It was a pretty radical idea - a channel for teenagers, showing nothing but music videos. It was such a radical idea that almost no one thought it would actually succeed, much less become a force in the worlds of music, television, film, fashion, sports, and even politics. But it did work. MTV became more than anyone had ever imagined. I Want My MTV tells the story of the first decade of MTV, the golden era when MTV's programming was all videos, all the time, and kids watched religiously to see their favorite bands, learn about new music, and have something to talk about at parties.

People ask me how come I'm still alive, and I don't know what to say. When I was growing up, if you'd have put me up against a wall with the other kids from my street and asked me which one of us was gonna make it to the age of 60, with five kids and four grandkids and houses in Buckinghamshire and California, I wouldn't have put money on me, no f--king way. But here I am: ready to tell my story, in my own words, for the first time. A lot of it ain't gonna be pretty. I've done some bad things in my time. But I ain't the devil.

Weaned on Cole Porter, Nat King Cole, Mick and his beloved Janis Joplin, Tyler began tearing up the streets and the stage as a teenager before finally meeting his "mutant twin" and legendary partner, Joe Perry. In this addictively listenable memoir, Tyler unabashedly recounts the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith over the last three decades and riffs on the music that gives it all meaning.

An insider biography of the Black Crowes by drummer and cofounder Steve Gorman. In his first-person history of the Black Crowes, Hard To Handle - the first ever account of this great American rock band's beginning, middle, and end - Gorman makes it clear just how impossible that job was. Fortunately, Gorman tells the tale with great insight, candor, and humor. They don't make bands like the Black Crowes anymore: crazy, brilliant, self-destructive, inspiring, and, ultimately, not built to last. But, man, what a ride it was while it lasted.

Publisher's Summary
This program includes introductions read by the authors.
"A backstage pass to the wildest and loudest party in rock history - you'll feel like you were right there with us!" (Bret Michaels of Poison)
Nöthin' But a Good Time is the definitive, no-holds-barred oral history of 1980s hard rock and hair metal, told by the musicians and industry insiders who lived it.
Hard rock in the 1980s was a hedonistic and often intensely creative wellspring of escapism that perfectly encapsulated - and maybe even helped to define - a spectacularly over-the-top decade. Indeed, fist-pumping hits like Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, Mötley Crüe’s “Girls, Girls, Girls”, and Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” are as inextricably linked to the era as Reaganomics, Pac-Man, and E.T.
From the do-or-die early days of self-financed recordings and D.I.Y. concert productions that were as flashy as they were foolhardy, to the multi-Platinum, MTV-powered glory years of stadium-shaking anthems and chart-topping power ballads, to the ultimate crash when grunge bands like Nirvana forever altered the entire climate of the business, Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock's Nöthin' But a Good Time captures the energy and excess of the hair metal years in the words of the musicians, managers, producers, engineers, label executives, publicists, stylists, costume designers, photographers, journalists, magazine publishers, video directors, club bookers, roadies, groupies, and hangers-on who lived it.
Featuring an impassioned foreword by Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist and avowed glam metal fanatic Corey Taylor, and drawn from over 200 new interviews with members of Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Guns N’ Roses, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Winger, Warrant, Cinderella, Quiet Riot, and others, as well as Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford, and many more, this is the ultimate, uncensored, and often unhinged chronicle of a time where excess and success walked hand in hand, told by the men and women who created a sound and style that came to define a musical era - one in which the bands and their fans went looking for nothin’ but a good time...and found it.
A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Press
"Nöthin’ But a Good Time is an unflinching, all-excess look at an era that many snooty critics have written off as stupid, and its pages present a strong case for how people have underestimated the music and the dedication of the musicians who lived it." (Kory Grow, Rolling Stone)
Critic Reviews
"From the streets to the Strip, the studio to the stage, this is an epic tale told by the people that lived it. It's a backstage pass to the wildest and loudest party in rock history - you'll feel like you were right there with us!" (Bret Michaels)

Nothin but a Good Time/Yes it Was
Well, having been a teenager during this time period, it was fun to go back and hear the stories again, but to be honest, over 95% of the content was nothing new. We’ve already heard the stories countless times from the bands throughout the years. It was really hard to listen to the narrators mangle the artists names and the terms from the 80s. Was this publication just a money grab? I mean really, do your homework, especially if you weren’t there. It just makes me want to write my own book about the music scene. Thank goodness Eddie Trunk was interviewed, to impart some validity to the content.

I enjoyed the stories from bands I grew up listening to. but the narrator's obviously are NOT from L.A. and If they are, then wow dude... just wow. I've never heard more mispronunciations of names and street names! I mean.... who doesn't know how to say La Canada or La Cienaga if you live in L.A. ?!?!?!?!!!!!!! would rather have heard this from the mouths of those rockers.

Voice overs ? Wow
Seriously how do they pick the people to read the books ? Draw out of a hat? This book should’ve been narrated by someone who at least listens to rock music. Besides mispronouncing words and even well known names of bands , they come across as a hound Disney theatre major trying to “recreate” the emotion. Really when I hear the phrase drop the house lights let’s rock !, it better be yelled by someone who rocks. Just because someone who can read out loud clearly should NOT qualify them to read every book for audible. Seriously guys do some quality control !!!! Put certain styles with certain styles.

Excellent... Until the Female Narrator Speaks
Really unfortunate. The content, history, stories, rhythm and flow, it's all here... Then comes from out of left field, this vocal fry (Kardashian-Hilton) narration over acting her lines. Beyond cringe. Every woman she's narrating is over 50 yrs old, quite powerful and historic to the scene. It makes no sense to talk like this. Do better research or don't take the gig. The content comes off as incredibly condescending and exhausting to listen to. I've taken many breaks due to this. Honestly, I would pay for another copy if the dude narrating did all of the female lines.

pretty good
Decent book about a strange time in musical history. The male narrator was better than I expected except for some bizarre name pronunciations. The female narrator was indistinguishable from a robot. The stories were well-trodden ground by this point and I think your enjoyment will be determined by your tolerance for non-stop debauchery and swearing.

I TRIED...BUT THE NARRATION IS NOT GOOD...
It was fun reminiscing about the way it was back then. I was in the industry. I know a lot of these people for real and was a part of that scene. But the narration is so off that I found myself irritated often, knowing how to pronounce people's names correctly. Even the LA street names are pronounced wrong...come on! Really annoying.

Meh...
As a huge lover of all things rock and roll (especially 80's rock) I was excited to listen to this book. I'm about halfway through and wish I were finished. I knew there would be stories I'd heard a million times (think Motley Crue and "The Dirt"), however, for the most part the stories are familiar and I'm finding it hard to finish. Plus the narrating...ugh. The thing I am hating the most about this book is the female narrator's voice. She's so whiny and nasally. Not sure why she was picked to read. Anyway, the book is just "meh" in my opinion.

Ahhh. Memories.
So when I first started listening to this I wasn't too impressed and came close to turning it off. When the reader would say Nikki sixx, and then there would be a paragraph by nikki, then it would be Kip Winger etc etc. it got on my nerves a bit. At first. Then it didn't matter, I was enjoying it, I was laughing and I was remembering what it was like being a teenager just leaving school in 88. It took me back to summer nights listening to Poison and Van Halen. It reminded me of bands long forgotten, to now be rediscovered (thank you Spotify). I really recommend this.

Brilliant story telling the history of 80s rock
Really recommend listening to this book. Practically all the big bands from the classic period of glam metal & 80s rock are in here with great anecdotes. Brilliantly read too & great performances. It’s a classic!

This sux... Quote quote quote
OMG this is a yawn athon. Can I have my money back. Endless quotes and terrible interpretation upset the flow. I couldn't get through the first chapter so tried the second with the same result.
