Publisher's Summary

It seems Ken can't do anything right. He loses saddle blankets and breaks reins...but then comes the worst news yet: a report card so bad that he has to repeat a grade. How can you tame the dreamy mind of a boy who stares out of the window instead of taking an exam? Enter Flicka, the chestnut filly with a wild spirit. Over the course of one magical summer, both will learn the meaning of responsibility, courage, and, ultimately, friendship.

My Friend Flicka

This publication uses profanity and Gods' name in vain. Unbelievable that adults can't find a more mature way of expresing things. For petes sake this is a childrens book. I purchased this for my 5 year old grandaughter. Gratefully I listened to it first. Sad, she will never hear it.
Disappointed

Better Than Even I Remembered

Why is this only on Audible Kids? Like all classics, this is a complex story with appeal to adults as well - it’s actually an adult novel with simple aspects that appeal to kids. I have re-read it many times at various stages of life. I am near 60 now and found new pleasure, new nuances. PLEASE get Thunderhead and Greengrass of Wyoming, the sequels. I volunteer to read them aloud!

Michael’s life giving narration

This title has been a favorite of our family’s for many years. We first listened to the discs from the library- and now own it on audible.
Several quotes from this reading live in our family’s lore lexicon.
When Ken chants liltingly- “yes sir, no sir, yes sir, no sir.”
And when Rob says “love me?” to Nell.
It’s not just the words but the way Michael gives life to them. In his voice there is a sense of longing. The whole book is about longing. And his voice is perfect for it!

classic story

I loved this book though it had a slow start. It was worth getting through that.

O my freakin goodness!! One of my favorite books ever...

Yeah, I said freakin' 'cause I'm from So. Dakota y'all !!" That's a baby, no sense at all... This last one was one of the worst possible of insults on the Goose Bar Ranch... For a horse without sense was a horse without a right to existence." I would not recommend this book for young horsemen lookin' for horse knowledge 'cause sometimes Mary O'Hara has false knowledge to offer for beginners. For ex it is not called a "horse-colt" it's called a COLT OK?!?? even a stud or stallion. I, myself plan to get me a little mare nag just to be a friend an to ride ( ' cause I don't have any real friends, just animal) :( but hey, call me country ( which I am,) btw, the " Heraford " cows ( and steers) are pronounced HER-FORD i ain't makin' fun of M.L.W. just, IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!! Also, Flicka is supposed to be a sorrel mare or filly, not yellow... By the picture. Any- who looooooooooooooooooooovvee horses!! Any horse( inexperienced ) lover or any for that matter wiil love this book

Great story for a trip to Laramie WY.

This is a VERY long book. But Wyoming is a VERY big state. We enjoyed listening between stops.
