Story
There once was a time when we joyfully raised our hands to answer questions, connected easily with others, believed that anything was possible, and fearlessly jumped into new experiences. A time when we viewed each day not as something to endure, but as a marvelous gift to explore and savor - when we danced through our lives in awe of the ordinary moments and eager for the promise of tomorrow. In Awe reveals how we can regain that ability to see fresh insights, reach for new solutions, and live our best lives.

Story
Marianne Williamson is a best-selling author, a world-renowned teacher, and one of the most important spiritual voices of our time. In Tears to Triumph, she argues that we - as a culture and as individuals - have learned to avoid facing pain. By doing so we are neglecting the spiritual work of healing. Instead of allowing ourselves to embrace our hurt, we numb it, medicate it, dismiss it, or otherwise divert our attention so that we never have to face it.

The emotional trauma we suffer as children not only shapes our emotional lives as adults but also affects our physical health and overall well-being. Scientists now know on a biochemical level exactly how parents' chronic fights, divorce, death in the family, being bullied or hazed, and growing up with a hypercritical, alcoholic, or mentally ill parent can leave permanent, physical "fingerprints" on our brains.

Rocket science is often celebrated as the ultimate triumph of technology. But it's not. Rather, it's the apex of a certain thought process - a way to imagine the unimaginable and solve the unsolvable. It's the same thought process that enabled Neil Armstrong to take his giant leap for mankind, that allows spacecraft to travel millions of miles through outer space and land on a precise spot, and that brings us closer to colonizing other planets.

During her multi-book investigation into understanding human nature, Gretchen Rubin realized that by asking the seemingly dry question “How do I respond to expectations?” we gain explosive self-knowledge. She discovered that based on their answer, people fit into Four Tendencies: Upholders, Questioners, Obligers, and Rebels. Our Tendency shapes every aspect of our behavior, so using this framework allows us to make better decisions, meet deadlines, suffer less stress, and engage more effectively.

Story
God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each. Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers.

If You're In My Office, It's Already Too Late. James Sexton knows this. After dealing with over 1000 clients whose marriages have dissolved over everything from an ill-advised threesome with the nanny to the uneven division of carpool duties, he also knows all of the what- not-to-dos for couples who want to build - and consistently work to preserve - a lasting, fulfilling relationship. Described by former clients as a "courtroom gunslinger" and "the sociopath you want on your side", Sexton tells the unvarnished truth about relationships. These usually derive from dishonest communication.

Publisher's Summary
In the best-selling tradition of Brene Brown's Daring Greatly and Nick Vujicic's Life Without Limits comes a rousing seven-step plan for living a life on fire, filled with hope and possibility - from an inspirational speaker who survived a near-fatal fire at the age of nine and now runs a successful business inspiring people all around the world.
When John O'Leary was nine years old, he was almost killed in a devastating house fire. With burns on 100 percent of his body, O'Leary mustered an almost unimaginable amount of inner strength just to survive the ordeal. The insights he gained through this experience and the heroes who stepped into his life to help him through the journey - his family, the medical staff, and total strangers - changed his life. Now he is committed to living life to the fullest and inspiring others to do the same.
An incredible and emotionally honest account of triumph over tragedy, On Fire contains O'Leary's reflections on being that little boy, the life-giving choices made then, and the resulting lessons he learned. O'Leary very clearly shares that without the right people providing the right guidance at the right time, he never would have made it through those five months in the hospital, let alone the years that followed as he struggled to regain mobility, embrace his story, and ignite clarity of his life's purpose.
On Fire encourages us to seize the power to choose our paths and transform our lives from mundane to extraordinary. Once we stop thinking solely on the big moments in our lives, we can begin to focus on those smaller opportunities that tend to pass us by. These are the events - the inflection points in our lives - that can determine how we feel about life now, where we are headed in the future, and how many lives we can impact along the way. We can't always choose the paths we walk, but we can choose how we walk them. Empowering, inspiring, remarkably honest, and heartfelt, O'Leary's strength and incredible spirit shine through in every minute.

Atheist Review
Firstly, I want to say that John's book has helped me gain a better understanding of burn victims and their struggles. This was a wonderful piece of literature and not what I expected.
John maintains a religious overtone throughout the book. This irked me a bit since I am atheist and had not read anything about a religious overtone before purchasing this product. Not believing in god kind-of interferes with the authors message about god having a convoluted plan for everyone.
This is an autobiography and the theme of this book follows: "Thank god I am alive", let me talk about all the compassionate people that helped me along the way and what I learned from them. This isn't a bad style, for certain faiths,
The ratings are understandable after reading it. I cried at many of the acts of compassion in this book. The authors "inflection" points were insightful and touching. John seems to end the book in hopes that it becomes an inflection point for his readers.
With that said, I don't believe this book will cause you to start a radically inspired life. I attribute John's overall success thus far to his super supportive family, friends, and medical personnel. The author doesn't mention his mother much after the first couple chapters and I highly suspect that she was responsible for a lot of the good that came his way. On the positive side, reading this book is likely to improve your overall emotional intelligence.
------
When the author is learning to walk again, he mentions having to walk along the white picket fence all the way around his farm. This is not a low-income family. The number of kids and house suggest that his family was probably middle-class. I look forward to reading the one about the kid that came from a low-income family. This one is about a kid that came from the American dream life and physically messed up before he knew any better.

I loved every part of the book!
What was one of the most memorable moments of On Fire?
From sports celebrities, to family, to nurses and janitors, it is amazing to hear how each one played a part in John's story
What does John O'Leary bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
If this book wasn't in audio version, I would most likely never have read it. Thanks for narrating your story John.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were some parts of the story which really struck home, his relationship with his dad. It was nice to hear a story that didn't involve an emotionally disturbed childhood.
Any additional comments?
