The inside story of the covert operation that took down the heads of ISIS

No Shadows in the Desert reveals the untold story of the behind-the-scenes fight against ISIS - one coordinated by heads of state and ultimately fought in the alleyways and open deserts of the Middle Eastern battlefield by spies and soldiers. Samuel M. Katz draws upon his sources within the global intelligence and counterterrorism community, as well as the international special operations and espionage fraternity, to tell the story of the covert campaign against ISIS by the operatives who ventured deeply and secretly into enemy territory.

In this first-ever look at the secret inner workings of an Arab secret service, Katz tells the story of Jordan’s GID, the masters of human intelligence on the espionage battlefields of the Middle East, who proved pivotal and crucial go-to allies of the CIA and America’s other intelligence agencies in the war against ISIS and the war on terror. With the revealing and intimate insight of the intelligence officers who fought ISIS, No Shadows in the Desert is a rare glimpse into how a strategic partnership helped change how terrorism is fought in the Middle East and beyond.

Simply Anti- Trump writer

Author has a good story line but cannot keep his political views out of the story. Very biased makes the reader concerned with the fact checking of the author. I believe there is a great story to tell here but it needs to be told by another author with the ability to stick to facts not his own political views.

More a story of how the Jordanian government reacted to one of their pilots getting shot down and murdered

My condolences go out to the family of the Jordanian pilot who got shot down. I thought that it was real unfortunate that the author had such a biased political opinion. He wasted no time offending half the population of America when blaming trump for everything that goes wrong politically. This book would have been a better book had he not interjected his own personal political beliefs.

Thank You Mr. Katz

Excellent Book. I am extremely grateful to the author for detail information provided on the war on ISIS. In particular, the author highlighted the efforts and leadership provided by Jordan’s Intelligence Services, and sacrifices made by many other agencies to win the war. The news clips and reports on the war on ISIS does not even come close, understandably so, to identifying the true heroes of the victory over ISIS. This book does. I highly recommend reading it.

I might try to finish it..

the book is written descriptively, but without believability. telling us what the air smelled like, not having been there, just stilted and takes away from the whole point of the story. to be fair, mr Katz did say at the beginning of the book that many facts were just "the author's opinion", but... this example of taking liberties is just one of many I suffered through today. sorry guys, hard pass.

Great read!

Everyone should give this a listen, so much more to the story than just what you hear in the news.

needs deepest review

tells a story but not the story given names in this book leading later in jobs to undermining of POTUS, have many of this author's books can understand his presentation in way he did, does need the whole story an hidden political figures not mention otherwise makes the format for further revision.

Katz Exceeds Expectations

Great read and insight in to the Jordanian GID and good reminder that good always triumphs over evil.

Inspired by actual events…

Not the most accurate history ever written, and the narrator’s mangled pronunciations don’t help. Would not buy again.

Great historical information

The narrator was tremendous. I enjoyed how the author analyzed the various intelligent organizations involved in the global hunt for terrorists. It did not take me too long to finish the book,

Plodding, detailed, informative but dull

I had high expectations of this book, but aside from the monotonous narrators voice with more than a hint of an irritating upward inflection at the end of many sentences. The author has completely left out any reference to Israel throughout which is amazing. Furthermore the laborious details of various players down to precise and often unnnrcessary detail is indicative of essentially a lack of real substance. The details of the murder of the Jordanian pilot are culled largely from widely available media accounts, the details on the payback operations are shrouded in 'classified' very scant on detail, (heaven forfend a bit of unattributed suggestions might creep in and liven up this turgid account somewhat). The psychopaths of the ISIS leadership he speculates were 'made that way' by Syrian government torture... (Give me a break!) ... No analysis of militant Islamist Ideology, at all. The political bias of the author is openly on display, he repeats unquestioningly the utterly discredited Trump - Russia gate allegations. He downplays the huge role of Russia in the destruction of ISIL in Syria.. I wouldn't bother with it, wish now I'd not persevered with it. A huge yawn made of a subject which should be rivetting.

Credit Where It's Due

Until I read (listened to) this book I had no idea of how much the Jordanian intelligence services helped win the war against ISIS. The world naturally assumed it was the CIA and the coalition military forces that did all the work, so this eye-opening account of that horrific period provides a little known aspect by giving credit to the Jordanians for their priceless and pivotal role. Another first-rate story by Samuel M. Katz and a narration of note by Sean Patrick Hopkins.

America's Epic Irak Mistake.

Compelling account of the war against ISIS, finishing with a damming indictment of Donald Trump's foreign policy.
