Publisher's Summary

In a small town like Solitude, Oregon, keeping a secret can be murder.

Stevie Taylor had left her sleepy Oregon hometown for a more exciting life. But after her police chief father passes away, the LAPD cop returns to Solitude and signs on as a patrol officer, hoping to heal from her loss... and from the horrific things she's seen in the city.

In Solitude, everyone knows everyone else's business - and, to Stevie's dismay, local gossip soon ties her to the new police chief and a man from her past. Tragedy then shakes up the small town when a teenager dies after taking a strange new drug. Now, the seasoned LA cop must hunt down the dealer while investigating the most important case of her life, one that could divide her tranquil town.

The first of four thrilling Rogue River novellas, On Her Father's Grave launches a new romantic suspense series from Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh.

Pretty good thriller

Kendra Elliot is on of the authors of suspense novels I read to fill in time between novels I'm really looking forward to. Until the new David Baldacci novel is released next Tuesday all I have is either time fillers or authors I am unsure of. I have eight Kendra Eliot novels in my Audible library and they rarely disappoint. Like all of her novels this one is set in Oregon. The local sheriff dies of a heart attack and one of his daughters who is a detective in Los Angeles returns home to be with family (mother, 2 adult brothers, an adult sister and some nieces and nephews). She joins the sheriff's department and soon after goes about solving a murder of a teenager. Of course she also falls in love with the new sheriff. It's a nice action/suspense novel. Kate Rudd narrates wonderfully well.

Oh so good! Good plot. Good characters and nicely written. An easy read but interesting

L A lady cop returns to her small town and her loving family. She was a good cop in LA and remains a cop in the small town. The new Chief of police is a good cop also and the two of them must find out what/who caused the death of two high school boys. I am going to listen to the next in the series right now.

Great new series!

This book had me from page 1! LAPD officer returns home to join the police force where her deceased father was the chief. Her job is to track down the dealer responsible for a new drug that’s killing teens. Throw in a possible love interest and you have a captivating story. Looking forward to the next book.

Short and sweet

I liked the short aspect of a novella after reading some long books lately. I enjoy the premise. Downloading the next book now…

Clean Harlequinesque mystery

I read the entire merciful series by this author and enjoyed it but this feels like just a rehash of the style and type of mystery and romance, including the style of reading. There’s nothing wrong with it, it just seems a little simplistic

Two of the Best. Together.

I have a complete weakness for romantic suspense novels. I love a good story that combines a pulse pounding plot with the tension of possible romance. It's kind of my catnip. Two of the best in this genre, Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh have teamed up for this series of novellas, and I'm all in after the first installment.

Stevie left her small town in Oregon and became a cop in L.A. But when her father, the Police Chief of her hometown, dies suddenly she realizes it's time to return to her roots. She's now serving on the local force and helping her mother and siblings work through the loss of her dad. She's expecting traffic tickets and occasional domestic disputes in this quiet town. Instead, she gets the sudden death of a popular high schooler. She finds herself the only one on the force who approaches this death through the eyes of big city issues rather than small town thinking.

Stevie is a great character. She's easy to identify with, loves her job, is smart and capable. She's also surrounded by a loving, though not perfect, family and a small town full of people who've known her forever and think they know everything about her.

So, what could possibly make her life even more complex than dealing with grief, loss, moving, and being the new cop on the force? The universal answer to that question is...Men. Two men, actually. An old flame and a new boss that knows he shouldn't go there.

Ladies intuition is good

An interesting and enjoyable lead in book to this series. Not dynamic action but enough to keep my interest throughout. The ending came up quickly but was believable and fitted in with the book being a novella. Looking forward to see how the author develops this theme.
