Publisher's Summary
The Sunday Times number best seller
Nothing Ventured is the incredible and thrilling novel by the master storyteller and bestselling author of the Clifton Chronicles and Kane and Abel, Jeffrey Archer.
This is not a detective story, this is a story about a detective.
William Warwick is eight when he decides to join the police force. Resolute in the face of his prominent QC father’s objections, William graduates in Art History from university and immediately enrols as a constable in the Metropolitan Police.
Gaining insight from his first mentor, an experienced, world-weary constable, his keen mind quickly takes him into a role in Scotland Yard’s Art and Antiques unit and his first case: the recovery of a Rembrandt stolen from the Fitzmolean Museum.
It will take skill and tenacity for William to solve the crime, and along the way he will encounter many who will change his life, from Miles Faulkner, a crooked art collector, and his influential lawyer – who bends the law to the point of breaking – to research assistant Beth Rainsford, a woman with secrets who he falls hopelessly in love with....
William Warwick’s destiny is set, the only question is, how far will his ambition take him? Thrilling, absorbing and entertaining, Nothing Ventured heralds the start of a brand new series from master storyteller Jeffrey Archer and introduces a character destined to become one of his most enduring legacies.
Continue the gripping series with Hidden in Plain Sight.

Disappointing
I was very disappointed. I have read all Jeffrey Archers books and this was by far the worst. Boring story line and so predictable. Not worth the listen.

Story was good until the last third of the book
How can anyone seriously believe that the crown did not cross examine Faulkner with all the evidence they had from the private detective and Scottland Yard or check his phone calls, bank statements or travels arrangements etc. to disproof his story?
The end was not believable even for as long ago as 1984.

Enjoyable back story!
I quite enjoyed this! It is exactly what it professes to be -- not necessarily a detective case, but rather an account of a young man's progression in the early days of his profession, and all the people and experiences that influenced his growth. I especially liked his sister's contributions!

clever story
not my cup of tea as it's focused on legal proceedings and policing, both of which I don't know much about and hope I don't need to know about. Quite technical at times, but I found myself relating well with the characters and forming feelings towards the circumstances that came up. Well though out, started alittle slow I felt but quite satisfactory.

Great Story until last bit.
A really good story that kept me coming back. The narration was well done too.
However, during the last phase, outcomes become a little untangled & unbelievable in the author’s effort to keep the criminal nemesis in play. Obviously it has been set up to be the first book of another series.
Dare I suggest another new ‘badie’ character replace the last one altogether. Having to put up with another Lady Virginia &/or Fischer type character is a little ho hum especially as Jeffrey Archer has already done it in his last series.
Jeffrey Archer is better that.

Cracking start to the new series
I really enjoyed the author's Clifton Chronicles series and so was delighted to learn of this new one. It certainly doesn't disappoint. Two compelling stories captured my attention and kept me engrossed. Stories that combine topics that Mr Archer knows about: art, court cases and prisons. The book ends with a cliff-hanger so I hope that the author is hard at work on book 2.
The narrator is excellent. One tend to not notice when a narrator is good yet a poor one can ruin and otherwise good book.

The master storyteller strikes again
I remember being captivated by the Clifton Chronicles culminating in some unmanly snivelling at the end of the last book. Nothing ventured took me on a fast paced journey with enough twists and variety to keep me fully entertained throughout. If there was a criticism I felt that some descriptions were somewhat abridged. Overall I am very much looking forward to part 2

Still the Master
Say what you like about him, Archer is a rollicking good read. Keeps you hooked from start to finish and always a parting sting in the tail. Fans of the Clifton Chronicles will love reading the book that Harry really would have written. Sheer genius.

Interesting and defiantly enjoyable.
I have no curiosity for Art or Art appreciation, nevertheless this was not a problem in my enjoying this book.
I quickly came to like the main character, the story was simple enough in its content, which actually fitted with all the characters really well.
Some of the story line was a little predictable, however, it didn’t stop me wanting to listen to the end.
If you just want a feel good, easy to listen to book, I am sure you will enjoy this one.
I look forward to the sequel which is in the pipeline for release October 2020.

Started on a low and didn’t move from there
I felt the story was predictable. William was mediocre along with the storyline. Loved the Clifton Chronicles but this did not compare.
Wouldn’t recommend. Sorry
