Publisher's Summary

Little Jamey, 2½ years old, is placed with experienced foster carer, Cathy Glass, as an emergency.

The police and social services have no choice but to remove two-year-old Jamey from home after his mother leaves him alone all night to go out partying.

When he first arrives with foster carer Cathy Glass, he is scared, hungry and withdrawn, craving the affection he has been denied for so long. He is small for his age and unsteady on his feet–a result of being left for long periods in his cot.

Cathy and her family find Jamey very easy to love, but as he settles in and makes progress, a new threat emerges. Coronavirus and lockdown change everything.

Great read/bad mix

Great story line, I enjoyed very much. But a bit disappointed with the mix of the COVID. Kinda lost my interest there.

Touching story about fostering

This is a touching story about fostering, but there's too much talk about COVID-19.

Did not enjoy

The narrator was absolutely dreadful. Will not be listening to any more Cathy glass books. Also far too much about corona virus.

Great story.

A fantastic book as always by this author, it was interesting to read how Cathy and her family coped with fostering in the pandemic. Jamie was a wonderful child and got the outcome that he deserved. A sad story of neglect that Jamie had to suffer but thankfully Cathy was able to help him which is a huge relief.

NARRATOR AWFUL

The story is good, but the narrator is awful and so off-putting its really difficult to listen to. Her voices she puts on for certain people in the book is terrible and sounds like something out of a kids show like balamory or the tweenies, it dosent feel like an adults book. for example Paula is a woman working an adult job and the voice she uses for her is just ridiculous. Not going to continue listening to these books on audible, that that's the only reason i got audible in the first place. not great.

Was good but not the best

I’ve read nearly all of Cathy’s books and love them. Unfortunately I felt like this one was way too much about covid, I know that this was all new when she wrote the story but listening to the book years after the start of covid was a bit boring, especially when she went into minor details about it all. I wish she focused more on the story of Jamey.

A lot about COVID!

So I’ve read all of Cathy’s books and loved them all! sadly here in New Zealand we have COVID everywhere at present, for the first time. It feels very stressful indeed. Reading is often an escape, but I have had to have brakes from reading , too much COVID!! And today my 14 year old tested positive! Wish me luck 🍀
