Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family but doubts he can last much longer.

Publisher's Summary
The “enchanting” (Publishers Weekly) Jane Jameson series is back with a new paranormal romantic comedy about a werewolf yearning to find her own place in the world and the group of admittedly unique vampires who help her find love.
Tylene McClaine, black sheep of the McClaine Half Moon Hollow werewolf pack, has spent a lifetime blocking out the criticisms of her boisterous pack. They say she’s too bookish, too sarcastic, and worst of all, too picky when it comes to finding a nice werewolf boy and settling down.
But when she meets vampire and Half Moon Hollow music teacher Alex Bonfils, Tylene starts to wonder if she could create the life she’s always wanted. She takes every precaution to meet her sexy vamp in secret, but when a vandal around town starts targeting vampire businesses, she fears her family might have found her out. When the damage in town escalates, Tylene and Alex join forces with Jane Jameson, Dick Cheney, and the whole vampire gang to find the culprit and save Half Moon Hollow before it’s too late!

Molly’s back in Half Moon Hollow
Setting: Half Moon Hollow, Kentucky Contemporary to 2020
Genre: paranormal rom-com
Tylene (AKA Ty) McClaine of the McClaine Pack is a web designer who has to escape to the library to get quiet, uninterrupted time to work on projects for her clients. At home, she is subject to interruptions of all kinds, including assignments to work in the businesses of various Pack members. But worst of all is the Never ending advice and machinations of her mother and other women of the pack. Blind dates. Ugly dresses that her relatives think are sexy and will help her land a mate. Thing is, Ty doesn’t want a mate. She doesn’t even want to live on Pack land. But the rules are, you have to live at home until you marry. She has seen how subservient her mother is, not just to her father, but to every woman in the pack. The background about that; when Tylene’s father Tyler, the oldest son of the Pack Alpha was a young adult, he took off to explore the world. A few years later he came back with a mate and baby in tow to find his younger brother Lonnie firmly in place as Pack Alpha. Ty was raised in a single wide out on the outskirts of Pack lands, listening to her father gripe about how they should be living in the Alpha’s house, and how his rightful place was stolen from him. Watching her mother cringe and cast her eyes down before the other women. She was raised believing that the Alpha thought her family were second class. So there’s Tylene, wanting to remain single, and wanting desperately to move to an apartment of her own in town, but she’s afraid to bring up either subject with her mom and dad.
Alex is a 600 year old vampire who moved to Half Moon Hollow to be close to his two best friends, Cal and Nik (see The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires and The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire). He now teaches music (specifically string instruments) to the children of the Hollow, including the 8 year old twins of Ty’s cousin Jolene and her husband Zeb Lavelle (see Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs and Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men). Alex met Ty at the library and wants to further the acquaintance, but she knows he would not be acceptable to the Pack. Because, you know, vampire.
One night Ty takes the twins to their music lesson and sees their talented and gorgeous instructor —Alex Bonfils. They end up agreeing to meet. And meet again. And again. Their attraction grows with each meeting. Meanwhile, the Pack women keep trying to set her up on blind dates. And also, vampire-owned homes and businesses are being targeted by vandal/s, and Ty thinks members of the Pack might be involved.
Quite frankly, I found the plot to this Half Moon Hollow entry a bit scattered. Of course there’s the romance between Ty and Alex. Also the tension of Ty’s relationship with her parents and the Pack
women who keep setting her up on blind dates. Not to mention the mystery of the vandalism in the vampire community. It just seems to me that there isn’t enough given to each facet of the story. Ty and Alex are interesting, but there is so much time given to established series characters the the h/H have little room to grow. What I’m saying here is that it could have benefitted from the addition of a couple more chapters to flush things out a bit. The witty dialogue is, as usual, the strongest feature of the book. I can always count on laughing when I read a Molly Harper novel.
I do have a couple of quibbles though.
I had a problem with Harper having Alex pronounce Louisville wrong. He’s French. He speaks with a French accent. He wouldn’t pronounce the S for the same reason the locals don’t. It was named in honor of the French King, Louis XVI.
And then there’s the Dick Cheney gag. At what point will it no longer be funny? I am sure that, even with explanation about his name being the same as George W. Bush’s Vice President, many younger readers won’t “get” it that the V. P. Dick Cheney was not the original blood sucker. I think many novels end up being dated by political, pop culture and tech references that are no longer germane after a few years. It’s like reading Gulliver’s Travels — you might enjoy it, but not as much as you would have if you had lived in the society Jonathan Swift was satirizing.
Anyhoo...
This is a solid high average leveraged to a 4 star read by the excellent narration of Amanda Ronconi.

Another Delightful Visit
As with every Half-Moon Hollow story, I was so excited to read it,that I couldn’t put it down, and yet, I dreaded reaching the end. Ms. Harper does a good job introducing new characters & developing new plot lines, while tying in some familiar characters. It’s like a visit with some favorites cousins one hasn’t seen in a few months. Ms. Ronconi does her usual FABULOUS job of narration. If this is your first introduction to Half-Moon Hollow, congratulations- you’ve struck gold! Read the rest of the series - you’ll love it.

Ok listen. Little disappointed.
I tried to like this story. I usually enjoy this author, by the time I was 3/4 of the way through this listen, I wanted to end the story. Tylene was just pitiful. The first couple auntie interventions were humorous, after that, not so much. Don’t waste your credit on this one.

I wanted to love it more
When I’m ready to go on a holiday, Molly Harper is my author. She consistently delivers a delightful reprieve from everyday life, plot twists and witty banter- what more could you ask for in a beach book?
Unfortunately this particular book was a bit light on character development and plot. So many missed opportunities to dig deeper!!!
I was disappointed, but still mildly amused so I’m not saying don’t get this one- but lower your expectations.
Amanda Ronconi is one of my favorite narrators, and as has been mentioned in other reviews- does her usual exemplary work up until Alex. That is NOT a French accent, and as such was distracting (ok, it drove me nuts).
Bottom line, if you’re a fan, you’ll want this one too. It’s not the quality of previous books in this series, but has amusing moments.

A little disappointed
Because this author is now maybe giving up under the influence of publishers, there are a lot of details missing I feel. Comparison to her previous books, it seems like she’s rushing through her ideas to please the publishers. I love her imagination and I wish she would make her books as long as she would like as before.

The women in Molly's stories spiral into idiocy
Won't write any spoilers but WILL ask WHY the women in Molly's books consistently spiral into utter, immature, myopic stupidity. It's annoying. It's not romantic. It's just - irritating. At some point, in every book, I find myself rolling my eyes (hard) and hoping they'll end up with bad perms or overplucked eyebrows or periodontal disease. Nothing permanent; just something to deflect their energy away from acting like 12-year-olds and deflect my energy away from wanting to poke them in the eye. Sigh...
That said, I think the books are fun. I like Molly's writing and imagination. I'm a fan - except for that thing about the women behaving badly (and not in a fun way).

Good- expected more laughs but fun overall
I expected a funnier book based on reviews for this author (not necessarily this book itself but the author is supposedly very funny). I have to admit I cracked a few smiles, giggled a few times but overall, I didn't really feel like it was so funny. So I think my expectations were off.
That said, the characters were generally fun. Tylene is a werewolf who has to live up to certain expectations (I'm guessing that the expectations were even more fully fleshed out in prior stories given the mention of other couples but it wasn't something that was unclear in this story either). Alex is a vampire who is also a music teacher. They meet, fall in love pretty quickly and then have to handle not just her family dynamics because they don't believe in werewolf/vampire coupling, but also someone who is attacking vampire businesses. So there is a lot happening and it was fun to be a part of the craziness of Half-moon Hollow.
I actually bought the audiobook and listened to that rather than reading the ebook. Overall, Amanda Ronconi did a great job, affecting accents when called for and playing multiple characters. I enjoyed her narration.

Molly Harper has given me some real laughs over the years! The Nice Girls series are absolutely hilarious. And there are some real gems in HHH, sadly though this isn't one of them. That is not to say that it is a bad book. But that it simply doesn't have any spark. The villains are not really villainous, the romance seems to come out of nothing but a scent and has little to no really depth developing through the book. As it it one of her shorter offerings I am not surprised, but I kept wanting the book to actually have some punch moments. And it just didn't, they were always descelated anticlimactically. One could all this an anti fairytale, where the princess saved herself, but what that means is that none of the other characters meant anything. I love Molly's previous works. And I wanted to love this. Sadly I just didn't.
Amanda Ronconi's narration is great as ever.

Cosy vampire romances are back
Wven though I was slightly annoyed at how obvious the villain was and that there was no twist at the end, the main characters are great and it always warms my heart to read Dick Cheney comebacks. The narrator is great!

Why is it over??
I have been bringing this series since the beginning of the year. Even though it is probably good that I can now also read something else.
I am still sad it is over (for now).
I'm definitely looking forward to other series in the future!
And I'm he meantime I might dip into bother series by Molly Harper 😉

It's ok...but
The same story told with new faces... a very short story... where very little actually happens.
This feels like the bones of a good idea but so did the last 4 Halfmoon Hollow story's as they followed nearly the exact same plot.
Quirky outsider girl meets lonely creature of the night, random act of dramatic tension shows how much they need each other, book ends, that's literally it.
Nothing really to recommend this book unless you are a Molly Harper completionist. Read some of her more creative stuff and hope she gets over her Halfmoon Hollow writer's block.

The bell had been rung to many times.
I love this series, but I was really hoping for a different story it has been the same style for almost every new character introduced. it's a great formula, but getting a bit tired.
