Publisher's Summary

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Fern Michaels comes a brand-new novel that blends her rich, character-driven storytelling with a hint of suspense, as a reclusive young woman struggles to piece her life back together....

Ellie Bowman barely remembers the incident that put her into a coma. When she awoke, filled with unease, all she knew for certain was that her boyfriend, Rick, was missing. She knew she needed to get away from her old life and recover in safety. With the proceeds of a video game she helped develop, Ellie starts over in rural Missouri, working from her cottage and trusting no one except her friend and business partner.

Yet even in this quiet small town, it’s impossible to completely isolate herself. Especially when a curious eight-year-old boy, smitten with Ellie’s pup, stops by every day to talk to him over the fence. Little by little, Ellie is being drawn back into the world through the neighbors and community around her, realizing that everyone has their own fears and obstacles to contend with.

But when Ellie hears that Rick has resurfaced, her nightmares return, and with them, small snippets of memory. No one has heard from Rick since before the incident, so why is he back now? Ellie wants to move forward with her life, but first she must find the courage to look into her past, no matter what she finds there....

Horrible ending

The ending didn’t explain anything. Left me totally unsatisfied. I usually love Fern Michael’s, liked this book up to the ending. Big disappointment.

please don't waste your $

this is not a normal Fern Michael's book. the story was boring and worse yet Susan Bennett is the worst narrator I have ever listened to a story it's like she's reading something for the first time and she is no emotion I will never listen to any book that she narrates again she's terrible and she doesn't get any better. I finally with 2 hours left after listening to it for three or four hours same thing nothing happening I just deleted the book from my device it was so boring don't waste your money. Fern you can do better if you wrote this it's not even close to any of your best works

Boring

This is probably the most boring book I've ever read. It just rambled on about nothing.....and then it ended. There was no excitement, no suspense, no climax. I kept waiting for it, but then it just ended.

Kim G.

I have to agree with others that this book was not a good representation of Fern Michael’s work. For those of you who have read The Sisterhood series which I thoroughly enjoyed this book does not compare. The story meanders without purpose and abruptly ends. I finished the audible book because it wasn’t offensive or grating but it was lackluster at best. The narrator did a fair job with character voices but was not an asset to the delivery of this book. This book served to lull me asleep at night setting the timer for 15 minutes.

An okay story

Can't say I loved it but I will say I liked it. Basically , Ellie lives in fear and never leaves her house, thus, the title. Oh yah, she is suffering from amnesia until she suddenly remembers what had happened. The overall story seemed slow moving but wrapped up too quickly and without much ado; kind of anti climactic. The side story about Colleen and her drunkerd husband was a little more interesting. Would have been a good summer read.

Good Book but the ending was weak

The performance of this book was excellent, and the storyline kept you guessing for most of the book, but the ending was weak. I would have been happier if it had been wrapped up. I didn't feel like it was.

Stupid story

The summary promised a story with suspense. Too many side stories and no genuine closure on the main story
