Publisher's Summary

Is it possible to disagree politically and love unconditionally? The reaction of evangelicals to political and cultural shifts in recent years revealed what they value most. Lurking beneath our Bible-laced rhetoric, faith claims, books, and sermons is a relentless drive to win!

But the church is not here to win. By every human measure, our Savior lost. On purpose. With a purpose. And we are his body. We are not in it to win anything. We are in it for something else entirely. That something else is what this book is about.

You'll discover:

  • How to take a stand the right way. You'll learn how to make your case with a posture of humility and understanding, rather than being fueled by the fear of losing something.
  • How to view politics through the lens of faith. Learn curiously, listen intentionally, and love unconditionally.
  • How the life of Jesus and his teaching applies to modern-day challenges in a fresh way. The "biblical" stand may not be what we've been taught.

Jesus never asked his followers to agree on everything. But he did call his followers to obey a new command: to love others in the same way he has loved us. Instead of asserting our rights or fighting for power, we need to begin asking ourselves: What does love require of me?

Brave challenge for FOLLOWERS of Christ

Such a Brave challenge for Christians who are committed to allowing our faith to lead. I’m sure Pastor Stanley will face criticism from others, but didn’t Jesus find Himself in that position often?
May we show the world who Jesus is through our actions and responses.

An excellent book for all to read!

Pastor Stanley has again written, an amazing book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone of faith. It’s a stark reminder that too often we have our priorities miss-ordered. Thank you for writing this book.

Every believer should listen to this message

He makes clear that which I have felt, but hadn’t clearly understood. It provides greater insight in how to walk out my faith.

Amazing and Convicting!

Once again Andy has changed my way of thinking about what love requires of me... which is the only commandment I need to heed according to the Lords new covenant... thank you Andy, it is going to take some real work, but is a must!♡

A Biblical Response to Political Division

I am an evangelical pastor, and Stanley's book is a huge relief to me. He describes the division I and other leaders like me have been navigating, and then he articulates a Christ-centered evaluation of that division--not one side or the other, but the division itself. I want everyone I know to read this book.

Every Christian alive today has to read this

When we say "I am a Christian," we often think it is a statement about what we believe. People were first called Christians because of who they followed, not who they believed in. Their allegiance was to a higher king than any person on earth. They were called Christians by the very people that were killing them for being more devoted to God than to their earthly king.

If you believe Jesus is the son of God, and the Bible is his authoritative word, but you are devoted to following a leader on earth that is influencing you to do things that do not line up with the commands of Jesus, you might believe in Jesus, but you are not a Christian. This book challenged me and gave me a lot of clarity about what it means to be a Christian in a politically charged landscape.

Articulate. Truth Wielding.

Powerfully articulated. Convicting and assuring. I love that Andy exhorts us to live like Jesus. It’s been the cry of my heart. I’m so grateful to have this book to help me articulate my heart. Read/listen with humility and a hope for a unified future.

Such a great message for our time.

My heart has been thoroughly convicted by this message. A very needed message for the Church in America.

Critically important read.

I liked the message of the book, and it was easy to listen to in terms of sound and clarity.
I recommend this book for all Christians. While it is clearly a message to the American Church, it is a critical warning and re-alignment to any who take their cultural and faith cues from America.
