Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Story
This book is an exploration of the wisdom in the Viking Age poem "Havamal", specifically as it relates to the average person who isn't a scholar of Old Norse, or even an enthusiast of Viking culture. This book is for the layman, the average person who simply wants to improve their life using proven advice. The poem "Havamal" is earthy, cynical, stoic, and grim in its depiction of human life. Havamal means “The Words of the High One”. The poem's speaker is none other than Odin, King of the Gods, who has traveled the many worlds seeking power and suffered greatly in his quest.

Story
The Viking Age - from 750 to 1050 saw an unprecedented expansion of the Scandinavian peoples into the wider world. As traders and raiders, explorers and colonists, they ranged from eastern North America to the Asian steppe. But for centuries, the Vikings have been seen through the eyes of others, distorted to suit the tastes of medieval clerics and Elizabethan playwrights, Victorian imperialists, Nazis, and more. None of these appropriations capture the real Vikings, or the richness and sophistication of their culture.

Seeing how it doesn’t have a set doctrine or dogma, there is no way to best practice Norse paganism. There is also no scripture or a “holy book”, which makes it ideal for people who wish to feel free and authentic to themselves while practicing spirituality. The way Norse paganism is practiced vastly varies from region to region, and there is no “correct” way to practice it. However, it still involves adhering to some tenets, customs, and beliefs. This book offers a comprehensive exploration of modern Norse paganism.

Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

Publisher's Summary
Delve into the fascinating history of Norse mythology with this thrilling and magic audiobook!
What do you think of when you hear the words Norse mythology? Chances are, your mind goes straight to Thor or Odin, two of the most well-known Nordic gods. But their stories barely scratch the surface of the complicated and fascinating myths of ancient Scandinavia.
The fascination with the history and life of the Vikings is growing. Movies and television series about their way of life have had a surge in popularity. This online course offers a view into the Viking world and an understanding of its fascinating origins.
The culture that arose from this mythology created self-reliant people with a great need to explore and expand their reality.
The author will guide you toward a life of strength and empowered integrity. As you delve into the reality of Nordic mythology, you may become inspired to live a life without shame and fear. You may also share these powerful ways of thinking and being with others who wish to find their own way and power. By the end of the course, you will have practical, academic, and scientific knowledge about the Vikings and Nordic mythology.
Nordic mythology is a complete cycle, beginning with the creation of the universe and ending with Ragnarök, where all the powers of the universe clash in a great battle. In the end, the same forces of fire and heat that created the earth also destroy it. However, you will find that there is always a new hope rising.
In this world of mythology, there is no clear definition of good and evil. The greatest of the gods can do bad things, yet the vilest of them can save the day and create unimaginable gifts for the future.
You will also become acquainted with the idea that the whole of existence can be perceived as a great tree, called Yggdrasil.
As you journey through this course, you may be astonished by the depth of insight and wisdom that pervade every story and myth. Your ability to understand humanity, and yourself, will be enhanced and enriched.
You can become wiser and learn to empower yourself as you receive an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the culture that created this mythology. You may be captivated to learn how much these myths have, at their roots, a common human understanding of the universe. Perhaps you will find it refreshing to encounter mythology that does not condemn nor speak of sin or even right and wrong.
In many respects, you will meet a worldview that shares many similarities with science. It is a worldview that also struggles with the conflict between the powers of chaos and order. However, it speaks in the language of stories and images and through the lives of powerful yet fallible beings who resemble humans. You will even encounter a graphic description of the relationship between the powers of chaos, the powers of order, and the human way of life.
As you embark on this journey, imagine yourself following in the footsteps of Odin. By hanging himself from the tree of life, he falls and finds the runes of wisdom and insight. Odin is willing to let go of a reality he already understands to be allowed to drink from the well that contains all the wisdom of the world.
So, I welcome you to do as Odin did…let go and drink deep from the well of wisdom.

Ancient culture, philosophy and mythology interest me a lot, and this audiobook did not disappoint, au contraire. It is well researched and delves into the stories and magic powers of Norse Gods, the Viking age, the philosophy and morals of this ancient culture, and what impact they have in the modern world. It's' well narrated and it keeps your interest going, in an introductory way, it's a fun audiobook and it will bring you into the old magic world of Norse creatures.

High-level mythology
This author has done a lovely job of describing Norse mythology. When I was a child, I devoured a book on Norse myths, and these stories are very familiar. But there was new material. There are some sexual aspects that of course did not appear in my child's book. It was also interesting to compare these stories with those that underlay Wagner's Ring Cycle operas; some things were familiar, some were not (for example, the operas begin and end with the Rhine maidens.) I was also intrigued at the end with the new world that resulted after Ragnarok. Very interasting

Very insightful and educational
This audiobook covered Norse mythology and it is well written and researched. I like the way that the stories are broken down and given context and therefore understanding. They also help you understand the rich history of the Vikings who were ruthless but also a complicated people with some, by today's standards, stage beliefs.
The bravery and courage of the fighters are legendary and that is where and how these stories came to be. You can't help get excited about the times and people and of course the gods themselves. I really enjoyed this audiobook and recommend it to anyone who is even slightly interested in these people and times.

Entertaining and extremely informative
I learned quite a bit from listening "Norse Mythology: From Hel to Valhalla" The first thing that surprised me is how short the Viking age was, less than 300 years. This group had a profound and far-reaching effect on Europe in a relatively short period.
Quite honestly, the number of Norse "gods" surprised and confused me. I was also surprised by the number of giants that contribute to Norse mythology.
I really Enjoyed the Enthusiasm and the way the narrator presented the Material. He reminded me of a Story Teller from the Past

I really enjoyed this version of Norse Mythology
I think even someone who's not a fan of mythology would appreciate the descriptions of the gods and goddesses contained within. The descriptions were more than sufficient for the curious and I've no doubt fans of such modern-day film characters would seriously enjoy Uncovering Norse Mythology. I even found some of the information surprising... for example, the identity of Thor's mother. I especially liked the entertaining stories about the various deities.

Very interesting
Are you are interested in history, in mythology, in learning about the adventures of Norse gods? You will find this audiobook an excellent resource. As the author explains “Norse mythology is certainly interesting, enriching, and entertaining.” In addition to telling the stories and describing the characters, this audiobook also has information about why Norse Mythology is still of interest today. The author says “By reading Norse myths and the mythology of other ancient cultures, we learn things our modern world has not prepared us for. We lose a little part of what it means to be human in an age driven by technology, not magic: by equipment, not heroes. Reading mythology can help us dream again, reach into the very deepest parts of our psyche and discover our own inner hero again.” The author describes the modern day impact of Norse Mythology on Scandinavia and the Viking Countries. There is also information about the impact of Norse Mythology on Popular Culture – in books, poetry, music, movies and games. All very interesting.

Regrettable
I really struggled to get through this. To start with the writing isn’t great. Story lines pop around all over the place and at times it feels like a Top Trumps listing of attributes.
I’m sure the story of the mistletoe cropped up at least 3 times.
Dragging the Marvel comic and Hollywood angles into the mix was just pointless, I can go to the cinema for that and it felt like needless padding in a book running out of ideas.
That said the writing could have been enhanced by good narration but that’s not the case. The first narrator was just nauseating to listen to and sounded like a school boy with no gravitas or acting ability.
Other narrators just sounded pompous and one had poor pronunciation of some words that made this whole listening experience a task to get through.
Disappointing and not much learned from this.
