Great story

Not only was this a great book, but the narrator had me laughing and really enjoying this book even more then if I was reading it on my own! I definitely recommend!

it's ok

The plot is similar to the Crossbreed series but it's different enough to be original. The story is slow and I found myself skipping ahead a few times because the story stumbles or the dialogue is annoying. I might get the next one just to see if the book improves.

ALL of Annie Anderson's books are amazing. Seriously, the characters and worlds she builds are so interesting. You can't help but want more of it all. the narrator on all her books is also fabulous. 10/10 recommend every single book! This is the only author where I bought every single book of theirs.

Funny and exciting! I listen to Audible at night and have a tendency to fall asleep while being read to, but not this book! Kept me awake in a good way.

I can't wait for book two!

Cassandra Parker is an excellent narrator. I adore how she brings Annie's characters to life.

I mean, who thinks waking up at the foot of their own grave is cool? Oh, and then learning they're some kind of vampire but not? Yeah, that sucks. Quite literally.
But, Sloane makes the best of it, and let me tell you, she lit those pages on fire! 🔥🔥🔥
I must say, Rogue Ethereal is my favorite series' of Annie's, but Sloane? Well, she's gonna give Max a run for her money!
This chick is tough as nails, sees past her pain, and seeks vengeance against those who do harm. And the side budding romance with the brooding male hotness? This, I can't wait to see where it leads. The entire team had me laughing at one point or another, but the empath--I died like ten times over from her wit, sarcasm, and snarky remarks.🤣 I felt for her, too. All of them. Everyone on the Night Watch has a story...and not at all pleasant. This book is beyond 5 stars!!!

Another winner!!

Let me just say this first... SLOAN IS MY SPIRIRT ANIMAL! Legit, this bish is a total badarsed lady.

As with any Annie Anderson book I got a whole gambit of emotions while reading. I laughed, worried and I will be honest, the cracker had me teary eyed at a point. I loved every single solitary word of this story. It's one of my faves for sure. The characters grow on you. Even though... (coughs) I wanted to punt one of them into next week. for a bit, he redeemed himself. haha.

Each new character you meet in this story the bubble of fun, conspiracy and balance creeps in. Just when you think the book is going one way, it goes another. You think left, it goes right. Which, let's be honest, that makes for a darn good story. The badassedness of each character lends to the stability of the group which in turn makes the developments of the story form into a better book. The underlying issue, the why and how Sloane is who and where she is, takes you on an emotional rollercoaster of ups and downs. By the time that train slides into home you are ready to hug her, put her in your pocket and do all you can to keep her safe. In the end, that's the only way she may survive what's happening around her.

I can not wait to see what Sloan, Bastian and the rest of the crew get up to next. Something tells me that its going to raise a few roofs and bring them back down on someone's head.

Snarky

Normally I enjoy a snarky heroine but Sloan just seemed to irritate me. I didn’t really develop any empathy with her, so much so, that I’m not interested in pursuing the series. I guess I’ll never know who is the bad guy but really don’t care. Having said that, this could be good for some easy light reading.

Good story. Narrator, ugh!

This is a good story with an interesting take on urban fiction, but the first few chapters are R U I N E D by the narrator’s one-note sarcastic, snarky delivery. For example, the main character wakes up on her own grave (near her parents new graves) with no memory of how she or they died, yet the narrator chose sarcasm and snark as the only seeming expression of emotion for several chapters.
It took me several tries to get through those chapters. Luckily she finally expanded her breadth of emotive powers and gave an at-times actually impressive performance. I can’t give her more than 2 stars though, because her narration will keep me from buying the next book(s) in the series. Too bad.

Ok story, Awful narration for first half

The story is interesting and well written, although similar to other storylines I have read.
The problem lies with the narrator. For the first half of the book, she is so overflowing with snark and sarcasm that I found the main character repellent. She constantly came across as a petulant teenager - which she is not. Then it instantly changed in Chapter 13 and she was the soul of pathos, with almost zero snark. ????! Other than this major flaw, the narrator has excellent pacing, delivery and a variety of ‘voices’ for different characters.
