Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Story
Narcissistic relationships are problematic because the partner often is clueless as to the character of the person he/she is dealing. And what is even more baffling is the addiction bond the victims form with narcissistic abusers. Although narcissists are remarkable for their lack of empathy, they have enough awareness of the subjective emotional states of others to use this to engage in psychological manipulation and mind control.

A tiresome listen
This audio book was tiresome, confusing and a struggle to listen to. The narrators voice was monotone. The book also included a lot of belief in God which was not for me.
