Publisher's Summary
Kay’s life is pretty boring. She goes to school, spends quiet evenings at home with her foster mom, and has the occasional brush with mischief thanks to her best and only friend Will. But everything is about to change.
One night, Kay tags along on another one of Will’s adventures, and they both end up recruited by a talking fox to become Netherjacks, protectors of all the worlds. Once they arrive at the training academy, though, Will is paired with a legendary Netherwing mount and quickly rises in the trainee ranks, leaving Kay behind with barely a glance.
Kay has a decision to make - go home, and forget all about Netherjacks and Will, or stay and throw herself into training. With the help of her squadronmates and her Netherwing Nax, Kay just might discover that she’s more than just Will’s friend - she could be a leader. A hero. A Netherjack.
And the world will need her skills when a long-dormant enemy returns to wreak havoc on the whole universe…

Story
It’s two months before Amelia’s big audition for the Mystwick School of Musicraft. If she gets in, she will learn to spin music into powerful magic - but her Gran has one last-ditch plan to persuade her out of it: sports camp. A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. By the end of day one, she’s puked her guts out in track, gotten a black eye in no-contact flag football, and firmly established herself as the Least Valuable Player at camp.

My name is Chase Cooper, and I'm a 6th grade ninja. It's my first day at a different school and the only person I know is my cousin, Zoe (but she might be a little too cool for me). I was just another scrawny kid until a group of ninjas recruited me into their clan. It was a world of trouble I wasn't prepared for, which is why I kept this diary (or "chronicle" as my dad would call it) - to warn other kids about the dangers of becoming a ninja. They say history is destined to repeat itself...well, not if I can help it.

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Loved it!
I must confess that I'm in my 30's and I still really enjoyed this audiobook. Bahni Turpin is an excellent narrator. She voices the various characters well; the voices blend well with how I envision the characters in my head.
I love this world that Django Wexler had created. I think this book has potential to become a wonderful series. The characters are likable and interesting. I am looking forward to the next audiobook!

Django Wexler is a talent that can create a young people’s story that speaks a few good truths to the ‘adult’ crowd. Bahni Turpin makes it all come to life so everyone enjoys the book. Will wait impatiently for the next installment. (The heroine has blood in her eye and revenge in her heart.)

More than I had expected!
The premise of this story seemed interesting, but a little worn out, and it all felt a little rushed in the very beginning. however I was pleasantly surprised and glad I gave it a chance. memories of Eragon and even a little Harry potter with the school format come to mind when I think of similar stories.

Unrelatable Main Hero
I wanted to really like this story, but I have a few concerns.
The world and setting, while unique feels shallow and uninspiring,
The characters all are plucked out of medieval settings, made to fit with no deeper rooted history other than a brief society mention.
The Netherwings all are animals seen on Earth, but can fly, wings or no wings.
For being a setting with many diverse humanoid characters, the Netherwings leaves far too little to the imagination.
And now the worst offender, mainly Kai, and the broken relationship with Will.
Will and Kai were said to have been best friends all their life, but not at one point has Will shown any affection towards his friend, he was even ready to kick Kai out of his life at the first moment he could, and even later deliberately tried to kill her, showing no remorse at all, as well as no redeeming qualities.
I was waiting time and time again for Kai to slap Will across the face to snap some sense into him, or at the very least accept that Will as a lost cause, and no longer a friend to her.
But instead, Kai in spite of the hardship, develops Stockholm Syndrome for Will's abuse, naively thinking she can only change his mind if she beats him at the only thing he has set his life out to do.
What kind of backwards mentality is that? Steal a man's only pride and expect them still to want to be friends?
This part infuriated me so much.
In conclusion: This story has a great world and premise, but it misses the mark. In fact it feels like RWBY by RoosterTeeth, but with flying mounts.
But at least RWBY's world has a much deeper lore than you'll find here.

Beautiful coming of age story
This book really took me by surprise, in the best way possible. I wasn’t sure if I had enough invested interest in the characters K and Will. I soon came to love and root for the protagonist K. Whilst I never warmed to Will even after his redemption at the end, I absolutely fell in love with K’s group of wonderfully diverse and intriguing friends. The story managed to mix magic and adventure with modern day life seamlessly. At its heart this story was very much about the development of the characters and their relationships with one another. I also love that this is the type of book that is relevant and enjoyable for young to old. I am eagerly awaiting a sequel.
