Publisher's Summary

He's the leader of the mountain rescue service. She might just need saving.

Lochie

For too long, I've been alone. Just me and my daughter. Keeping her safe is everything, so taking a job in the remote Scottish Highlands suits us fine.

I shouldn't need anything more.

Yet, I'm beyond distracted by a lass.

Smart, beautiful, and living right next door, Cait McRae makes it clear she's not interested.

Every sly glance tells another story.

It's all I can do not to throw her over my shoulder and take her home.

Cait might claim she only wants to explore the physical, but I know she's wrong.

She's mine.

If the people pursuing us both don't destroy what we've found.

Cait

I always knew I was different. No one ever caught my eye.

Until a huge, scowling man moves in next door. He's the new head of the mountain rescue service and a single dad to a sweet little girl.

Turns out, I'm a late bloomer, as all I can think about is Lochie.

But someone else wants me.

A series of strange events point to one conclusion. I have a stalker, and the danger I'm in is only just starting.

The Wild Mountain Scots series follows on from the Wild Scots series with more of your favorite McRaes. Meet the brooding, tough, protective men of the mountain rescue and the beautiful women who tame their hearts.

Read the Book!

When you listen to any romantic story you want to be immersed. This audio narration falls short. I often found myself distracted by an accent that just didnt sound quite right. When paired with a story that is suspenseful, quiet, and slow, I often found myself no longer listening.

The female audio narrator is sub par. I'm not tearing anyone down. She is likely a lovely, thoughtful, interesting human being; or, maybe she is none of these things. She could be a spicy, short tempered, exciting individual. My point is, it dont care about how they describe their humanity, fair-to-even odds they're not Scottish. Suspense really requires the reader to be engaged, but I'm constantly distracted by the way "Kate" sounds. I think this story would be better experienced in my own voice. Positive vibes! If someone asked me to narrate a book with a brogue I would sound ike a Southern American-Russian by word four. The issue is listening to "Kate" sound like a Southern American-Russian is infinity more grating.

I don't know why, but his Scottish accent doesn't bother me. I like that at times I don't understand him. I'm also not schooled in accents by way, shape, or formal training. (Full disclosure I dabbled in Russian language) Honestly, there are fair-to-even odds I'm completely full of shit. He may be an American, and she may be an Uzbeki American Scottish person. To my ear he sounds more authentic.

A Riveting & Thrilling Romantic Suspense!

I enjoyed this book immensely, the story drew me in right from the beginning, grabbing my attention and captivating it the entire time. Jolie Vines is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, the storylines she created are interesting and original and the character development and world building is fantastic. I enjoyed the complexity of the characters and how easy they were to relate to and connect with, they are easy to like and care for too. Lochivar “Lochie” Ross is on the run trying to keep his daughter Isla safe and what better place to take her but to the remote Scottish Highlands where he got a job with the mountain rescue service. He will work with the McRae’s and they even arranged family members available to watch Isla if he ever gets call out for an emergency, including his new neighbor, Caitriona “Cait” McRae, but he does not get the best first impression when they first meet. Cait works for the university but works remotely from home most of the time, which makes her the perfect person to watch Isla when necessary. Isla was shy at first, but she took to Cait fairly quickly. It does not take Lochivar too long to realize his first impressions were wrong and his feelings quickly morph into something more like desire. A lot of odd things were happening to Cait, things she first wrote off as nothing but the things escalate and not just for her but others around her. Lochivar thinks it may be his past catching up to him, will he take Isla and run again or is what he is building with Cait enough to make want to stay. This is a cleverly plotted romantic suspense, there is plenty of drama, angst, mystery, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn romance. Jolie Vines, thank you for this terrific story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Lauren Ezzo and Frank Ryan are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited their character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhanced an already great story to another level. Thank you for this fantastic listen.

Better than I thought

This actually ended up better than I thought it would. I struggled at the beginning just because I did not feel a connection between the two at that time. As the story moved along I became interested in each character as I learned more about them. By the end I was hooked and concerned about them.

I did listen to this on audio. Both narrators are new to me. Frank Ryan did a good job. Lauren Ezzo I did struggle with her male voice. It did not seem to be in a Scottish accent. Her female voice seemed perfect.

Hot Scott

Discovered a great start to a new series. A bit of mystery and a whole lot of hotness! I thought I had it figured out but loved that I had it wrong. Swoon single Dad and reluctant girl next door that didn’t know she was looking for love. You can’t help but fall in love with the protectiveness of Lockie.

Meh…had real potential

First, storyline had parts that were actually quite good followed by parts that induced 🙄 eye rolling & groans (not the good kind, either). There were moments of suspense, mystery and sexual tension that promised an intense and absorbing story. Sadly, there were equal moments that smacked of “Hallmark movie moments “ or YA read, just not believable. Second, overall narration was good, with one glaring exception, The female narrators attempts at a male voice was cringe worthy (sorry…)

Excellent audiobook

This was a fantastic story made even better by perfect narrators. I could have listened to these two narrate a telephone book.

Lochie is a wonderful, imperfect, alpha protector Hero. He has his eyes on Katrina (Kate) the moment he first saw her. Kate is such an interesting heroine. Atypical, which was refreshing.

This book has great characters, a wonderful, sexy romance with a perfect amount of suspense. I’m looking forward to Cameron’s story.

Good story

Enjoyed the story some great twists and turns I found the female narrators very bad Scottish accent frustrating she kept switching to an Eastern European one then back to a few Scottish sounding lines and so one.

poor accent

Love this story & was looking forward to hearing it as an audible but unfortunately I had to return it as I couldn’t cope with the accent of the female narrator. It totally distracted me from the story as I was trying so hard to hear a Scottish accent but she sounded eastern european instead. Such a shame a Scottish narrator couldn’t be found. So disappointed.

bad accents

I don't mind the story line but Laurans accent sounds russian? It took me like 7 chapters to figure out it wasn't on purpose - I thought the character was adopted or unconnected to the family because she was Russian and everyone else was Scottish?
