Publisher's Summary

The Noobtown saga continues with Noob Game Plus, the eagerly awaited sequel to top Audible-ranked Dungeons and Noobs, from a LitRPG author at the top of his game. Join the millions of listeners who have enjoyed Johnathan McClain’s hilarious portrayal of Jim; his shoulder demon, Shart; his animal companion, Badgelor; and so many other unforgettable characters.

What happened?

The last thing Jim remembered was being tossed unceremoniously through the Demon Door. Now, he's right back where he first started his adventure, sans demon and badger. Jim’s got to make some fast choices if he has any hope of making it back to Windfall and defeating Charles. But after Jarra's death, is Windfall even what he wants anymore?

Masterpiece!

Such a great story of Jim dealing with the aftermath of the last book and figuring out who he wants to be. Very funny with lots of badass fight scenes. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Enjoyable as ever

Johnathan McClain, again, does a fantastic job bringing Ryan's world to life.

Book 5 continues on, and it does mix things up a bit. That is refreshing as many long-running litrpgs really fall into a trap of either repetition or hitting a "level cap" of sorts and then not knowing where to go.

Ryan writes some pretty funny stuff, and I do love his characters and the fact that no one is really stupid in his stories. Sometimes his characters have odd motivations or are ignorant of the situation, but they don't act stupid for the story's sake.

Now, where this book is slightly less than the previous three is the core story. I felt that this narrative was a bit on the rails. In the entire book, you really know what is going to happen next. That's not bad, but it was maybe a little too much. As readers we all want expected outcomes, the promises fulfilled. Sleeping beauty has to wake up. How, why, and when are ways we find the story interesting.

While Ryan continues to improve as a writer overall, this book mainly served as a bridge to something meaningful in future books. As I mentioned before, there is some new stuff with Jim & the crew - but at this point, it doesn't feel that at the end of the book Jim is really any different or the main story has really advanced. Other than the "litrpg" elements (there are new skills, levels, etc.. that we expect), the actual story didn't level up much.

The book is worth the price of admission. For a "bridge" book, it is still a fun read, and I look forward to seeing what is on the other side with Book 6.

They did it again.

Once again, our great Ryan Rimmel and Johnathan McClain have combined to create yet another amazing novel. The hilarity, badassery, and the overwhelming need to consume the material is brought forward once again. Thank you for this series. If a hardcover leatherbound series version eventually exists, it will make it into my library.

wow amazing they've done it again

I love this series. it's just consistently good which is really hard to do. The world and character progression is too notche.

only thing I don't like, as a prude, is the hyper fixation on genitalia. That said I know how I am and I know more of the world is less effected by that.

A filler, an interlude ..

a filler-interlude? Ryan Rimmel decided to segue into a completely different story arc here, one where he died and remorted (remortalized?) but dropped into a different realm than that of Windfall. In order to get back, he found that he needed to complete several quests, seemingly, having nothing to do with Windfall. The grandest of them was to "Save the princess" Hey, this is a fantasy realm, after all! Ryan provided good backstory for all of the MCs, even for those that only played a seemingly marginal role. What follows is a predictable journey where he encounters several high level assassins whose only desire is to terminate him with extreme prejudice and in the most sadistic way possible.

Although the story made for an interesting and enjoyable listening experience, I couldn't help sensing that it was missing something or somethings from his previous books. For example, while Ryan's snarky exchanges between characters were still there, most of it seemed tamer or less pithy. Also, while all of the primary characters were well-defined and described, most seemed as impediments to overcome rather than mainline additions to the primary story arc. The ending leaves the impression that this may be a misunderstanding on my part but will need to wait for the next book to determine for certain.

Johnathan McClain's performance was as entertaining and engaging as I've come to expect.

No One Messes with the Mayor

Really enjoyed this instalment, probably my favourite. Not done a review in a while but his one stirred me to extend my appreciation. Let’s get my niggle out of the way (in hindsight, it was more wishful thinking) I’m a fan of grimdark so as it looked it would develop more in that way I grew increasingly excited. Unfortunately it fell back to the more traditional trope of good vs evil and we really don’t want to kill things that resemble humans but if you’re not you’re fair fodder (yawn). Once reacclimatised to the fact that we were firmly cemented in the settings of standard morality you can’t but help but appreciate that this is a very entertaining and funny instalment.
Interesting direction on character development and balancing an OP character (I like the OPness) . Loved the big battle and the banter was great. The over arching story theme loomed in the background but it didn’t progress much but it does leave you wanting more. Missed some of the characters and I am hoping to see them again in book 6. Mr Rimmel, Thank You. Really pleased that this book continues to improve the series.

Seven stars, a tour de force!

I thought this chap couldn't fit in any more perfect Star Wars references than last time around, I was wrong.

Fair warning, I usually review these books fairly drunk.

Joking aside, if you're bothering to read this review after having having read/ listened to all the other books in the series, Shart would politely refer to you as a "dumb dumb"

Buy it, crack open bottle or of wine or two, boot up your favourite RPG, and tune reality the fuck out.

Companions often outshine the MC for laughs

Really like the Shart and Badgerlore characters. It’s always a treat to find a seriously funny story. The narration is top notch too to weave a story that draws in the listener. The mayor of noobtown series is my LitRPG comedy gold.

Once again, brilliant!

Yet another brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable installment of what is probably my favourite series now. A whole bunch of new characters and exploration of all new areas of Ordinal keeps the main story from going stale, yet still ties in perfectly. Can't wait for the next book!
