over.
