Publisher's Summary

In this exhilarating thriller from four million copy bestselling author Mark Edwards, Aidan’s spent years looking for his sister. Will he ever find her?

Two years ago, on a trip to Seattle to visit her brother Aidan, fifteen-year-old Scarlett vanished into thin air. After years of false leads and dead ends, Aidan has almost given up hope. But then a woman sees a girl running for her life across a forest clearing in Northern California. She is convinced the girl is the missing Scarlett. But could it really be her?

Heading south, Aidan finds a fire-ravaged town covered in missing-teenager posters. The locals seem afraid, the police won’t answer any questions and it looks like another dead end—until a chance meeting with returned local Lana gives Aidan his first clue. But as they piece together what happened, Lana and Aidan make deadly enemies. Enemies willing to do anything to silence them.

Only one thing matters now: finding Scarlett—even if it kills him.

Boring..

I'm done at 47%. I don't care to read about climate change and I don't care who is vegan. That's almost as bad as authors mentioning about Covid and "where's your mask?' Just give me a good mystery and never mind all that BS.

I'm sure there no sex but the F-bomb was used 36 times.

As for the narration: Will M. Watt is pretty darn boring!

My Favorite Mark Edwards Book!

Impeccable narration, truly suspenseful story, great storyline. What more can you ask for? I really liked the characters in this book. They were brought to life through Mark’s prose & Will’s lovely English accent. I just love narration by Englishmen & women, of course. Anyway, never a spoiler from me, you just have to read this one for yourself. I totally enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Say your words!!

I don’t know what is going on - if it’s for dramatic effect or what - but this narrator regularly drops the sound of different words at the end of a sentence (or says they so lightly you can barely hear it) and it’s making me crazy. He has a nice tone to his voice, but I don’t think I can listen to hours of dropped syllables. For instance, in just a few minutes: darkne for darkness, fas for fast, blackne for blackness, stop for stopped, frien for friends, eas for east, distan for distance, fay for face, fores for forest, etc etc. It’s only at the end of sentences and so odd.

Also not sure I’m interested in a politically-driven story. The world is too full of that already!

Great action packed thriller that moves you from one interesting scenario to another

Great production, excellent narration, interesting subject, unexpected twists, and lots of mystery that leaves you listening for more. If this gets a sequel I will definitely listen to it! Mark Edwards makes writing seem so easy, he so effectively illustrates an exciting investigation from both sides of the sleuths and the schemers. I always feel so inspired to write a novel when I listen to his work but just because he makes it seem easy I am certain that it is not! I don’t know how he plots these out so well and you feel extremely immersed in the scenes. Extremely talented.

I've read all of mark edwards books

This is not his best. It was okay but I had to listen on 1.5 speed bc it was so slow of a story line.

Crazy eco terrorists.

Interesting story that overall lived up to what I expected from Mark Edwards. Narration was good and easy to listen to. Hopefully there will be a follow up story.

Great story

Aidan has never given up on finding his sister, even though she’s been missing for 2yrs. When an elderly lady contacts him and says ghat she saw Scarlett from a train, Aidan goes in search. However, not everyone wants him to search for answers and soon, along with Lana…who’s searching for her brother…the pair are running for their lives. Enjoyable story.

Another Great Mark Edwards Book

I've listened to quite a few of Edwards' novels. This one drew me in right from the start. I was totally drawn in by the characters and the narration was great! This was definitely worth the credit!

Quite a story!

I’ve listened to many of Mark Edwards books and this is one of the best, if not the best. It grabs you from the first chapter and won’t let go. It moves along at fast pace. There are lots of action and enough suspense to keep the readers glued to the story. The narrator is excellent at story-telling, not reading. I like how he put feelings into his voice that makes listening seem like watching a movie. I wish it was longer, but that’s the beauty of Edwards books. He doesn’t pad them with useless details and bores the readers to death.

Horrible waste of time

Hard to believe it's written by Mark Edwards, it seems to be about a climate change cult, with a lot of preachy unsubstantiated so called 'facts'. It's exceedingly boring and barely kept my attention, I feel I should be rewarded for having finished. Should have given up on this drivel after the first few chapters.

Action thriller

An elderly woman on a train glances through the window and sees a young woman being chased across a field. She identifies the girl as Scarlett Faith, a teenager who went missing two years ago while visiting her brother Aidan in Seattle. Aidan decides to investigate.

This is a bit different to Mark Edwards usual psychological thrillers and is more of an action thriller as Aiden tries to California to find hisi sister, whilst being chased by some proper baddies! I really liked the character of Aidan but loved Lana! It is a fast, entertaining read, and I loved the climate change aspect of the plot.

I enjoyed the narration by Will M Watt.

Not his usual edge of the seat thrilling read

Sadly, I found this audiobook absolutely dreadful even though I stupidly persisted to the end The horrendous American accent didn’t help and I found the story pretty unlikely although maybe not impossible. I am so sorry as Mark’s books are amongst my favourite but this one sadly just didn’t do it for me. I hope he returns to his past successes after this.

My least favourite Mark Edwards novel

Marks weakest novel to date imo. Too much of a deviation in style. there is a lot of building up to not much. There aren't really many twists and turns like his previous novels which makes the story quite generic. if you liked his previous novels you might be quite disappointed by this one.

Time Running Out

This seems to be a departure from the usual Mark Edwards books and more like a crime caper than the thought provoking stories he writes. I think this one would be better read as a physical book than listen to an audio version as I kept having to go back to check out who was who and none of the characters really stood out to me. I guessed how it would end before I got to it, so although I got it right, I was quite disappointed.
