Publisher's Summary

Is it possible to disagree politically and love unconditionally? The reaction of evangelicals to political and cultural shifts in recent years revealed what they value most. Lurking beneath our Bible-laced rhetoric, faith claims, books, and sermons is a relentless drive to win!

But the church is not here to win. By every human measure, our Savior lost. On purpose. With a purpose. And we are his body. We are not in it to win anything. We are in it for something else entirely. That something else is what this book is about.

You'll discover:

  • How to take a stand the right way. You'll learn how to make your case with a posture of humility and understanding, rather than being fueled by the fear of losing something.
  • How to view politics through the lens of faith. Learn curiously, listen intentionally, and love unconditionally.
  • How the life of Jesus and his teaching applies to modern-day challenges in a fresh way. The "biblical" stand may not be what we've been taught.

Jesus never asked his followers to agree on everything. But he did call his followers to obey a new command: to love others in the same way he has loved us. Instead of asserting our rights or fighting for power, we need to begin asking ourselves: What does love require of me?

Brave challenge for FOLLOWERS of Christ

Such a Brave challenge for Christians who are committed to allowing our faith to lead. I’m sure Pastor Stanley will face criticism from others, but didn’t Jesus find Himself in that position often?
May we show the world who Jesus is through our actions and responses.

Outstanding

In today's polarized America, this is a must read for people who consider themselves "followers of Christ." We must examine if our attempts to win arguments are undermining our ability to tell the world about the Good News!

The way forward!

We are all flawed people no matter our political beliefs. Following Jesus first allows us to let in opposing ideals so that way we may eventually come to an agreement.

Perhaps the most important book to read this year.

Amazing! Andy Stanley pulls back the curtain on the American Church and shines a light on all the flaws, actions, and activities that are dividing the American Church. This is an exceptional read!

Watch Your Toes

This book is really thought provoking. Definitely stepped on our toes. The final chapter says it all so if the first parts make you want to quit listening, do yourself a favor and listen to the last one before you give it up.

This is a much needed, courageous book addressing the American church today. Lord give us grace to put it into action.

The perfect meal for a hungry Christian

An author who writes with complete clarity on any subject is a joy. Andy Stanley brings clarity to why Christians have become so ineffective at reaching the lost in North America. After listening to it end to end twice, I feel more equipped to move forward productively than I have in decades

Must Read/Listen for Christians

I just finished listening & will listen again & again until the lessons are so imbedded in my heart that they determine my actions by default. This book should be required reading for all Christians, all public servants, all elected officials and anyone who wants to see the world become a better place. The book is basically a sermon series by a deeply insightful and excellent communicator. You don’t have to be a Jesus follower to appreciate the truth Andy shares so eloquently.

Great book!

Christian nationalism is not what the Lord commanded us to do. Politics doesn’t belong in church. I challenge you to show your faith by works not by judgement

Critically important read.

I liked the message of the book, and it was easy to listen to in terms of sound and clarity.
I recommend this book for all Christians. While it is clearly a message to the American Church, it is a critical warning and re-alignment to any who take their cultural and faith cues from America.
