Publisher's Summary

For Libby Beckett, opening her charming yarn shop, and introducing customers to the joys of knitting and crochet, is the work she was meant to do. Until the yarn she loves is used for murder....

Libby has come home to Collinstown, Maryland, to live her dream and open her own yarn shop, aptly named Y.A.R.N., along the Chester River. To Libby, Y.A.R.N. stands for "You're Absolutely Ready Now". But the acronym changes whenever inspiration strikes, and customers add to the list of suggestions that fill the blackboard wall in a shop stuffed with color, fiber, and comfort.

Libby is thrilled when she lands famous Norwegian knitting celebrity Perle Langager for a series of events  at Y.A.R.N. Libby's English bulldog, Hank, has been modeling one of Perle's doggie sweaters, and customers just can't wait to see Perle in action. The mayor of Collinstown even decrees a Collinstown Yarn Day to celebrate. But once Perle arrives in town, she seems distracted and on edge. And when she's found strangled with a skein of red yarn, Libby knows she has to solve a knotty mystery before her new life unravels.

* This audio edition includes a downloadable PDF of a knitting pattern for the Norwegian inspired dog sweater mentioned in the book.

GREAT NEW SERIES

YES, THERE ARE OTHER KNITTING MYSTERIES - COZIES- BUT THIS ONE HAS SOME UNIQUE TOUCHES, AT LEAST TO NON-KNITTER ME. I LOVED THE NORWEGIAN VS DANISH INFO, THE NEEDLE DESIGNS, AND LIBBY'S ENTHUSIASM FOR THE ART OF KNITTING. THE CHARACTERS ARE ENGAGING AND ENTERTAINING. THE STORY WAS WELL WRITTEN AND INTELLIGENT, AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2.

Charming author

The talk by the author was charming. She should have narrated the book. Although the protagonist was held to be admirable, she complained and whined a bit too much. On a trivial note, just can't visualize yarn bombing as art.

Fun, and no brain cells lost

What a fun book! The story is interesting, the characters are likeable, and the writing is crisp. The author has a sense of humor, and it shows. I tend to shy away from cozies as they frequently disappoint, but this was wonderfully fun and well written. The narration was well done.

Delightful Book!

I loved sitting and knitting my project while listening to this entertaining book. Allie Pleiter is a very good writer and her narrator Brittany Presley has a lovey charming voice. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a charming knitting mystery. I can’t wait to listen to her next book, and of course knit!!!

Not for knitters

If you aren’t a knitter, then you might enjoy this book. The plot isn’t bad and the characters are not bad. But if you are a knitter - stay away from it! This books errors will be a source of annoyance and frustration.
If you know anything about knitting then the plot does not work, the motivation is absurd and the murder itself is impossible!
Wooden needles are never hollow, strangling someone with a skein of yarn would only work if you make them swallow it whole. A hank of acrylic might work, but not wool. And large size wooden knitting needles are not sharp at all. You would need to pound one in with a hammer like a stake to draw blood.
And this is just off the top of my head.
You can be a knitter from any country from Albania to Zimbabwe and do Nordic knitting. And publish books and be successful. We, knitters, don’t care where you were born. We only care what you knit.
And inlaid knitting needles wouldn’t work! The yarn would catch!
And the little town was way, way, way overdone!

Entertaining, fun and involving read

As a knitter/crocheter I truly enjoyed this story. Thoughts of having my own yarn shop made this especially dear to my heart. The story was well written and the performance wonderful. I look forward to future stories from Allie Pleiter.

not for me

On Skein of Death is a slow moving cozy mystery with what might be an entertaining plot. I however lost interest because it moved too slowly.
