Book 2 in a masterful what-if series in which global catastrophe puts a family’s very survival at risk - and both reveals the darkness in human hearts and lights the way to restoration.

Survival has become a lifestyle, and technology is a thing of the past as the Branning family learns that the power outage is worldwide. Everyone is desperate.

When two young thieves break into the Brannings’ home and clean out the food in their pantry, Jeff Branning tracks them to a filthy apartment and discovers a family of children living alone, stealing to stay alive. Where is their mother? The search for answers uncovers a trail of desperation and murder...and for the Brannings, a powerful new purpose that can transform their entire community - and above all, themselves. But how will they do what’s right when so much is going wrong?

Great Story, Powerful Message

I enjoyed this book even more than the first one. I like the different narrator better, and I thought the story was much more emotionally gripping. I was also challenged by the message, and spent some time soul searching about how I would react in similar circumstances. Christian fiction at it's best!

Surviving without Electricity

This is the second book in a series. A pulsar has somehow affected all power on the planet Earth and every electronic device is rendered useless. The book follows the continuing struggle of a family and the surrounding community, how they survive and keep their sanity. Very intriguing subject.

Wonderful Christian Fiction

Thank you Terri Blackstock for showing the world that fiction can be interesting and exciting and still include Christian values. I cannot wait to hear the next book!

A Let down

The plot synopsis does not state this is an inspirational (Christian) novel, or that this is a sequel. I read the occasional Christian novel but oftentitmes they are too simplistic and preachy. I was looking for sci-fi, and I don't particularly care for this. It might be nice for the kiddies to read, 'tho. Again, this is book 2 in a series so I suggest you read them in order.

Not impressed

I have other Blackstock books, and have enjoyed them more than this one. I'm a Christian, and I seek out novels that don't have alot of explicit sex and violence. I listened to the first chapter of this book and the story line just did not hold my interest.

Liked it.

I enjoyed this book, even though I really wanted to choke one particular character(no spoilers). I think many of us would be whinny and unappreciative, when put in similar circumstances. Overall a pretty good book and series.

More religious sopa opera than survival story

This book was more of a christian commentary / social soap opera than a survival story. The Description you read is misleading, the world events and survival side of the story are just a backdrop for the preaching, praying and "religious people are better" message. I had to force myself to continue listening in hopes that the survival side of the story would gradually take over, but it heads the other direction. If you aren't looking for a christian cheer-leading drama then don't buy this book!

Inspiring and Timely

Terri Blackstock is one of my favorite authors, because she writes with God at the center of her stories. I do not have to worry about someone walking in and hearing the audio book as there is no cursing, no profanity, no graphic sexual scenes. I like Susie Breck's narration much better than the man who did the prequel to this book, my only request is that there be a longer pause between chapters.
With all that is happening today regarding our electric grid and hackers, it is very easy to believe that these events could be unfolding at any time. I do not want this to be spoiler, so I will not give specifics, but will say that the series is well worth the price and the time invested. I love that the characters are all very real in that they are not cardboard Christians nor goodie-2-shoes. The emotions are real, the angst is real, and the solutions are ones I would hope to achieve if I were faced with similar circumstances.
When I was in the USAF, I learned about the threat an EMP can cause to our infrastructure, so the actual cause of the outages was new to me. I love a book that stretches my knowledge, encourages me to learn more, and still does not offend my sensibilities. This is such a book. I highly recommend it.
