Story
In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don't say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.

Story
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times best seller
Now a Hulu original series
From the number one New York Times best-selling author of Big Little Lies.
"Narrator Caroline Lee's animated performance brings listeners along as the story changes perspective.... Listeners will be hooked as the retreat begins to unravel." (AudioFile Magazine)
Could 10 days at a health resort really change you forever? In Liane Moriarty’s latest audiobook, nine perfect strangers are about to find out....
Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amid all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these 10 days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next 10 days are going to be.
Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person who intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House.
Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer - or should she run while she still can?
It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.
Combining all of the hallmarks that have made her audiobooks a go-to for any listener looking for wickedly smart, propulsive fiction that will make you laugh and gasp, Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers once again shows why she is a master of her craft.
Critic Reviews
"A deeply satisfying thriller. Moriarty delivers yet another surefire winner." (Publishers Weekly)
"The interwoven stories of a group of guests at a health resort in Southeast Australia are delightfully narrated by Melbourne performer Caroline Lee, who never falters in her characterizations of this varied cast of characters and who works in concert with the author to imbue them with vivid personalities and intriguing interactions." (SoundCommentary)

Seriously Disappointed
I expected so much more from this author - couldn't wait to listen and become absorbed in another suspenseful story. This was mostly fluff and very little suspense. I could well have done without the 16 hours I put into this and listened to something with some grit or substance. Sorry, 2 stars was the best I could do.

LOVE LIANE MORIARTY, HATED THIS BOOK...
Combining every cliche about spas and wellness and the folks who frequent them, this so-called thriller turned out to be a ridiculously LONG and ultimately turgid read. It started with zip, as the characters were introduced, but ended with 48 hours of imposed fasting (duh) and incredible stupidity. The denouement was just dumb. SAD that I wasted 16+ hours on an unlovely, unlovable book about people I could not care very much about.
INSTEAD, read Liane Moriarty's incredible book "The Husband's Secret" for expert plotting, very well drawn and relatable characters, and excitement to the last compelling page.

Everyone Has Already Said It...
And I wish I would have listened. The story itself is just okay. The narration is painful! I sped it up to 1.25x, but it was still very distracting and hard to get through. She ends many of the sentences with that question tone - and there isn't much of a distinction between characters. I really had to bite down and power through this one. I shouldn't have. Hoping the narration is retouched in the future - because it's pretty terrible.

Boring
This book took a long time to go nowhere. I thought it was funny that one of her characters made a judgement against a book she was reading in the story “too many main characters” I laughed at that. It honestly sounded like she was making fun of herself, but that can’t be. The climax was short lived. The narrator did a horrible job - sometimes I almost couldn’t tell if she was purposely mixing accents or if she was losing the accent she was trying to have.

Perhaps she accidentally published the draft?
This book was a supreme letdown and I am pretty positive we read the draft! The potential was there but the storyline was disjointed and random thoughts were thrown in at various points and seemed like their primary function was just to lengthen pages. It seemed like the author couldn’t quite figure out what type of book she was writing or where she wanted to go with the character development and plot, and finally just threw something together. Like “oooh this sounds interesting maybe I should write that! And then ooh this too, let’s put that here! And oh I just remembered I wanted to write that let’s add it all the way at the end!” I started and stopped this book four times before I finally made it all through because of how poorly connected all the details were. Every time I thought “wow this is about to get good” some ridiculous thought was entered and the climax fell flat.
As for the narrator I didn’t think it was as horrible as the others said and to test that idea I also read the book in paper. The story sucks and the narrator tried to save it. The only irritating thing about the narration to me was that she ended each sentence in an up-note, like the sentence was a question rather than a statement. I agree the reading could have been sped up because doing so would have made the book sound more interesting but again if you are really paying attention to the development of the story rather than a feeling of excitement from rapidly read details, then you’ll be able to hear through the speed and realize that the book simply missed its mark.

Disappointed
I tried, I really did. I patiently listened while each of these 9 annoying strangers were introduced. I endured their back stories. I even endured the spa owner's back story. And I deserve a medal for enduring each person's LSD (yes...LSD) induced journey to self-discovery. But when they emerged from that and I was STILL only half-way through I just couldn't take it any more. I hate to return books after investing that much time into them, but I decided to NOT waste any more time. And I came to that self-discovery without the aid of LSD.

Horrible terrible experience full of grotesque cliches and dreadful plot. So bad I want my money back and wish that I could charge for my time.
