Publisher's Summary

When Chet the dog, "the most lovable narrator in all of crime fiction" (Boston Globe), and his partner, PI Bernie Little of the desert-based Little Detective Agency, arrive to a meeting with hydrologist Wendell Nero, they are in for a shocking sight - Wendell has come to a violent and mysterious end.

What did the hydrologist want to see them about? Is his death a random robbery, or something more? Chet and Bernie, working for nothing more than an eight-pack of Slim Jims, are on the case.

Bernie might be the only one who thinks the police have arrested the wrong man, including the perp's own defense attorney.

Chet and Bernie begin to look into Wendell's work, a search that leads to a struggling winemaker who has received an offer he can't refuse. Meanwhile, Chet is smelling water where there is no water, and soon Chet and Bernie are in danger like never before.

Love the Chet and Bernie Adventures

This is another great Chet and Bernie story. It’s easy to follow Chet’s train of thought If you’ve ever had big love filled dogs… All the adults and kids in my family get really excited every time a new book comes out. They are about the best and the worst of human nature, and of course the best in our canine friends.

Best in the series

This was the best storyline in the Chet and Bernie series yet. There was actually character development in this book. And of course Chet is always wonderful.

Chet really knows how to tell a story.

I love listening to Chet explain life in the Little Detective Agency. for a K9, he understands people better than people do.

Jim Frangipane knows just how to read in Chet's voice. I always end up laughing. He has a fantastic timing.

The mystery and characters are tip top.

Back to form

If you have a dog, you'll like this series. I admit that recently I felt the author was getting repetitive and much of the joy of the first books had given way to formulaic drudgery, But just when I was giving up in the series, with this book it looks like the author got his mojo back. Chet is FUN again. So many times when I was "yeah, that's what I'm sure MY dog is thinking"! And a good detective story on top to boot, whereas the last few were just boring or a bit to far-fetched.

Chet the Jet!

I wish everyone could have a Chet! Chet and Bernie are at it again this time involving Bernie’s beloved aquifer. This book did not disappoint. As always Mr. Frangione is Chet. Does him perfectly. Intrigue. Mystery. Murder. Love. This one has it all!! I’m ready for the next!!!

Another wonderful mystery.

This book made me cry a bit att he reminder that dogs and people are on different life time lines. I so don’t want Chet to get old. But again I found myself wondering at the way a dogs mind works. Such love and loyalty. I always appreciate my pups more after reading a Chet and Bernie story. Thanks Spencer!

You gotta love Bernie!

TipTop story and narration as always. I re-listen to the older volumes when the news of the world becomes too grim for me. This new offering made me laugh out loud a few times while walking along, listening through the streaming feature of my hearing aids, getting startled looks from other walkers. It’s been 65 years since I’ve owned a dog, but Chet’s voice makes me love every dog I see. Can’t wait for the next one! Will there be a Slim Jim for me? I hope so!
