Publisher's Summary

In this candid autobiography, Cherie Currie - the original lead singer of '70s teenage all-girl rock band The Runaways - powerfully recounts her years in the band, her friendship with guitarist Joan Jett, and her struggle with drugs.

An intense, behind-the-scenes look at rock music in the gritty, post-glam era, Neon Angel is a must-listen for anyone whose heart beats to the rhythm of David Bowie, Suzi Quatro, Nick Gilder, and the Sex Pistols, and for every fan of the movie it inspired: The Runaways, starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart as Cherie Currie and Joan Jett.

couldn't finish

Maybe this is a great book. i won't know because I won't be able to finish it. I couldn't stand the narration. it sounds really whiney. I respect the authors right to her feelings regarding the awful things she went through but, I couldn't listen to the tone of the narration.

Love her but...

She whined the whole time she read it. I love Cherie, but they needed a professional narrator.

Why do I read the reviews only to ignore them??!!

So I read the reviews that very clearly stated that the narrative style of the author was too difficult to listen to the entire book. I even listened to the sample to see if I thought it would be an issue for me. A few times with audio books, the narration isn't great, but the story is good enough to overlook it. Not here though. I think I'll eventually purchase this book in paperback because I think I'd really like the story. I have nothing but respect for the author here, but she's just not a good narrator. We can't be good at everything right? In the parts of the story where she was obviously experiencing some heavy emotions, she should've let the story speak for itself. She was overly dramatic and it was painful to listen to her. Disappointed ☹️

wow!

you think you know their story because they were so famous but Cherie does such an amazing job narrating her own work that now I really feel like I've gotten to know, not just her, but all about that time.

Outstanding listen.

This book is not one that I would normally read but a friend of mine is friends with the author so I gave it a shot and I have to say it was absolutely riveting. Thank you so much for sharing your life experience with us. You are an inspiration and a inspiration and a great human being.
