Tangled Up in You

Fun is the one thing Elsie Webb takes seriously. Though she'd be having a lot more of it if Haelstrom Media paid her enough to actually get out of debt. She's determined to hold out on contract negotiations for her kids' television show Fangley Heights until she gets what she deserves. There's only one problem, the head of the network just died and left her future more uncertain than ever.

Forty-eight hours and one funeral—that's all Jones Haelstrom has to get through before she can return to her life in LA that's as ordered and sparse as an IKEA showroom. When she steps in as CEO of her father's media company, Elsie Webb is her first problem to deal with. Elsie ends up challenging Jones in ways she never could have predicted, starting with an attraction neither can avoid.

As their attraction teeters on the edge of something more both agree to keep it casual. A no-strings agreement and disclosure to HR should be enough to keep things between Jones and Elsie from getting tangled, right?

Contains mature themes.

Moves... Very.... Slowly

A very nice, quirky story with an interesting plotline and likeable characters; so why just three stars? Something happens, time elapsed twenty seconds, what comes next is five or six minutes of cogitation, rumination, and or rationalization. By the time I was an hour into listening I had a finger on the skip ahead indicator at all times. Granted that most of us overthink life and spend way too much time ruminating about roads not taken, that doesn't mean that we want to read/listen a hike through an Appalachian Trail length synopsis of others. Otherwise I really liked the story and if the author can put the focus more on actual events and less on inner monologues I would enjoy listening to her next effort.

So woke, but not cringy…

This was a really cute story, expertly narrated by the legendary Abby Craden.

There’s a fair amount of wokeness, including a character with a.”they”pronoun… I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but referring to a single person as “they” can be disorienting for us Gen Z/Boomer types.

The writing was very witty… I found myself laughing out loud several times. Definitely a recommended listen.

Quirky but too preachy

Story was a bit long. The quirkiness of the characters was a plus. The author needs to massage her stories more.

I loved everything about this audiobook!

It's fun without being silly, sweet without being saccharine and deceptively deep without being heavy. The main characters Elsie Webb and Jones Haelstrom are interesting, admirable, occasionally imperfect and so likable (puppeteer Elsie especially so!) The story is well written and edited. The secondary characters are strong - including Avery, the non-binary best friend and occasional conscience of Elsie. I appreciated their relationship and interactions. There's also a great kid in Jones' little brother Bentley, who worms his way into our hearts just as he does his big sister's and Elsie's.

While I really enjoyed Must Love Silence, I felt like this was a book that Bexley was born to write. Her humor, compassion and intelligence is on full display and I found myself smiling throughout. Elsie and Jones' chemistry is palpable and sexy, and while there is something of an age gap, it never felt unbelievable.

Narrator Abby Craden worked her magic on the audio and obviously had a blast narrating this. It was such a joy to listen to!
I one thousand percent recommend this book! Especially for those looking for something a little lighter and feel-good, but with substance.

Audio version

I first proofread this book several months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it in the written word. Abby Craden has not disappointed me with its narration. The Bexley humour is elevated to a new level and the deadpan elements were brought to life in the narration. Even though I knew the story I was still brought to tears of laughter. Well done both the author and the narrator.

Quirky at its best.

Lucy Bexley writes lovable quirky characters. You can’t help but fall in love with them. Abby Craden brings them all to life and makes them 3 dimensional. I highly recommend.

Pretty Good

A cute love story with a little bit of a preachy bent. Voice acting was spot on as you'd expect.

Sweet, Calm WLW Love Story

If you’re looking for a low stakes HEA WLW story this is for you. Everything in this book is good enough. It’s worth the listen for a relaxing book. There is a running string of small things to overcome but the book doesn’t come to an intense peak with super satisfying resolution, low stakes. I got some really solid barks of laughter out. Enjoy!

Meh

The writers agenda overshadowed the romance aspects and the character development suffered. AC perfect as always

poor

story is ok but the jokes are repetitive, there's too much depressing dialogue and slimy men, it's also the worst Abbey Crayden narration who mixed up character voices at times, it just didn't gel

Sweet

As always beautifully narrated by Abby Craden. The story was sweet and funny with great characters who felt very real and wholesome. I liked that there was no big 'you betrayed me and I hate you' moments just natural insecurity in tough situations. I will definately listen again!

Super, smashing, great

This Audio is amazing. Abby does a great job at narrating a story that is funny, sweet, funny, heartwarming, funny and sexy. All the characters are brilliant from humans to puppets. I laughed, smiled and happy sighed my way through it from start to finish. Fabulous 5 stars
