Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

LOVED the last quarter of this book...
Narration: Kirsten Potter is one of my favorite historical romance narrators. I love how she does the accents, her male voices are on point and she makes stories more interesting.
Story: I really like Angeline Fortin and the last 25% of this story shows the passion, excitement and action I look forward to when I read/listen to her books. This story felt a bit long and about half way in it was getting boring. But I am soooo glad I finished it because that last quarter of the book Makes everything make sense and so exciting. This is a past life/reincarnation/Dejavu story of a love that survives death, travels time and countries, a love for ever and always. Beautiful!!

A love story to fall in love with
Usually reading time travel stories saddens me deeply. Leaving people one loves behind and moving on was always the part that weighed my heart down but not so here. AF does a fabulous job keeping the story upbeat and happy. Time travel is like believing in Santa Clause. You know it's not real and yet that does not reduce the ache of longing for it to be real. I absolutely adored this book

My heart is in the Highlands too!
The author of this book delivered a clever time-travel romance adventure with a few twists. This unique book actually weaves 4 lives into one romance….strange but true. There was just enough romance, intrigue, and mystery to keep me captivated.
Not sure if this book is in a series but if it isn't that's disappointing. If you like thought provoking time-travel romances with great narration don't hesitate on this one. ;-).

Best of Fortin
At first, I thought what the heck did I borrow. As the story progressed and future melded with the past, I got caught up in the story... cried then sympathized. When MC and BFF were getting ready to leave my wow moment happened and my toes curled for remainder of the story.

Awesome story by an awesome narrator..
I read this book the first time in 2013, and I loved it then. I listened to it over the past couple of day and loved it again. I had forgotten that there were 2 people inside the same body, Mikah and Hero, not trying to see who the predominate one was but to live harmoniously until Mikah could figure out what was going on. How could Mikah know absolutely everything about Hero’s castle when she was from the 21st century and this was now 1856? Not to mention she’s met the man she’s been dreaming about most of her life.
Sometimes I mention in a review that it seemed everyone was naked because the author never gave her character clothes. In this book Ms. Fortin has described every bit of clothing and everything about every single room imaginable. It was a little much for me but I know a lot of you like all that description. There are pages and pages of it. It was annoying to me but not so much that it took away from the story. It’s simply information that might be helpful to those who love descriptions and a warning to those who don’t like so much of it.
I did like Mikah/Hero and Ian/Jace but I had forgotten about what happened at the end of part 2. I really, really hated that part. BUT it ended up being a perfect, perfect time travel novel. Yeah, I cried and it was worth every single tear.
Besides hating Daphne (and I certainly wasn’t surprised that she was one of the bad guys) I absolutely loved the Duke of Beaumont, Hero's father. With his touch of Alzheimer’s the author gave him the funniest and most loving lines in the book. His interruptions of Hero and Ian was just hilarious.
There was several love scenes, explicit love scenes. There were a few of the usual small swearwords and the F-bomb was dropped 5 times.
As to the narration: I love, love, love Kirsten Potter. She does everything right!

O-M-G!!! I wish this was a series of their life!
This book started off slow, it was still good. I just got confused, and thought where the heck was Mika? But then it got so good, it all came together! I wish this was a series. Angeline Fortin, if you read these reviews PLEASE!! You should make a series of this love that starts from the PICTs, celts and Druids and carry it through time!! I would read every one!! I would love to watch something like that in a series!! Love this book! It is my number one, and I have read so many series! Every single one of Angeline’s historic romances ( that’s my preferred genre) so good stay with it!
