An emotional ride.

As a traveling nurse my kitty and I spend a lot of time in the car together. We listened to this book on the way home to Tampa from an assignment in Minnesota. We laughed, we cried and we thoroughly enjoyed this book. Cat people do read books!

Narration issues

As much as I enjoy a good pet story I am sad to say the author’s reading was, although full of expert, did not delight my ears. I feel guilty saying this because she did great inflections.

Perfect Pet Memoir

The collected stories in this book are well written put together well. It's clear that they are separate essays complied later to make this book because of some of the repeated information, but it was still a coherent story throughout. The author really discovered the cat craze and love affair with pet memoirs while both were in their infancy, and has built a nice career out of it. Some people may not like that, but I think she's sincere in sharing interesting stories and advocating for adopting shelter animals. A good, heartwarming story is what people want from pet memoirs, and this book delivers.

While Gwen Cooper is a fantastic cat parent and writer, she's just an average narrator. But having authors narrate their own work has its perks - this sounded like a heartfelt reading and authors know their own work better than anyone.

I've heard of Homer before reading this book, and it was interesting to read more about him and his "siblings". It's the first book I've listened to by Gwen Cooper, and I'll probably be reading others. Recommended read or listen for animal lovers, anyone interested in pet memoirs, and fans of Dewey the library cat. Very heartwarming and well written.

Ho hum

Many will enjoy these wholesome stories but I was only slightly entertained. I think it was way too long and only finished it because I was busy and distracted so just let it play. Some of the stories were interesting but mostly they were nothing out of the ordinary. However, the main reason for my poor review was the boring, expected writing. The continued use of cliches and overused expressions was frustrating and irritating. Even the sentence structure and the cadence of her reading, while not outwardly bad, was just uninteresting. I felt like she was trying hard but could not quite reach the place of originality to maintain engaging storytelling. It's hard to say this because she seems to be completely devoted to giving her cat companions the very best life possible. Bottom line - fluff - like her kitties.

A must for cat lovers

Gwen yet again writes about her life with her cats with warmth and humour. There’s some sadness but also a lot of laughs and heart.
