Publisher's Summary

Soon to be adapted for TV by Netflix!

Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades—the perfect daughter. And then . . .

Surprise #1: Jackie's family dies in a freak car accident.

Surprise #2: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters—her new guardians.

Surprise #3: The Walters have twelve sons. (Well, eleven, but Parker acts like a boy anyway.)

Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy—loud, dirty, annoying boys who have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She's not stuck-up or boring—no matter what they say—but proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents' memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

Promotes Toxic Behavior

what I have to say about the performance is short: the narrator was monotone, and lackluster, every phrase ending in the same vocal cadence. The story, on the other hand was a nightmare I could talk about for ages. Aside from the main character's lack of compelling emotions (despite the fact that she had plenty to be emotional about), this story very heavily promoted a lot of toxic ideas and behaviors. It includes ridiculous gender stereotypes (guys like sports, mischief, and dirt. Girls like frills, pink, and tidiness. Also, frills, pink, and tidiness equal bad), abuse disguised as romance (the main love interest is domineering, emotionally abusive, and manipulative, but don't worry because he did it out of jealousy and love! puke). Additionally, it makes light of situations that could very well be considered sexual harassment. Warning/spoiler: There is a scene in which the boys steal the main character's clothes and towel while she's in the shower and wait outside the bathroom with a video camera in hopes that she will come out naked. They all had a good laugh.

Just so shallow

I was in the mood for something somewhat innocent, Young adult-ish. The premise of this book seemed interesting. However, what could have been a really interesting idea was never flushed out. The characters were all extremely shallow. Most notably, Jackie, the protagonist. She just lost her entire family in a car crash at the start of the book and it really delved no deeper into those feelings of grief or remorse. Her guardian, the woman who is supposed to be taking care of her in this horrible, tragic time of her life, does absolutely nothing to protect her from the cruelty she endures at the hands of the people living in her home. There’s absolutely no significant interaction between this adult mother and a 16-year-old girl. Every interaction was just too shallow. The entire story was completely vapid. The love triangle was absurd. Just a fail all around. I like fan fiction and this reads like one of the worst ones I’ve ever read.

Gah! No Ending

Hard to rate a story that has no conclusion, no epilogue or no second book coming.

I feel cheated out of several hours.

Had there been an ending or another book coming, I probably would have rated this higher.

Not for adults

I waited for awhile to get this book since it was not an audiobook. The moment it was released I snatched it up. I love these types of story lines and this is the type of book I was in the mood for but it just did not do the trick.
If the author would take out the cussing then this book would be for children.
There is not really an ending. She just goes back to New York. Nothing really gets resolved. Where is my HEA? Where was the romance? The only thing that saves this book from being 1 star is the practical jokes the kids played on each other. I would skip this book in less you are a young teenager.

One of the worst books I’ve read

I don’t normally take the time to write reviews, but potential readers deserve a warning. Not only was the plot terribly boring and unoriginal, but the writing itself was horribly inexperienced. The book is written by a watt pad sensation and it is very clear that it is not by an talented author. There were so many grungy cliche moments I am surprised I even made it to the end. A waste of a credit and 13 hours of my life. Do not recommend.

Book is good

I enjoyed the book but I really did not enjoy the performance. The person didn’t have any diction and would draw out the last word in EVERY sentence. Maybe you can get past it but I just couldn’t.

Excellent Exceptions

This book is hard to put down. Tragedy to beauty. Walk a mile in Jackie's shoes to realize the things around you and other people's tragedies affect them too. Then, find peace once you accept the change.

A Great Read

I enjoyed reading this book it has love and loss and it's about a girl trying to find herself now that she has been displaced from everything she once knew. However, I do think the narrating voices could have been a little more distinguished and not so flat with little emotion...and as for the story while it was a really good story, I felt like there was a lot that occurred in just 18 chapters....very busy...
