Millions of us increasingly seek happiness in fads and self-help books, reaching upward every day toward some enlightened state that we wish to attain. Surfing icon Laird Hamilton is more intent on looking inward and appreciating the brilliant creatures we already are. In Liferider, Laird uses five key pillars - Death & Fear, Heart, Body, Soul, and Everything Is Connected - to illustrate his unique worldview and life practices. This is Laird Hamilton in his own words - raw, honest, and unvarnished - on topics he has rarely explored before.

When her father signed his bereaved daughter up for sports teams as a way to keep her busy, female athletes became the first women Pappas looked up to, and her Olympic dream was born. At the same time, Pappas had big creative dreams, too: She wanted to make movies, write, and act.

Joe De Sena has spent his life running toward challenge and discomfort. Why? Because how we react to challenging situations defines us and our families. The only tools we have as humans to survive the many peaks and valleys of a full life are preparedness, health, leadership, and most importantly, resilience. Why do so many parents struggle to finish things we start, delay gratification, and protect our health - and why do our kids continue to struggle in every facet of life? Because we haven’t showed them a path to resilience, and we haven’t fought for it ourselves.

Publisher's Summary
Much has happened to Gabrielle Reece since her 1997 best seller Big Girl in the Middle. She’s still gorgeous, still 6’3”, and a dominant force on and off the beach, but in the last 15 years, she’s settled down with world-class surfer Laird Hamilton and raised three stunning blonde girls. Her life might seem like a fairy tale from afar, but four years after her picture-perfect Hawaiian marriage to Laird, Gabrielle filed for divorce. In the end, the couple worked it out, but My Foot Is Too Big for the Glass Slipper tells the unvarnished and often hilarious tale of the turbulent ups and downs that beset every wife and mother - even the women like Gabrielle who seem to have it all.
Reece writes with wicked humor and down-to-earth wit about how she handles the sometimes mind-numbing details of domestic life, and she turns the notion that women can “have it all” on its head. As Gabby dismantles the notion of happily ever after, she gives readers plenty of concrete takeaways about how to deal. She underscores the notion that you have to make yourself happy before you can make anyone else happy.
My Foot Is Too Big for the Glass Slipper is an irresistible, hilarious, and helpful portrait of the humor, grace, and humility it really takes to stay sane given the challenges of being a modern wife and mother.

Much more relevant than I imagined
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
My friends, married, single, moms or not, can always benefit from such candor.
What did you like best about this story?
I love being proved foolish and narrow. I allowed myself to scoff at the prospect of a financially comfortable, beautiful woman living in paradise knowing what it means to devote yourself to a man and children, while scratching and clawing to retain your own identity, but Gabrielle shut that train of thought down right away.
What does Gabrielle Reece and Karen Karbo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Reece has a recognizable voice, and it simply wouldn't do to substitute my own inner one, plus for the above reasons, she becomes an instant girls-night pal.
Any additional comments?
Do yourself a favor and look beyond the hype about the "submissive" part. It's not anywhere near what you've heard.

Really Liked It
I really enjoyed this book. I ordered it after hearing her on a podcast and thought it might be interesting to hear about her journey. She is very candid in the book and transparent without being overly dramatic. Her voice is pleasant to listen to which isn't always the case with people reading their own stories.
She's still young so hopefully she will do another edition in 20 years!

Everything I needed to hear and more
I have been searching for a female role model for a while due to feeling lost and confused in my relationship and life, and this book has helped me understand so much. Gabrielle Reece is an amazing woman and I hope I can live by the same codes she has talked about in this book to be a real Woman/Queen and not a little girl/princess. This book helps women understand a males perspective and how to orchestrate a successful family relationship. This is a book I would listen to over and over again.

Speaking my language
It’s so reassuring to hear someone like Gabby confirm your ideals. Women are different from men and you can have a marriage that embraces both the individual and the couple. That marriage means honestly, independent, submissiveness and a lot of naked smiley time. Gabby does a great job reading her story. Her delivery is more of a conversation than a lecture. I know this is not the last time I will listen to her story!
