Story
The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived. Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal".

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
“The apocalypse sucks, man.”
On June 23, 2010, in every country across the globe, the dead inexplicably awaken with murderous resolve. For the first days, Erin Locke - Lockey to her friends - survives alone as society collapses in England with shocking speed.
With her trademark snarky sense of humor, goofy insights, and can-do attitude, she chronicles her early adventures in a journal to keep her spirits high and sanity intact, until she befriends retired Royal Marine veteran Nate Carter, and the unlikely duo find themselves a place they can call home.
Her newfound security is threatened by an encounter with other survivors that ends in blood, and a vengeful hunt by the dead man’s brother begins. After skirmishes with the self-styled feudal lord of their new lawless existence, the pair learn they are the only chance of salvation for innocents enslaved by the aspiring warlord and are forced to act for more than their own survival.
There are no heroes left, so the captives’ only hope are one fast-talking, foul-mouthed woman and one deadly, middle-aged ex-marine.
Set in the world of Chris Philbrook’s best-selling zombie apocalypse, Adrian’s Undead Diary, No More Heroes opens the world up, illuminating the nightmare of the United Kingdom, and bringing its heroes into the light.
Edited by Chris Philbrook, with an introductory foreword by him as well.

I love zombie fiction, and really love Adrian's Undead Diary, so I thought I'd try this book from the AUD world. I have been laughing out loud and giving audible (get it... Audible?) groans. This series is going to be another one where I curse the author for not pumping out sequels fast enough.

A great new addition to the world of AUD
I think the title pretty much sums it up. I read the book when it released and absolutely loved it. Lockey is the perfect amount of action, sass, and potty human.
Danielle Cohen sounds exactly like how I imagined Lockey would sound and did an amazing job narrating.
it all combines into an amazing and entertaining experience and I can't wait for more.

Pleasantly surprised
I am a big AUD fan and while I do one day hope to spawn some awesome fan fiction that delights the masses, I can sometimes be put off by them. I won’t lie I’m crotchety that way. When I fall in love with something I fall hard and I fell hard and fast for Adrian. So... I’m 9 books in to AUD and I’ve read most of the synopsis for books 10-12 and I was like hmmm...
So knowing what I knew I let lying dogs lye (or lay) or whatever you get my drift. I felt like 9 books was a good run, but after a few days I felt the itch and I needed more and this book came up. I listened to the sample and thought “NO” I just knew it would be the same...
Dear Reader... (see what I did there) I couldn’t have been more right!... and more wrong... okay, okay, so Chris Philbrook has done the one thing many zombie TV shows won’t and that’s commit to the how and literally he lays out this beautiful foundation that Carl Meadows build on and wow! Just wow!
First the narration was amazing and I loved how Danielle captures the true spirit of Lockey ( pronounced Lucky for us yanks). Not to mention all the other merry band of folks that we get introduced to on this ride.
So the book! It was well written with an easy and predictable story line that made sharp turns just when you thought you’d figured it all out. I loved falling into that sense of complacency only to have Carl throw just a utter emotional fast ball that hits you right between the eyes. This book is laugh-out-loud funny and you will immediately find out why Lockey and Nate are the UK’s Adrian and Abby.
When I finished the book I immediately went to Amazon to see if there was a second book! There is and I can’t wait. Don’t miss out on amazing find. Read this today!

This book is full of comedic vulgarity but it gets deeper than than. I was truly surprised by the depth, and twists of this story and characters. I fell in love with the two main characters pretty quickly and the action was electric. I’m rushing to purchase the next book in the series now!

Not what you expect from the opening!
This book starts with a hyperactive explosion of hilarity and profanity, and while the character of Lockey never loses that humour, as the book continues the character arcs of Erin and Nate really shine through. As you advance through the story, it's clear that this "zany" opening is just her coping mechanism to keep her spirits up while she's surviving on her own; remember, it's a character's journal, not a third person narrated story. The MC even admits later on when she's calmer that "she must have appeared like she was on drugs in those first entries." Once she meets the implacable Nate, that "zany" starts getting rounded off and you get to meet the intelligent woman she is, paired with a deep sense of right and wrong, and the surrogate father/daughter relationship that develops between Erin and Nate really brings the best out of her. She's impulsive, emotional, and deeply ideological, while Nate is stoic, logical, and the absolute perfect foil to complement Erin.
This isn't just as simple as a horror comedy so don't be put off by the crazy opening... stick with it, because it's a human story of the fall told through the eyes of a young woman - possessed of that powerful sense of right and wrong - telling her story with her own unique style, and trying to hold on to the light in a world gone dark. It's a story of people trying to be human, in an inhuman world. Danielle's narration is amazing, really infusing Lockey with that energy she possesses, but also brings all the supporting cast to life in their interactions, really defining the main players with distinct character. All the characters have depth, and could easily be real people, with the main players genuinely evolving and changing throughout the story, without ever losing who they were before. The "zany" Erin that begins the tale isn't the same resolved and ideological Erin that ends it, as the apocalypse takes little pieces from her with its darkness and only forces her to stand by that sense of right and wrong all the more.
This isn't some average zombie-virus-gore story . It's an action-comedy-horror-drama with the full range of emotion from laughter, to dread, to heartbreaking tragedy, all told through the eyes of one young woman who just wants the world to be better. Give it a shot, but expect profanity; Lockey is a product of her environment (coming from a hard background in the care system) so if you don't like hearing swear words.... you have been warned. It's just who she is, but even that gets rounded off as the story goes on.

I'm not usually a zompoc genre fan but along with AUD this is far from your standard book. I absolutely loved every minute. The characters are incredibly likeable and human. Lockey is just a wonderful creation with her take on situations being absolute genius. I have laughed loudly, cried, been horrified and couldn't wait for my next spare moment to put it on. Loved it, loved it all!
OK, so... I do not do overboard book reviews, like ever, not like this when for me it is more then 5 Stars even. But this was SO GOOD! From the slang, to local references, to attitudes, it just hit the spot perfectly! I enjoyed it so much and hope this Series will continue, as being in this Adrian Universe but in the UK and with a female POV was just AWESOME! Truly a perfect book to finish of my reading year with... loved it, loved it all!

A great addition...
A great addition to the AUD world, and a look at a different part of the world while Adrian and company are off gathering and surviving on the far side of the globe!

A fantastic story, wonderfully read!
The apocalypse sucks, but you know what doesn't? This book! It's got humour, horror and brilliant characters, all brought to life by the soothing voice of Danielle Cohen. I enjoyed every moment of it.

Lockey Lives
Having read the paperback i thought i knew what Lockey sounded like, I was wrong. Danielle brought a firey emotion that lifted the characterisation to another level. Bring on the second Audio book.
