Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Seeing how it doesn’t have a set doctrine or dogma, there is no way to best practice Norse paganism. There is also no scripture or a “holy book”, which makes it ideal for people who wish to feel free and authentic to themselves while practicing spirituality. The way Norse paganism is practiced vastly varies from region to region, and there is no “correct” way to practice it. However, it still involves adhering to some tenets, customs, and beliefs. This book offers a comprehensive exploration of modern Norse paganism.

Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

Story
This book is an exploration of the wisdom in the Viking Age poem "Havamal", specifically as it relates to the average person who isn't a scholar of Old Norse, or even an enthusiast of Viking culture. This book is for the layman, the average person who simply wants to improve their life using proven advice. The poem "Havamal" is earthy, cynical, stoic, and grim in its depiction of human life. Havamal means “The Words of the High One”. The poem's speaker is none other than Odin, King of the Gods, who has traveled the many worlds seeking power and suffered greatly in his quest.

Modern Norse Paganism is more of a spiritual path than a religion. It is based on pre-Christian Northern European people’s ancient customs, beliefs, worldviews, and folkloric practices. It is also an essential subdivision of the more prominent modern religious movement, which has come to be known as “Heathenism/Heathenry”. People who practice Norse Paganism might sometimes refer to themselves as “Heathens”.

Hear the original tales of Thor, Odin, and Loki, as the Vikings heard them long ago. Enjoy these ancient tales of tragedy, death, glory, and love, with all the gory and mystic details left out of the Hollywood versions. This collection, The Prose Edda, was the first time the Viking myths were assembled and written down in plain prose (before then, they existed only as oral poems). This abridged edition has only removed sections dealing with technical rules for writing poetry in the Viking style, but has included all the myths and legends.

This audiobook is a myth!🔱
This audiobook has been very interesting and I believe that we get to understand myths and legends are part of our history! It is sad that my great grandfather shared all the stories with my father and my fathers brothers and sisters. I share what I am learning and doing and they are now remembering the stories and writing things for our children to know our history. In America somehow we lost our culture after one generation and now we are all yearning to learn about our ancestry and culture. Stories and memories are a huge part of our culture

A Delightful Retelling of norse mythology
What a fantastic retelling of Norse Myths. Featuring such characters as Odin, Thor and Loki along with a host of other lesser known gods and characters.
The author does his best to stick to the source material and not stray too far from the myths themselves, writing it in his own language which really brings the stories to life. By doing this, Nathan Mendoza has written the perfect place to start if you want to learn more about Norse Mythology in my view.
It’s basically a collection of short stories, with a large Ragnarok story at the end. Amongst my favourites were: • How Thor receives Mjollnir (Treasures of the Gods) • When Thor has to dress up as a bride to get Mjollnir back (Freya’s unusual wedding) • The story of the cauldron the Gods want so they can get drunk a lot (Hymir and Thor’s fishing expedition) • The mead of Poetry (Mead of poets)
My favourite though, was Thor’s journey to the land of the giants. It’s one of the longer tales in the audiobook where Thor and his companions are put through their paces in a number of physical contests.
Mendoza stays true to how the characters are described within the ancient myths. The characters are different to what people have come to expect from Marvel films. Thor is a bit of a dumb meat head. Odin is treacherous and ultimately clever. Loki is even more conniving than the film/comic book version.
